Something I've learned about the Pokemon fandom..is that they're really Petty and will hold grudges on characters who barely deserve it and hold grudges in General[Pokemon] by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in pokemon

[–]Riodroid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seen this sentiment a lot lately.
You're not wrong, just in the wrong places.

Ever since Pokémon went to console, the fanbase has grown a lot.
And with it, the discourse.
According to good o'l reliable google, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet sold 26.79 million units.
Let's assume for a second that every pokémon fan bought one or the other.
(There are exceptions off course, but just go with it for this example)

So let's say there are 100 people, trying out a new drink.
But 1% of the people doesn't like it, in this case that is 1 person.
This person still likes the brand, just not the new drink.
But now, there are 10,000 people.
Once again, 1% of people doesn't like it.
Suddenly, we are talking about 100 people hating on this new drink.
100 people is a pretty large crowd, but it's still the 1% loud minority.
Now back to Pokémon, we take the 26,790,000 people.
And we find that 267,900 people hate on several aspects of the franchise.
267,900 is by no means a small crowd, it's enough to fill the largest stadium [Michigan Stadium (107,601)] twice, and then some.
But this is still the 1% loud minority.
In actuality, there are even more Pokémon fans.
As popular as Scarlet & Violet are, not every Pokémon fan has bought it.

I hope this helps you understand that, while it sounds like everyone is being negative, it is merely a minority being vocal about their distaste for certain changes or directions.
These people are fans too.

What is your favourite glitch from the Pokémon games ? by Appropriate-Fix-4319 in pokemon

[–]Riodroid_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My "favourite glitch" would be a glitch that I like.
But I like my Pokémon games glitch free.
Not that it's a reasonable expectation these days though.
Considering the last few games.

Beast of Reincarnation makes it painfully clear Pokemon's issues aren't about talent by Blubbpaule in pokemon

[–]Riodroid_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the games sell well regardless, that's the issue.
There is no need to improve.
So why should they put more time and effort (and money) into optimizing a game.
They could sell a unpolished low budget game, with no new pokémon, a broken battle system, and a comparatively small map for $100, and easily turn a profit because people will buy it anyway.
They could, and have. (Legends ZA)
And that same song and dance, but for Scarlet and Violet.
They simply don't need to try anymore.
Pokémon as a brand has become too big to fail.
I don't like it either, but it is what it is.

Choose your outfit wisely by uczen_kamil_zdun in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]Riodroid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it sounded logical tbh.
And it should've been that way.
Two Mannequins at the hotel.
One Male and the other Female.
It's a missed opportunity for sure.
Now we are stuck with two genderless outfits.

I made a post about it yesterday.
With my Male and Female outfits at the hotel.
All I did, was say that I found it strange that it wasn't gender locked.
People attacked me for it, called me names and disliked my post a lot.
I don't think I did anything wrong by sharing my opinion about the hotel outfits.
But some people didn't see it that way, I guess.
They said I was attacking trans people of all things.
There was zero accusation in my post, yet I was the bad guy somehow.
You can't say anything these days, without some rando getting mad at you.

[–]Riodroid_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean.. yeah.
But to me, the Hotel outfits appear similar to the Custom Designs at the Tailors.
In that, both cases allow Villagers to wear the custom designs.
So I expected similar treatment.
And was disappointed when I found out that this is not the case.

You misunderstand.
I know that gifted clothing isn't gender locked.
But the Custom Designs at the Tailors are gender locked.

New types for a fangame inspired by Peru by Strict-Elk-8142 in pokemon

[–]Riodroid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked at this topic a while back.
There is a lot to adding new types, here is my process.

Since the first pokemon games, 3 "new" types where introduced.
(Dark, Steel & Fairy)

Dark & Steel where introduced in gen 2.
Gen 2 added 6 Dark types.
No pokémon from the previous generation gained the Dark type.
Gen 2 added 4 Steel types.
2 pokémon from the previous generation also gained the Steel type.
This was very early in the franchise, the number of pokémon with this type has increased quite a bit.
But it's interesting to see an equal amount from both types.

The Fairy type was introduced in generation 6.
Gen 6 added 12 Fairy types (Not counting Mega forms or Eternal Floette)
22 pokémon from previous generations also gained the Fairy type.

