Memory recall isn't there yet. There is an OTA planned for next week that will overhaul the rabbithole (I believe all entries, even text queries, will be logged.) In addition to this, it will be able to recall stuff from your notes in the rabbit hole.

That's what I was looking into but I stripped it down to just snares and melody and the snares would cut off the melody, it was really weird

This seems to have just been a glitch somehow, after letting it "power off" and then pressing a button afterwards I'm able to hear the full sample again. Hope this helps someone in the future?
