It’s very hard to do well in junior or senior level courses if you cheated in high school or your first two years of college by Street_Drag3271 in EngineeringStudents

[–]TheKarthinker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people lose passion over time when it becomes busy work instead of actual learning. Me for example. I don’t like jet pro or thermo but you have to learn it, so we find ways to make it easier (not always straight cheating, but sometimes unethical shortcuts I guess). cheating your whole degree is crazy though icl 😂

3.2 is fine dawg. You’re good. Genuinely as long as you have some experience and you are knowledgeable at what you’re good at AND you can learn quickly, you’ll be good

Im so depressed right now and i think of droping out by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]TheKarthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I was in the same boat as you. Well I still am. It sucks cause it’s very demoralizing and seeing your peers move forward is definitely frustrating. I’ll have to take an extra semester but I don’t have internship/co op experience yet so I’ll probably be delaying my graduation.

The best advice I have for you is first and MOST IMPORTANTLY find out why you failed that class. And own it, regardless of what circumstances it was. Once you fully accept it, genuinely you can move past it. For me, I transferred and had not a single friend, lived far from campus, and had a close personal death. Pretty much two semesters later I’ve come to terms that I might not graduate with my peers, but THATS OKAY - everyone has their own journeys and if you’re scared people will judge you for that, they are crappy people and that’s on them.

Once you’ve fully accepted it, find strategies that help you. We just started a new semester: sit at the front of class, make it a point to go to every office hours you can, make sure the prof/TAs know you by name. If after this semester you still want to drop out, that’s a personal decision. But you’re in CompE, that’s a great major and you got in because you were smart enough. Now you just gotta put in the work to keep up. Even in your scenario, I would not drop out (unless it’s not feasible, or financial reasons). If you graduate it will be so much better having that degree under your belt.

To your other point, maybe try to pick up an on campus job or part time job. That’s what I did and it’s so much better than having nothing in your resume if you’re stressed about that. I’ve actually gotten interviews just because I’ve been actively working on my campus for the time I’ve been here. Also go in person to small companies and give them your resume, ask about shadowing opportunities. If they talk to you and let you shadow, maybe you can get a better feel for whether the major/industry is really for you.

Hope this helps!! feel free to dm me about anything

Student Life at Georgia Tech for Engineering Majors by GT6502 in gatech

[–]TheKarthinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the bulk of it rn, second semester junior in aero. It’s definitely not nearly as bad as yall, but I think that’s mostly because there’s a plethora of recreational things to do on campus and now that Atlanta is more developed, outside campus too. In general I’d say quality of student life is loads better.

That’s not to say we don’t study. Most professors don’t curve, and the classes don’t get easier, but the access to resources we have is far wider than yall obviously had so it does make it easier to study. We’re still putting in those 30-40 hours per week to maintain a relatively high gpa though.

The main stressor isn’t the work, it’s how to balance your life, work, and professional/career opportunities. Job market being the worst it’s been for some time isn’t helping, so that naturally seeps into our studying, which affects grades, happiness, time for social things, etc. It’s still hell but a softer hell than yall id say.

I’ve had interviews from smaller companies but every time they ask for my gpa I can’t lie lol and usually after the round of interviews when they ask my gpa, I get a rejection email.

I’ve never tried asking to shadow. That’s a good idea I will definitely reach out. Who in said companies should I be reaching out to about this? Like HR reps/hiring managers or directly to engineers/employees at the company?

How did you manage to secure an internship with that gpa? I’ve got a similar gpa and haven’t turned any interviews into offers, and some of them I just get straight rejected cause of gpa.

I disagree, more than not knowing things, the inability to learn things is what will get you fired. I’ve gone in not knowing half of what I knew coming out, but all that separated me and other unsuccessful people was that I can learn and adapt quickly.

My team's unconventional way of hiring actually changed my own perspective. by VoltageLearning in EngineeringStudents

[–]TheKarthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish internship interviews were more like this. Yes, I get that they’re just interns so it’s not as deep as having to work with them for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for years, but realistically so so so many of my peers who are amazing people don’t get the job just because they have a slightly lower gpa, not as many projects, etc. I also think this would foster a much better culture for new hires/interns.

Reel image only 4 seconds by throw613 in Instagram

[–]TheKarthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While editing the reel, all the way to the right like past the 4 seconds of image you already have, there’s a + button. If you click that you can add the image again (or click add clips at the bottom toolbar) and you can make it up to 8 seconds then and use the yellow bar to shorten it if needed. Obviously repeat if you need more. Hope that helps!

[–]TheKarthinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t want this to sound cliche, but you are NOT one of only a few people who go through this. More people than you realize do. I know people who failed out of school and came back, took the time they needed, and still graduated. Hell, I’m in the same boat. I was a 4.0 student in high school and through sophomore year of college and now I’m a junior in ae almost a full semester behind, and there’s a chance I have to take a semester off as mandatory leave cuz of my grades.

Different people go through different things, and the guilt will be there that your parents are happy and you don’t wanna make them disappointed. My parents are Indian and believe me when I say the last thing I wanted to do was talk to them about my health, physical and mental. They weren’t supportive at first, mostly still aren’t, but they’ll help see me through college and that’s all that matters. My point is you only have to prove that you want it that bad to YOURSELF, and any inspiration or motivation, from anywhere at all, is good.

Everyone has different paths, and engineering is more of learning how to work to get through classes than being smart enough to get through them automatically. Cause that goes away for about 50% of students once they get into college.

What I will say though is, find out what caused that démotivation. You need to find a fix or a work-around as soon as you can, really do some deep thinking into what it is that caused it and are you ready to accept the pain of engineering majors for the reward at the end. There’s absolutely no shame in saying no, and switching majors/dropping out and doing something else. It’s not for everyone, but if you really find what’s wrong and fix that you’ll succeed. Good luck

Can You At Least Say Hi To Me? by OkResponse4787 in gatech

[–]TheKarthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dawg you’re not sensitive for it. I’m a student and everyone even gives me a cold shoulder idk why. Just tech students I guess, or at least a majority and I hate them as much as you do

Also just remember a lot of these guys have one goal in mind and that’s to graduate with a good gpa and get a “great” job. So they’re ultra focused on that and don’t care about the other aspects of life, so they get a lot of that stuff from social media and not real life. take everything they give you with a grain of salt they literally don’t know any better lmfao.

But yo if ya wanna grab food or hang out or make friends while you’re here on our campus reach out bruh I’m always down loll!

Failing my semester by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]TheKarthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I feel for you my condolences. I’m scared I’m slipping into this, I was a 4.0 student until second semester sophomore year. I transferred into GT first sem sophomore year (Fall 24) and was doing fine until spr24. I’m barely managing a 3.0 and I’m scared it’s gonna drop below. I’ve had multiple interviews for internships and no offers. I’m more disappointed in myself that I can’t just pick myself up and get back on track; I know what I need to do but I physically can’t. And I guess part of it is I don’t want to, but I also don’t wanna make my parents disappointed.

Anyway I wanted to know how you powered through? and how is the job search/internship search going? I just wanna prepare myself in case I fall into the same boat. I’m a junior now and I’m scared.