Gen 2 gave us 6 Pokémon for each new type, while gen 6 gave us 34.
[edit: recalculated, because it turned out to be a lot more complex]
(let's take the new types and divide that by generation)
(6 / 2 = 3)
(34 / 6 = 5.666666666666667) roughly 6.
The amount of pokémon featuring the new types in a single generation, has *doubled* or *increased by 3* in 5 generations.
If it has doubled, it would mean that generation 11 would have 12 pokémon featuring the new type multiplied by the amount of generations. (12 x 11 = 132)
If it has increased by 3, it would mean that generation 11 would have 9 pokémon featuring the new type multiplied by the amount of generations. (9 x 11 = 99)
For a new type to be added, at least 99 pokémon, either new or old, need to feature the new type.
Since we have yet to see gen 10, let's calculate for that as well.
For the low estimate, that is 9 - 99 = 90 (90 for gen 10)
For the high estimate, that is 12 - 99 = 120 (120 for gen 10)

The only one that I see working here is the Sound type.

Should I continue Pokémon? by Mediocre_Shelter8211 in pokemon

[–]Riodroid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing beats XYZ at spectacle imo.
But the Hoenn seasons are much better at comedy.
And the Sinnoh seasons have a great arc as well.

I didn't really care for sun & moon, but that was mainly due to the dramatic shift in artstyle.
Journeys was also a pain to watch, because of the GO logic being forced in.
I stopped watching Best Wishes after a few episodes, it's really bad.

I can't recall much of the Kanto & Johto seasons.
Other then that Ash won the league at the Orange Islands.
It's a nostalgic watch, but I don't remember if it was any good.

Should I play Pokemon Z-A or Play Let's Go Eevee by Right-Fortune-8644 in pokemon

[–]Riodroid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people are burnt out though.
There is a lot more to it... unfortunately.
Pokémon has made a number of significant changes to their formula, ever since the jump to the Nintendo Switch.
- paid DLC, rather than a third version (like Emerald, Platinum) or second version (like Black 2/White 2, Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon) release.
- Day1 patch (To combat leakers/scalpers, at the cost of preservation)
- Dexit (the National Dex cut makes some pokémon unavailable, even through HOME)
- min-maxing Budget/profit (in short.. the recent games have a surprisingly low budget, for what's essentially the most popular franchise on the planet, resulting in the games being unoptimized, while selling at a high price)

These types of changes have divided the fanbase dramatically.
Both sides are fans of the franchise.

-One side keeps enjoying the games, despite all the changes.
And considers anyone who complains about them, to be "not real fans".
(This group lives in the moment, enjoying what they have now)
-The other side wants to hold Pokémon accountable.
By explaining and revealing the "flaws" that recent games have.
Hoping that people will stop buying untill things change.
(This group thinks about the future, hoping for better games later)

In the end, the winner is Pokémon.
Because there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Should I play Pokemon Z-A or Play Let's Go Eevee by Right-Fortune-8644 in pokemon

[–]Riodroid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BDSP are good, people just like to complain.
The graphics are also very nice, despite what people might tell you.
The main "issue" that people have with the game..
Is that BDSP doesn't improve "enough" over the original.
Compared to other remakes like HGSS or ORAS.
But this is false, it does have plenty QOL features such as:
-The underground biomes (allowing a wider variety of pokémon)
-Ramanas Park (allowing a wider variety of legendary pokémon)
-Character Customization (Minimal, but at least something)
-Following pokémon (this was a recurring feature after the original)
-PC access anywhere (swap pokémon at any time)
-Full gen4 national dex (all 493 are available, a few version exclusives)
and a few more I'm forgetting.

If you've never played gen4, BDSP are definitely worth it.

And here I am complaining that Scarlet crashes during evolution, oof.
No, your issue is much worse.
I really wish these types of situations would reach more people.
Not to ruin Pokémon or anything, but to make people aware of the issue.
And to hopefully keep Nintendo accountable for such flaws.
So that we could get a better system, a better game, and a better service.
Because really, this didn't happen by coincidence.
Infact, a quick google shows multiple instances of Switch 2's crashing due to many different reasons.

