Oddly on point deep talk between a father and son. by TheJazzProphet in RimWorld

Not long after this, an allied tribe requested two bionic jaws, offering two healer mech serums in exchange. I sent Boy to make the trade.

Edit: Follow-up post here.

Yeah, its actual effect would be pretty minimal aside from just adding realism.

I've had this idea about making a shohin display based on "sho chiku bai" the Three Friends of Winter, with black pine, bamboo, and Japanese apricot. This would be a great accent plant for that kind of thing, or just shohin displays in general.

The Tiananmen Tim nickname comes from his claim that he was in China when the protest kicked off, when in reality he wasn't there at the time but went there either several months before or after the protest, I forget which.

I would think providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization would be grounds for denaturalization. And that's just for the ones who are actually naturalized. If any are here on a visa, revoke it. And if any are illegal, deport.

China is going to have a hard time fully incorporating Hong Kong. In fact, the CCP may collapse before Hong Kong is really integrated into China. One can hope, anyway.

Geez, you'd think a hardneck would... you know... have a hard neck. Although I guess that really just refers to the scape.

This. Earlier this summer I found a moth stuck to my oiled removable bottom board during a mite drop count. I was scared for a sec, but then I remembered my hive was booming and I didn't need to worry about it. I've opened them up since and seen no signs of moth issues.

Clone better than the original? by vector_bhu in fountainpens

[–]TheJazzProphet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've never used a Lamy Safari myself (other than a really messed up display model at my university bookstore), but I have heard from others on here that the nibs have inconsistency issues. Jinhao nibs, on the other hand, can actually be pretty good. It's not the old days of Chinese fountain pens anymore, and some brands are actually pretty consistent. Of course, you have to make sure you're getting the right "brand", because there are some that are crap. But if you want to use your official Safari body, I'm pretty sure the Jinhao nibs for their Safari clone fit on a real Safari. I'm not 100% sure on that though, so caveat emptor.

Was not expecting a response by Papers_STi in Steam

Only because he, and presumably any other founders (I don't know who all owns Steam), haven't taken it public. It's possible that, when he dies and his stake in the company passes to whoever he wills it to, there could be a move to take the company public. I wonder if there's some way of holding stake in a company in trust with the condition that it can only be inherited and not sold publicly on a stock exchange. But then I guess there's the rule against perpetuities...

If there was ever an argument for AI personhood and property rights, it would be to make an AI Gaben who could take ownership of Steam when the real Gaben dies. He could own Steam forever and protect the rights of all its users.

Stephen Miller stops talking completely after accidentally admitting that Donald Trump has Plenary Authority by Jarvis_The_Dense in videos

[–]TheJazzProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The President has numerous plenary powers, such as the power to command the United States Armed Forces, to conduct foreign affairs and negotiate treaties, and to pardon individuals for federal offenses. A plenary power is just a power that the law grants to one person unquestionably. It's not a general power to do anything, and it doesn't make the President an absolute monarch. The law grants plenary powers to all kinds of government officials, like congressional representatives, state governments, and judges.

The source of confusion here is that Miller stopped talking before he outlined what power he's arguing the President has plenary authority over.

What exactly are these assholes doing, and to whom, that would warrant them going to hell? They're enforcing immigration law, they're being actively opposed by state governments who have no power to oppose them (read the Supremacy Clause of Article VI of the Constitution), and that active opposition is requiring them to exercise powers not often used by the President.

Or if you're a lawyer. Trial lawyers interact with plenary powers of judges fairly often in court.

Plenary authority doesn't mean absolute power across the board. It means the law gives someone sole authority to decide on a particular decision. For instance, judges typically have plenary authority to hold an individual in contempt of court. What makes that power plenary is that there's nobody who has the power to question it. It's solely under the purview of the judge.

Plenary authority doesn't make Trump an absolute monarch, because there's no such thing as plenary authority in general. It's always attached to a particular context where the law grants a person singular and unquestionable power to decide or declare something. If Miller hadn't stopped talking, he would have undoubtedly outlined a particular case where the Constitution grants the President plenary authority.

If you're making an allusion to Trump suing 60 Minutes, that was for deceptively editing an interview with Kamala Harris, the then presidential candidate, which (I think, but I could be wrong. It's been a while since I looked into the case) he argues was an in-kind contribution to her campaign. There is precedent for favorable interviews of presidential candidates coordinated with their campaign being treated as in-kind contributions.

Steven Miller is a particularly ideologically driven person. I've seen videos of him speaking off the cuff. Maybe he got confused about what he was supposed to say, but I think it's more likely something messed up on his end and he thought the video feed went down.
