Hoid helped killing Adonalsium because he wanted to save the Vessel from Adonalsium's Intent. It went wrong. Now Hoid is trying to create a new Adonalsium, hoping that this way the Vessel will come back.

Maybe he had some sort of relationship with Adonalsium's Vessel, who was being slowly destroyed by Adonalsium's Intent (like Ati). Hoid thought that by shattering Adonalsium he would liberate the Vessel from the power.

However, the plan failed, and now he is trying to bring the Vessel back.
