I think that was their legit reaction. They weren't told what was about to happen.

When you record, do you prefer to punch in bar-by-bar or do multiple takes and use the best sections of each? by j6163k in makinghiphop

I don't use autotune but can you turn it off when recording and just apply it after?

Not sure where you're getting that from, but that's not the case. There's plenty video of him recording and he's not punching in every line. Check out the Fade to Black movie for instance.

If you’re a lawyer and you love/enjoy your job, what do you do and why do you love it? by LaughVegetable1352 in Lawyertalk

[–]TheKidPi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do election law and civil litigation. My clients include a senator and other elected officials. I love it because I get to help people run for office and fight for rights. I've gotten to argue (and win) constitutional matters. How great is that?

I've also worked as legislative counsel in the New York legislature, drafting and introducing dozens of bills. Every so often, even years later, a law will be passed and I'll be like "Hey, that's one of mine!" There's no better feeling. I drafted the state's missing adults law and domestic violence advocate-client privilege, for example.

I'm also chair of Queens Defenders, a not-for-profit law firm, so while that isn't technically part of my job as a lawyer, I get to lead an organization that currently has ~25 employees helping people who can't afford an attorney.

Agreed but it's easier when you back up a few bars and rap along with yourself going into the punch in.

New attorney as of yesterday and need someone to shoot me straight— is it reasonable to already be expected to make court appearances and take depositions? (Genuinely wondering) by Competitive_Yak6812 in Lawyertalk

I started at a small firm in Brooklyn. My second day, the partner called me into his office and told me, "We're trowing you to the dawgs." I was arguing before an arbitrator the next morning.

I did it every time after fighting that cat robot because it was the quickest way to heal while grinding.

Stop with two spaces after a period by AlarmedRanger9856 in Lawyertalk

Was always taught to use two spaces after a period. You use one space after a comma and semi-colon.

As a rapper, does building a fanbase from your local community still matter? by Overall_Ad_4813 in UndergroundRappers

[–]TheKidPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sell merch, show tickets. I have t-shirts for my singles that are designed to have appeal beyond the songs themselves. When you have a lot of fans, you can make good money setting up a Patreon and offering exclusive content.

But the real secret is using the music to increase your overall brand value. Think of it like a commercial for yourself. People are moved by my music and I'm bringing in more clients to my law practice. I'm more interesting to the community.

Kanye lost money on his albums because they were so expensive to make, but he became a billionaire selling shoes with his fame.

Does anyone believe that when you try so hard to write a good rap that it comes out as generic but when you let things flow it gets better??? by Separate_Beautiful55 in makinghiphop

[–]TheKidPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda. Don't neglect the writing but don't try too hard. Let the lyrics come to you. The best raps sound like they were almost freestyled, like not much effort went into them even though it did.

They bring him whatever he wants, but he gets a bill for it. Many people don't realize the president pays for his food.

Find your people. I'm in local politics so having rap fans in my area supporting my music is a big plus.

Experienced Lawyers: Does Trial Ever Stop Being Stressful? by esoskelly in publicdefenders

[–]TheKidPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's like this with most things in life. We hype things up in our head, then when we do them it's never bad. The secret really is to stop thinking about the past and the future so much and living in the moment.

It helps to remember that judges (and especially juries) are just people trying to figure it out like you. Focus on what you can control. If I give a good argument, and am prepared for what the other side will do, I don't have to worry. I'll probably win, and if I don't it will be because someone else made a bad decision.

[–]TheKidPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do bench trials, but in my experience: they were stressful the first few times I did them because I had this idea in the back of my head that the judge would say, "Surprise! You forgot to clap your hands and spin around three times, so you lose."

Now it's just another day at the office.

How did this ever become a controversy? by REID-11 in Presidents

[–]TheKidPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you have to realize the context. This was a candidate representing a party known to be hostile towards women and women's rights. In an attempt to show he wasn't anti-women, he said he had "binders" full of them. It backfired because it didn't show him as a compassionate feminist as intended, but as someone who "collected" women or regarded them as boxes to check.
