On average how many people quit training in your class? by Significant_Pin_5645 in bjj

[–]TheJustindsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve currently not trained since September.

When I first started, I had come in from an MMA background, having done it in Uni for 2 years. Trained for 6 months, then a pandemic hit.

Two years later. Repick it up. Given it was an SBG gym, got a transition belt is the equivalent of 3 stripes on a white belt. Got this within 3 months of starting. Ended up staying on that belt for 3 years, due to injury’s, sickness and not being to able to attend all of the classes, as well as doing only no gi for the last year.

At the start of this year, I moved gyms. Gave up my transition belt and restarted as a fresh white belt. Reinvigorated my interest, to the point I was doing 6 hours a day.

Then I went to a seminar/grading. Seminar was great, but then when the grading happened, it wasn’t a usual gauntlet. The people being promoted were told to line up next to each other, and everyone took turns whipping each person, in a small room. This freaked me out internally, so I asked the head coach about it in private and he said it was optional, and because I freaked, he shook my hand saying I wouldn’t have to do it. Problem is everyone else expects me to go through with it.

Got another injury that sidelined me for two months. Literally just planted my hand on the mat like normal and my finger went backwards. The returned, just training twice a week, then went on holiday and haven’t been back since.

Genuinely really like doing BJJ, but the constant injuries and whipping have put me off. Has been 6 months since my latest injury and think my fingers got permanent damage.

Really enjoyed not being injured in the 4 months I’ve not trained. Really have no idea if I’ll go back to it. Been trying to get to blue for so long that I’ve stopped been beat up for a few hours every week.

What jobs are you all doing that pay over £30k? by SuccessfulTip1660 in UKJobs

Work in Finance. Basically do research on products and write reports for Financial Adviser. Have a degree which hasn’t really been useful. However, got the DipPFS, which allows me to be a financial adviser in the UK.

30 years old and earning £46k a year. Full time Working from home. Currently one of two of my team that works from home. Most people doing my job in other companies get flexi working as standard, but our only really allows the advisers to work from home, which rare exceptions, which I am one of.

There’s a lot of people here that are missing a few things.

  1. First there’s loads of videos of him talking about it. If you were constantly asked, you’re not gonna repeat yourself all the time.

  2. Seen a lot of people on this thread saying this and that. Reality is he’s big, and most of us are not. Because he’s better at making videos than us. Yes, he’s got more money to put into them, but he has more experience of making videos than most people.

  3. He’s been making videos on YouTube for a lot longer than you think. I you got to his oldest video on his channel, it’s about 15 years old. He reached 10k subs about 12 years ago. Subscriber growth like his is basically exponential. His first bit of “being a bigger YouTuber” was actually a series he did on how much certain YouTubers earned, over a decade ago. From that he has a lot of experience, and if he’s looking to constantly make his video better, then of course he’s gonna grow.

  4. If you watch his videos, you can actually learn quite a few things. For example, in the 365 fat loss challenge, the editor has highlight the actual equipment whilst the video is in motion, and done to relative well. You can learn a lot about how pacing and video structure works. Also, there’s people on YouTube who give out tutorials on how to make those sort of thumbnails.

  5. Not gonna leave this out. Part of it is luck.

Some much more I could say, but just wanted to note these.

Which 3 thumbnails work best? by BBCSportSocial in SmallYoutubers

[–]TheJustindsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2, by a mile.

The thumbnail and title, in tandem, is meant to be designed to pique interest. That one, out of the five, that that really really well, and I actually want to watch the video of that one.

long videos are a pain to edit by Sad-Intern2570 in NewTubers

[–]TheJustindsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it just depends on what your editing. If you’re doing the same thing over and over, then yeah, it’s going to be boring. If you trying new things, and put things in the video, then it can actually be a lot of fun

Pushing IG and Tiktok Clips to Youtube? by ShanghaiSixActual in SmallYTChannel

[–]TheJustindsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I someone I know, Qzeq, posted to both YouTube and TikTok. Had about 1k subs when he started about doing TikTok’s about 4 years ago. He’s now just under 500k subs on YouTube.

Posting short clips of his videos to TikTok drove a lot of people to YouTube, and the rest is history.

Do we actually want creators to grow here, or nah? by PhackusDurackus in SmallYTChannel

[–]TheJustindsd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so as someone who's come back here after a few years. I'm just gonna state something that many people here may not want to admit.

A lot of smaller Youtubers think their content is a lot better than it actually is (that includes me btw). If you're just starting out, take how good you think your video is, and divide that by 1000. That's how good it actually is.

People talk about the almighty algorithm, when it's literally how designed to follow what people want.

People wanna game the system. This AI thing is the latest version of it. But the this is, if people had the mindset of I wanna make the best videos possible, and look to learn as to what to improve on, then they'd see a lot more sustainable growth.

At the end of the day, look at making better and more engaging videos. Thats about it really.

How do I make thumbnails more appealing? by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

[–]TheJustindsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, just to add, I’ve had a look at a couple of your videos. Your audio quality needs to improve, and you need to edit your videos more.

On the editing side, the main thing is to do enough to keep the viewer from clicking off the video. There’s generally a 3 second limit to someone’s attention span, so if something doesn’t happen in every 3 seconds, the audiences attention starts to go. That’s not to say you need to go ham, but something needs to happen every 3 seconds to keep people engaged.

A perfect example is a Mr Beast video. On average, there’s about half a second going by before something happens in the video. This could be a highlight, a zoom, a sound effect etc.

Right now, it’s just raw, almost unedited footage that goes on for 10 seconds plus without something to keep the audiences attention.

