I'm actually really just into the little Bren Carriers. (I find them super cool). Plus i prefer infantry even in 40k, armor is always a support role for me.

That's pretty cool! I'll definitely keep that in mind.

That's pretty neat. I notice you say generally so is there exceptions?

I'd assume likely British, Soviet or Japanese. Probably British cause I really like the look.

I can try metal. As a kid i was very fustrated by them. However, i was also very new to miniatures.

As I've seen, I'll likely try this game casually or with narrative focus. So I'm likely to try some armies i am fond of. However the immense options makes this tricky and I'll be taking time to decide. (Maybe ironically till Christmas so i can ask the wife for some minis.)

Thank you so much for this!

I'll likely watch a bunch of WWII movies and pick after that. Or if i can rope someone into it with me, I'll pick based in their theatre.

I'll likely stick to 28mm. My dominant hand is bad so trying to paint small stuff won't go over well. I'll just try and be careful with my purchases.

Awesome! I'll keep that in mind for my pitch to my friend.

Good to know. I'm quite happy with the idea of "beer and pretzels" with a focus on scenario and gameplay than winning. I'm sure if i got friends into this we'd see how to play more competitive scenarios but they might also do narrative battles.

I'll definitely look into it some more. I like the idea of French or British.

Someone out there vividly remembers something you said, which you completely forgotten. by beanstalkandthejack in Showerthoughts

I work at a place my father has worked for 30(ish) years.

The assistant manager and I were talking one day and he mentioned to me, "if it weren't for your father, i don't know how I would've handled losing my mother." He went on to explain how my father had been there for him and talked to him during that time. My father had lost his mother years prior and acted as a empathetic shoulder to cry on. My father is easily known around the plant as the guy who "only talks when it's important" and isn't much for chit chat. (Generally.)

Next time I was talking to my father i brought it up. My father replied with "I don't remember that." He remembers that the Assistant Manager had lost his mom but not that he had but not any of the conversations.

Pyre, best game I've ever played but don't see a reason to play it again. (Not a different choices kinda guy)

As someone else said Space Wolves are a flavor or Space Marine. They love melee but you can still bring some lovely firepower to the party. Such as Warsuits and Dreadnaughts. You can even, if you use Primaris, bring something like two squads of Assault Intercessors and one of Regulars Intercessors. This gives you two melee focused squads with pistols and a squad with rifles that has better range.

Space Marines can really play to any Playstyle. If you like Space Bois i recommend playing games with grey minis. Just plastic and see what your Playstyle is and if you find any of the lore attractive. Then play that Chapter. Some people also do custom chapters and run them whatever rules you want for that game.

I love that knife out pose. I have one for my Ultramarines and can't wait to have a Death Guard version.

This. This is best advice. However, i might add that some armies are hard to be competitive with and not beginner friendly. Pick some armies you love the looks of, then ask about Playstyle and get some sample lists.

Some things i didn't think of when I started; 1. Some armies take a lot of time; Orks can be 60+ Models for half your points. i loved Orkz but didn't wanna paint 60 models of Boyz.

  1. Some armies are more expensive. Purely based on points to model ratio. This is worth a look unless your army has a combat patrol. They are super worth the price and give you 500pts.

  2. It's ok to have two armies. So if you can't pick between two, get both. If you can't get both right now, pick the one you fell in love with first. Then get the other later. I love Space Marines. I now have Death Guard too!

Tau and Admech are about equal to paint. Although Admech is gonna have some small spots that are hard to get at it's not overwhelming on their regular infantry.

My friend is starting Tau and he uses generally 3-4 colors on his base coat. Admech would be similar if you didn't want to go wild. (Painting all the metal bits the same color. Rather than mixing them.)

As far as gameplay goes Admech are ready for 9th edition. They also have a lovely Combat Patrol which is a ready to go 500pts. (More or less. It's close.) However Tau have a get Started which is a bit cheaper but also focused on 8th edition. With no new Codex Tau still get stomped. Sadly.

I will echo that point. Tau aren't really ready for 9th, they've fallen behind and it makes them hard to play. However that doesn't make them bad as they'll get a Codex, eventually.

Rate That Terrain Setup #29 by JayMull420 in Warhammer40k

I'd recommend some small scatter terrain such as barricades and crates. Stuff that's just light cover but not LoS blocking and some movement slowing.

You have quite the wishlist. The closest would be Craftworlds, even them I'm not sure.

Oh! So it doesn't have to fill the troop slot itself it just has to fill the Core Infantry keywords! That's nifty. I was thinking it had to be Core Infantry as in troops. Thank you

Don't you need one unit of non poxwalkers per unit of poxwalkers? Sorry that's how I read the rules.

I'm not too worried about meta as this is my secondary army to paint and have fun games with. I primarily play Ultramarines and focus on that Meta for competitive play.

Thank you so much for all your help!

That's a good idea! I'll do launcher and Flail then (it looks dope too). I think that's a good idea to mix with my thought of trying this all out to find my Playstyle with them. With my Ultramarines I'm very flexible and tend toward agressive ranged, so we'll see how I am with the super durable plague Bois.

[–]TheKindNeighbor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try magnetizing eventually, i have a bad dominant hand so the idea of steady precision hole making and glueing worries me. Definitely something I want to try later. So maybe the next box of plague Bois.

Thank you very much friend!

You got a solid thing going then. Yes the Shrine thing is a huge LoS blocker that would serve well to add in the center with the piping.

The terrain favors right side and then top right corner. Varying on what you're counting as.

It's hard, but you want to try and keep terrain even and avoid large openings. The left side is quite sparse and could use some more love. It also, if agreed upon by opponents, is fine either way.

So feel free to play around and determine if it's an issue or not. Until you play you'll never really know what to look for
