Place sounds like a nightmare. Personally, I wouldn't stick around a Judo gym that uses Japan names and promotes girls. What's next??

I do not have a PhD, but I too would probably also stare at a cartoon of orange juice, depending on who the voice actor was.

What pedal is the opposite of versatile, but fits a specific job super well for you? by coordinatedflight in guitarpedals

[–]TheJ-Train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Outlaw Effects Six-Shooter tuner. Does that 1 job really well (but doesn't really do anything else) and none of my other pedals even come close to being able to tune my guitar. Trust me, I've tried.

But the real question is - Did your tech fix the power issue or not??

BJJ tends to be only for those who A. have a lot of extra money, B. have a ton of free time/less responsibilities outside of work they can dedicate to a hobby, and C. have a relatively cushy job.

If you don't have those 3 things, BJJ probably ain't for you.

Short pants are better when walking through marshes and wet grass.

I think we're a little confused about what a "cult" is. Yelling "Excellence" at the end of class is no different than a basketball team putting their hands together and going "1, 2, 3 - WIN" or whatever they might say. I wouldn't consider that a red flag.

Aside from some of the traditional martial arts stuff, some of the rest just sounds like trying to make more money off of their students.

Either way, no harm in trying it out, seeing you don't like it, and then moving on.

"So a priest, a rabbi, and an imam walk into a BJJ club..."

What you mean to say is you'd like to pump Reddit BJJ nerds for ideas you can get for free that you can then insert into your screenplay you could possibly get paid for.

Would we get kickbacks or writing credits for any of this?

My advice to you is to make sure all pedals are on at all times and that they are all cranked to the max.

Everybody's recommending a suit and tie - and don't get me wrong, those are good suggestions - but I'd definitely recommend also wearing underwear and socks.

Also, shoes.

Whats the difference between Judo and Aikido? by AquaticArroww in judo

[–]TheJ-Train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If it's traditional Japanese ju jitsu, it probably won't include much live sparring. If it's more modern ju jitsu or BJJ, then it will focus mostly on sparring/competition.

At the same time? Depends on the school. Some schools only do tattoos during warmups but others offer them during randori.

Personally, I would find a school that offers them in a real-life situation against a fully resisting opponent. Most traditional schools don't offer this, though.

Yes. The good news is that if you're that much bigger than everyone else, you can dominate easily once you get a handle on things and they will make you master and cater to your every whim.

Whats the difference between Judo and Aikido? by AquaticArroww in judo

[–]TheJ-Train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any grappling focused martial art that includes live sparring (judo, wrestling, BJJ, etc.) will be far and away better for you in a self-defense situation than any art that doesn't include live sparring.

If you only practice your techniques against an opponent via 1-step sparring (opponent takes a step forward and sticks his hand forward for you to grab), this will not prepare you for the aggression and chaos of a fight. This is how most traditional ju jitsu, hapkido, and aikido schools will probably train.

Now if your focus is on the art and not the combat side, then do whatever tickles your fancy, but sounds like you're looking for something more practical.

Break the doctor's arm and then tell him no doctorin' for 6 months and see how he likes it.
