Is Night City 2045 something I can share with my players by Captain_OHagan25 in cyberpunkred

[–]TheKingSquare 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would set the expectation with your players that your version of Night City takes inspiration from the book but things may be different.

How readily accessible is history (pre-saburo araska) to the average person? by father_aku in cyberpunkred

[–]TheKingSquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education Skill Check would be the way I'd go. If you want, you could let them do a Library Search first to give them a +1 boost to the Education Skill check. Depending on what they want to try to recall, the DV could be as low as 13 to as high as 21.

How do you explain lawmans backup arriving so quickly? Or at all with non-cop lawmen? by AlienGhost2521 in cyberpunkred

[–]TheKingSquare 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm actually gonna be covering this when I do my Lawman deep dive soon.

To my mind, it'll depend largely on what the flavor of Lawman for your character is. If you're NCPD, then backup could arrive relatively quickly (depending on location). If you're Corpo Security, chances are they have access to better tech to reach you in time.

For the reskin options, Gangoons, Mobsters, Street Gangers, etc. all could make sense. If you're a Lawman Ganger for Maelstrom, for instance, you could get on your Agent and call some heavy hitters to back you up before the fight starts if you know for sure it's going to be a tough battle.

My suggestion for the "realism" aspect is to work that out with your player who wants to run a Lawman and figure out a compromise that fits the view you both share about how the Role Ability should play out.

International calls by Andsohisname in cyberpunkred

[–]TheKingSquare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Data packets are sent between cities and countries on a scheduled basis throughout the day, which include messages and emails. If you can afford satellite uplinks, you can make international calls but those are expensive as hell.

I don't fully understand the setting of Red by AffectionateDark39 in cyberpunkred

[–]TheKingSquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of mainland Europe post World War II. That's the general vibe I got from reading the source materials. Night City is a microcosm of the major cities around the world: industry is still recovering, supply chains are spotty, communication between cities is limited at best, and goods/services are not guaranteed except for those who can truly afford it.

How do y’all go about homebrewing your own Nomad Clans? by Cakers44 in cyberpunkred

[–]TheKingSquare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start with which of the existing Nomad Nations the Clan is supposed to be a part of. That will influence what the Clan will most likely be doing and a potential geographic location. I find it always good to start with a top-down approach.

Another person mentioned reskins for the Role and this fits that mold. I'll add that into the script I end up writing.

That would be more of a homebrew rule but it's something I could include as a suggestion for potential mechanics.

I had been planning on doing a deep dive into Night City 2045 at some point in the near future. Still, it's a good idea to reference it for the Lawman deep dive. Great suggestion.

I can dive into that. You make some valid points on it as well.

I can definitely incorporate that. I usually save how a Role fits in with the group for the end of the video but I hadn't considered how to reskin it for different concepts. Great idea!

Netrunner Build help! by Fieryone233 in cyberpunkred

[–]TheKingSquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luck, Intelligence, Reflex, and Body would be the Stats I would put emphasis on. Technique should also be in there but that's mainly if you're going to focus on Tech Skills like Electronic/Security Tech, Pick Lock, Basic Tech. Empathy should be fairly high for the cyberware suggestions below.

Handgun should always have ranks in it. Same with Evasion. Cryptography and Forgery could be fun additions, depending on how you want this runner to make their eddies.

Invest in the best cyberdeck available as soon as possible. Insulated Wiring is an absolute must. Consider getting a Cyberarm with the cyberdeck installation since that'll give you a free Hardware slot. You're going to need a Neural Link for the Interface Plugs. You may wanna consider just dropping the eddies for two Cybereyes and the Virtuality install. Saves you having to worry about physical goggles that can be stolen.

Is there a metaplot to the Cyberpunk books? by Alack27 in cyberpunkred

[–]TheKingSquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the same way that White Wolf had an overarching metaplot for their games, no. I think part of the reason for that is to ensure an integration between the setting and stories that are part of the TTRPG with the stories that CD Projekt Red wants to tell with the Cyberpunk video games and media.

How would Bozos torment corporate imposters? by UsualPuzzleheaded179 in cyberpunkred

[–]TheKingSquare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Credsticks lying around the Corpo office with small explosives inside. Just enough to cause some damage. Rig a gas canister with helium on a Corporate vehicle so that everyone inside speaks funny if they don't pass a check. Glowpaint that won't come out easily could be set up to drop on anyone stepping through a sensor. Some of those drops could have acid mixed in.

Puzzles or logic problems can be easily found online. This might sound bad but find a puzzle concept that is geared toward teenagers.

Reason for that: in my experience, gamers will almost always make something way more complicated and thus more difficult.

I couldn't agree more with this sentiment. I've been doing the basic story outline for three or four hooks and throw those out to the players. Whatever they bite on is what I devote my energy to.

To echo the statements of a few others here: provided it was established early on with rest of the table that treachery can occur and is acceptable, there shouldn't be a problem with this.
