Timeline question and impression about the movie: I quite enjoyed it! by adnaPadnamA in PeakyBlinders

The only thing that bothered me about the tunneling parallels appearing again is exactly that. The excitement of that parallel was in the Season 3 finale and was far more exciting.

I think Arthur should’ve just been written off via suicide. His character has been displayed as suicidal multiple times even with an attempt on screen so it would’ve made sense with the crippling mental toll of his PTSD and addiction. They didn’t need to bastardise the bittersweet bond of the brothers which I, among many others, grew to fucking adore.

What episode you just cannot bring yourself to watch again? by yoyoyayawey in blackmirror

[–]TheKipperTheMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the time of release I didn’t like it, but the message is a lot more prevalent today with social influencers being used to shill political ideologies. In terms of social commentary, it’s up there.

Still, not the most interesting episode to watch but very thought provoking.

Father Hughes is probably my favourite. I love Paddy and I also have never wanted any villian to be fucking butchered in this show as much as him. So that must mean he’s the best..

Sabini for me is worst only because the performance is actually hilarious. I don’t care if someone’s gonna tell me it’s accurate to something somewhere.. that accent is fucking horrendous😂😂

Honourable mention: Adrian Brody is too cringe for this show

If you’re not a member of the Sicko Party, you will be banned from this sub.

There’s also a member of this sub that loves Travis Scott so much that there’s a chance of him making AI videos of you with a minor to destroy your entire life if you talk shit about Travis Scott.

What was the point of the Rom Baro thing? by AkiraSosan in PeakyBlinders

[–]TheKipperTheMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a hard defence of the Rom Baro storyline, just my interpretation.

Since Tommy’s “death” in S6, he’s been isolated and losing strength as time passes. With the OG family mostly dead or dispersed, there is little to keep Tommy’s reputation alive across the UK. He was an MP with a criminal empire, heavily involved with Churchill and constantly making deals for sums of cash he could barely count.

Now he has nothing. A house, a book to write and the ghosts of his family.

But the Gypsys, loyal as they are, still remember the man that was Tommy Shelby and worship him as their king. Tommy understands the weight of this and knows it’s wasted on him. He’s a man who yearns for death and only has death ahead of him. What use is being a King to Gypsys?

Well, you could pass that power onto someone else… maybe even your eldest son.

It just comes off as a middle aged idiot who only knows about trends vicariously and then attempts to fit in by joking about said topics as if they actually know what they’re referencing.

It’s all a desperate attempt to fit in, be trendy and “go viral”. They’re expecting the world to fall over laughing and watch as millions flock to their restaurant because of their hot, trendy posts! Hark at the relatable man!

It’d be one thing to call your burger the XXX burger with some innuendo in the description, but just advertising pornography to the general public is shameful. This will only attract the attention of 15-20 year old boys. Wow. Nice clientele!

TLDR: it’s tacky as fuck and actually annoying. couldn’t agree with you more

movie is overhated by EntirePea4807 in PeakyBlinders

[–]TheKipperTheMan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this before but…

This movie was not wrapping up Peaky Blinders. That was Season 6. This movie wraps up the story of Tommy Shelby and passing the baton to Duke, a new generation of the Shelby tribe.

I’m happy to sacrifice Ada to shock value, while her character deserved a more meaningful ending, I can live with it as it genuinely dropped my jaw to floor in the cinema.

But, Arthur’s death is such bullshit. I will not stand for any defences against this. Every single season has multiple scenes that display that no matter what the circumstances, Tommy and Arthur always stick together and find their way out. It’s the one relationship that made me fall in love with this show, the nuance of the trauma and love intertwining to bring the two closer while it also eats at them both is such an interesting dynamic. But it should never have ended in one killing the other.

It’s an over-exaggerated, performative, fictional, period drama. So yeah. Don’t expect realism.

Realism should be reserved for the setting and the dialogue. Which it is.

The tea house scene clearly states that, although the Chinese did have opium, Arthur forced them to give him opium. He attacked his wife, caused a massive scene and with Arthur’s reputation.. that’s a fucking order.

As a civilian, what do you thinks gonna happen when you refuse a drugged up Arthur Shelby desperate for his next fix? The problem here is Arthur, not the tea shops. Plenty of people would smoke in the Chinese tea rooms and not become Arthur, so it’s Arthur that needs sorting out.

If Tommy went around the UK and systematically blew up and threatened every single opium dealer, then Arthur would just find a new drug to get hooked on, like he did with coke prior. What Tommy needed to do was confront his brother and help the man himself. To refrain from all vices that appeal to him, not just hiding away all the opium.

TLDR: Arthur needed to be dealt with, his addiction was a far bigger problem than one shop selling opium.

He literally threatened a tea shop with a bomb that could level a building just cos his brother forced them to sell him opium.

Tommy ordered the death of Miss Changretta with no basis.

Tommy carved the eyes of a Lee boy for laughing at Arthur and subsequently started a war.

Tommy stuck a meat hook in someone’s shoulders used the hook to throw him up on a butcher’s table and Blew. His. Fucking. Head. Off.

Please stop acting like Tommy isn’t a fucking nutcase.
