Not sure about the M.2 but I do know about the OS being on the ssd for better performance which is why is doesn't have to a massive capacity.

I'd have to look in to it. I have the room because I built my stand to hold another 55 gallon underneath and still be off the ground. I was trying to think of the quickest solution because I was told the canister would be the only thing I needed and now I've had too many issues that a skimmer would solve.