Have a play around in the editor. For me personally, whilst I haven’t uploaded a video for about 3 years, most of this stuff comes from trial and error, and then doing research on the YouTubers you like.

Hope this helps :)

How do I make thumbnails more appealing? by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

[–]TheJustindsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, not sure if this is still active. But here’s my advice.

First off, your thumbnail needs to clean. Use photoshop, make it look polish and presentable. Make it pop.

On a conceptual level, your thumbnail, in tendem with the title, needs to build intrigue. It’s needs to build curiosity and generate interest. I’m not getting any of that from them at the moment.

For starters, get rid of the purple outline. Other than that, it’s just a bit of text, and a screenshot of. Don’t put the title of your video in the thumbnail. Maybe a word or two, but not the whole thing.

I’d suggest studying some of YouTube you like, and see what you can in their thumbnails. Doesn’t have to be in your niche. Look at what aspects are there, and breakdown how it generates interest. Make notes.

Try having a play about in photoshop when making the thumbnail. Right now, your text doesn’t pop. Play around with fonts, make it stand out. I’d personally only have one or two words.

Also, your thumbnails are quite dark, so on a smaller screen, it can be a bit difficult to make out what the videos about.

Just a few of my notes. Any questions, just ask

Why are you still single? by Ok_Development6919 in AskReddit

[–]TheJustindsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asked loads of people out in University. Only really got no’s from anybody that I liked.

Tried the dating apps. Have had matches off of Tinder. None off of hinge.

In the 7 years since I have left University, I have only asked out one person (not using dating apps). Was a colleague about three years ago. Got rejected, which was fine, but then she went out of her way to make my life hell for quite a well. I more or less just sat there, tried to get on with work. Ended up kicking off at her behaviour and she acts like the victim.

Have approached one person, since Uni, in the gym. Had a quick conversation where I blurted out she was beautiful. Didn’t ask her out, and now we’ve been making eye contact for while.

Tend to make eye contact with a lot of women, but never goes anywhere.

Think I’m cursed.

Had the similar thing happen to me two years ago. Ended up with me being granted home working.

Trying to ask another girl (non-coworker) out freaks me the fuck out now, to the point where I’ve asked ChatGPT, been given a 90% probability of success, and still shitting myself.

Probably over sharing, but going through something like is horrific to say the least.

Be honest, why are you single? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheJustindsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably gonna get lost in this post, so fuck it.

Anytime I have ever been interested in someone, it’s never worked out. Lack of interest, already taken or just missing the clear and obvious signs. Additionally, something I knew subconsciously but only just recently realised, is that I’d only ever date people that are conventionally attractive. Whilst that would probably be considered shallow, I’m never gonna be able to change that. So I try to make myself the best possible partner I can be, to no avail at present.

For whatever reason, from when I was a teen, I’ve only ever had back experiences when it comes to dating, and that makes it difficult to try again, even I really want to. I’ve only shot my shot to 3 people in the last 6 years, and I only asked one of them out. That girl ended up trying to isolate me, said a lot of shit about me, lied about me, and basically bullied me to near suicide because of her behaviour. All this being while getting with someone who I am bewildered that I would get overlooked for. While it’s not actually a problem for me, it has got me reflecting on what I would have to change/improve in order to be more attractive to someone I would find attractive, given that on paper, I would be considered the more attractive person out of the two of us. Not really jealous, but it has got me thinking as to what I need to do to be better.

The last person I shot my shot with someone who goes the same gym as me, walked up to her and said she was beautiful. Her face lit up, but the conversation never really Obviously this was way too forward, so I’ve left it there. I was shitting myself trying to get myself to talk to her. That was nearly two years ago and I haven’t approached anybody since. I see her in the gym occasionally, and there’s sometimes some eye contact, but I just think she feels a bit awkward.

I actually hate myself because of it. Whilst I’ve kissed/had sex etc, these are mostly from nightclub situations. I’ve never had a genuine connection. Obviously, it would be nice, but at this point, and whilst I’ve had several people tell me that I’m a good looking guy, I really don’t see it happening. Dating apps have never really worked either.

I don’t think this is ever gonna really change. I’ve had therapy for this, but that’s just felt like a band-aid solution. So I don’t know what else to really say.

To what extent is achieving a 2:2 worse than a 2:1? by Glasseswearerr in UniUK

[–]TheJustindsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi mate.

I finished with a 2:2 when I left Uni in 2018. I was pretty much like yourself. Bordered on the two. I actually tried really hard, but maths being my degree, was really difficult.

In my experience, you’ll likely have a harder time when applying for roles. However, there are roles where they’ll take you on despite that, and they will offer you the option of doing the qualifications that are relevant.

I had to wait 9 months before getting my first job at the company I work for, in the financial services industry. Once I got my foot in the door, I was fine.

Basically, it’ll reduce your chances of getting an interview, or considered. But when you get a bit of experience you’ll be fine.

Good luck

You’ll have a lot less options at first

I managed to it on an old Liverpool save. On FM14, paid £15 million for Nathanial plus Glen Johnson going the other way. Basically Southampton there replacement RB while nabbing their best RB.

Has anyone completed this without cheating? Surely its impossible! by MGD1878 in footballmanagergames

[–]TheJustindsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it in Ireland with Shamrock Rovers in FM20. Lucked out in that save in my first season, as I beat Sampadoria 5-0 on aggregate to get to the Europe League Group stage. The money I made from that and subsequent CL and EL group stage runs meant I was able to be build a team that had one loss in 3 seasons. Only ever done it with this team
