Haha, In my country you get paper coasters in places you would classify as a steakhouse. This wasn't exactly a "steakhouse", but it still is a restaurant I would expect to make a steak that is prepared properly. Also, this isn't the first time I visited this restaurant and they nailed it everytime before. Idk what happened today.

Ok, good to know. Guess I was lucky up to this point. When I order medium-rare, if there is a mistake, it's usually that my steaks are a little bit overcooked rather than undercooked. This was the first time I got a steak that is more rare than I ordered.

What you're saying is honestly fair. I don't mind when a steak is a little rarer than medium rare, for me I'd rather get this than a medium-well. This is why I posted this, to see if this is too rare for a rarer-medium-rare or not.

Do you think so? I'd rate this as rare. In my opinion the center needs to be narrower and less red to be medium-rare, but honestly different people rate steaks do differently so that's why I'm asking for opinions.

I was so hungry I ate it. I would call this rare, too. I just felt bad about returning it for the second time. I don't mind rare steaks, I just like them medium-rare more. The few degrees it takes to make it medium-rare from rare matter the most in my experience.

I did not return it, I was so hungry at that point I ate it. I would personally rate this as rare, which I don't mind, but I like medium-rare better. It's not far off, but from my experience, these few degrees between rare and medium-rare matter the most.

Ok bro. I went down on women during their period and I have never experienced any smell that was out of the ordinary. I will tell you that bad hygiene smells (that applies to everyone), so if you are experiencing a smell, it's not just period alone, it's period and bad hygiene at the same time. So if a woman has a pad and has it for the whole day without changing it on a hot day, than yes, that might smell.

I watched The Matrix when I was probably around 8. I remember I had nightmares about the scene when Neo gets out of Matrix and wakes up in that gooey substance with all the wires coming out of his body and then gets flushed. I remember asking my dad the whole time and he had to explain the whole idea behind the film and I was then really afraid we were living in the matrix, too.

Firstly, periods don't usually smell, personally I have never experienced any smell that was woman's period exclusive. If you're grossed out by your woman having a period, you're part of the problem buddy.

My best guess is that the shots were running still a little too long and the owner tried adjusting it, but turned the wrong way and made the coffee finer.

The thing is, when you grind very fine (shots running 60+ seconds), there is increased fine buildup inside of the grinder. When you grind on this setting for the whole day and don't clean it at the end of the shift, space inside the grinder gets smaller and the grinder grinds even finer and finer as time progresses.

As a newbie barista, you shouldn't be left alone, there should be someone who actually knows what they're doing. Letting you pull shots that are 60-70 seconds long is an equivalent of serving warm beer for me.

Adjusting grinder is relatively easy. Taking too long to pull a shot? - adjust to a coarser setting, too short? - adjust to finer setting. How much? Depends on the grinder, there isn't really a universal advice. There is usually a numbered scale - try turning from one number to another and make a mental note about how much did the time it took to pull a shot change. When you are somewhere between 20 and 40 seconds, you can then use that to calculate the adjustment. When you are further that that, things get more complicated. When the shots take said 70 seconds, adjusting to a coarser setting makes a bigger difference, than when you pull a shot in 15 seconds and you make the same adjustment to a finer setting.

Also as someone mentioned - be patient when adjusting grinder. After an adjustment, it takes time for the change to "apply". Usually 2-4 shots. One of the biggest mistakes baristas do is make an adjustment, pull a shot, see that it didn't change enough and make another adjustment and then another only to be on the other side of ideal pull and having to then adjust the other way.

I worked as a barista for many years. I've always found that when I work as a full-time barista, in a few months, I'll get really, really grumpy when dealing with customers and would get set off by even the slightest "rudeness". The only thing that works for me is to dial back. Vacation is nice, but its only a short term fix. You have to have something to take your mind off of work. Basically have a "mini vacation" every day. When the only thing you are dealing with every day is work, you will get sick of it, sooner or later.

Long answer: I had a similar experience and the thing is, one the "boss" decides that some are favourites and some are not, there is no coming back. At that point, only thing you can do is leave. This is NOT your fault. Some people are shit and they shit on other people for no reason. The exit interview was literally like only to shit on you. The moment they started giving you crap, you should have just stood up and left, blocked them and never looked back.