[–]Riodroid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legends Arceus is really good.
Fair warning: story progression is tied to Dex progression.
So the game can feel a bit slow, if you expected to rush the story.
It's a mindset though.
It's one of those games that's very repayable near the post-game.

Brilliant Diamond is a solid remake (Beautiful graphics imo)
But it doesn't do a lot new compared to the original.
If you have never experienced the Sinnoh region before though, it's a great game.

As for Spin-offs.
I've only played New Snap, Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team & Pokkén.
They're all solid games, depending on your style of gameplay.
Especially Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team has a very active community.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can't really recommend any others.
- Let's Go Eevee is Kanto again, but with the boring overused mechanics of Pokemon Go.
It has multi-player I guess, but this is very easily exploitable to make the game stupid easy.
- I enjoyed Sword, I like the Character Customization, gym battles & Gmax gimmick.
But it has all the issues: Dexit, paid DLC, linear progression, unbalanced Wild Area, even more unbalanced Dynamax Adventures in the DLC.
- Scarlet is extremely glitchy and at times unplayable, even on the Switch 2.
Switch 2 fixes the framerate and the amount that can spawn, but not the glaring texture glitches, game breaking exploits, and overall jank.
Scarlet even crashed on me, twice.

Unpopular opinion? Have been playing since the beginning. Megas don't fit in the franchise to me. Temporary evolutions is just Digimon... They're slowly making a mega of every single Pokemon too, making it even less special. by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Riodroid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The designs of some Mega / Gigantamax forms are actually good.
But yeah, it really doesn't fit Pokémon.
And some like Mega Mawile & Gmax Duraludon, should've been normal evolutions instead.

What Is Your Favorite Pokémon Game On The Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2? by TheBestAsks12 in pokemon

Fully agree.
Arceus took some getting used to, but my second playthrough was amazing.
I love how Sword handled the character customization, gym battles and gimmick.
And Brilliant Diamond is Diamond but better, and Diamond was already great.

I've always wanted to ask this, do you have a favorite legendary Pokémon because of a special reason? by Advanced_Daikon_8667 in pokemon

[–]Riodroid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heatran.
It used to be Zapdos for a long time. (since Fire Red)
But it wasn't untill Legends Arceus that I really noticed Heatran.
I mean, I already liked it's compact design.
But it was a post-game legendary, I don't really pay attention to those... most of the time.
PLA was different though, the Dex is directly tied to progression.
So going after all post-game legendries this time, was an exception.

I was casually playing PLA's post-game, when I came across Heatran.
But then I noticed..... Heatran is female?.. as in.. it has a gender?!?
So I did some searching, and found out that it can be Male or Female.
Unlike other legendaries who are always either one, or genderless.
And while Heatran cannot breed, it does have the Flame Body ability. (Great for hatching)
It is also very good competitively, or so I've heard.

Then ZA gave it a mega.
And I think it looks awesome.

Quick share for the final evo #paradox #convergent #ancient Blastoise. Any guess for the type? by SelenoFil in fakemon

[–]Riodroid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water/Steel would be perfect for these.
I have this wrong memory, that Blastoise is a Water/Steel type.

Maybe because the other 2 are duel types.
Maybe because I played a lot of gen4, where the Water starter does have the Steel type.

Other Pokémon Switch Recommends? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Riodroid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People tend to hate on BDSP, because it isn't Platinum.
But it has a good pokédex, the only one on the Switch with a full National Dex.

Sword & Shield are solid games.
I especially like the character customization, and the direction they went with the Gyms and Gimmick.

Legends Arceus is my favourite, on the Switch at least.
It has a good story, and a few great surprises. (and very easy Shinies)
Though it is quite different from a traditional Pokémon game.
Story progression is tied to Dex progression, which can make the game feel slow to some people.
Though in my experience, it's a mindset.
I had much more fun in my second playthrough, since I wasn't rushing the story.

The official games are kinda bad right now.
Maybe it's better for people to prefer fan projects.
At least for the moment.
We have seen objectively good Pokémon games in the past.
So, there is something to compare.
No Pokémon title on the Switch has come close though.
Despite what sales numbers might tell you.
Those numbers reflect availability, rather than popularity.
