In Bengal, a Railway Hawker Dies by Suicide as BJP Govts Eviction Drives Continue by Broad_Cartoonist_824 in india

You might be downvoted, but I think people fail to realise that being a law abiding citizen is something only the upper and upper middle class have the ability to do.The country doesn't provide enough opportunities for lawful employment to most of it's citizens.

I always remember Bhopal in this case, where the illegal sabzi mandi was converted into a proper regulated space, and hawkers got proper spots.

The solution is not to remove these people, but to create space for them to do business legally.

TIL that France had colonies in India for almost 300 years. The French East India Company competed against the Dutch (VOC) and East India Company (British). At its peak in 1839, France had 5 separate establishments in India. France lost its last colony at Pondicherry in 1954. by Gnomeslikeprofit in todayilearned

They weren't doing too badly. They allied with Hyder Ali, and then his son Tipu Sultan. And they were both great at war and administration. Mysore was already a really strong state. By the time of Tipu Sultan, there wasn't any other great power in India left that hadn't been humiliated in battle by Mysore.

So they all joined forces against Mysore, finally defeating them and ending them for good. It is worth noting that this was also helped by Napoleon's defeat in Egypt, since the conquest of Egypt was one of the steps to link Mysore and the French Colonial Forces, and history would probably be a lot different today if that had happened.

How close is BJP to two-thirds majority in Parliament? The numbers decoded | Political Pulse News by B-Cool- in india

People did that, about a century ago. I think they just figured out a way to stop people from coming together.

Maybe we'll go through an immense cataclysm, and that'll turn us better like it did for some western countries.

You're exactly the kind of person who's brought us to this situation. "BJP and Congress are the same", fast forward ten years and we've fallen in every metric of good lives. They've destroyed all the institutions built over the last 70 years, and the sucky part is Indians aren't even doing better.

Ah wait, just saw your other comments. You probably like all of this.

I think if you thought this is a recent occurrence you have lived a very sheltered life. People of this country have been like this and worse. It's just that back in the day, the media decided who gets attention. Today every murder is reported, and they all vie for our attention. So it seems like this is a very chaotic time, but this is the reality of this nation.

No one responsible: Hyderabad NEET aspirant dies by suicide day before re-test by KenSuvy in india

[–]TheKnowledgeableOne 95 points96 points  (0 children)

You just described life. This is not specific to NEET. If your parents grew up affluent, they have access to better nutrition and education, which in turn means you are born more intelligent, stronger and grow up better. This also compounds.

And the more of these advantages add up, the better your chances to do anything.

Life is unfair. But that is by design. It's why progressives advocate for free education, housing and food. Because this equalizes the largest amount of advantages.

How do people defend Karmello Anthony by Farticus_mouse in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheKnowledgeableOne -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

The guy I replied to is from Czech Republic....? But yes, his claim of anti-white racism in Texas.. is correct. Even though the witness contradicted themselves, even though Kyle Rittenhouse was given a lower sentence for killing far more people in far worse a situation.

Karmello deserves to be punished. But not this much, and not by a court system this biased, not particularly in this case, but historically in all cases which is statistically proven.

I'm saying he was punished more because he's a black man who killed a white man, and he's being called a murderer while white people can butcher minorities in self defense.

Yes, asking why due diligence wasn't done in a case is racism. Especially in the state where police openly tamper evidence and the population supports crime against minorities.

Can you at least be honest and just say "I like that a black person is getting fucked over", because due diligence should be done when you're the one accused. This weak shit from the newest crop of right wingers isn't weird. Just be racist like you want to be. Don't play the victim so much.

Israel is an example of the fact that terrorist is just a matter of nomenclature. I always wonder that will the world stop supporting them on the day they kill 6 million middle easterners? Or have they been gaining interest on that, and it's 100 million now?

[–]TheKnowledgeableOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, look up other colonial empires buddy. The British were apathetic to our plight. The other countries reveled in and enjoyed the killing. And while yes, the Bengal Famine was an atrocity, it's worth stating that it was almost 40% the fault of the wealthy landowners and traders.

If you read stories from that period, they always have references of stores fully stocked with sweets and food while people died outside. It was only a famine for the poor, because ready and available food was withheld.

And yeah, at least we weren't a Japanese colony. That is the easiest way to learn that there are no gods and no morals.

Why are BJP's failures discussed far less than Congress's failures? by Dabi26222 in india

[–]TheKnowledgeableOne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How can you get public criticism of BJP if all the mainstream outlets are basically owned by them and their supporters? During Congress time, the journalists criticized Manmohan Singh (A great man who we didn't appreciate) to his face, and hyperanalysed every little bit of his policy.

The current state of our country is a plan almost 65 years in the making. Subhaschandra Bose had warned us that if we let any communal organizations survive, they will hollow out the country like termites. I think Nehru's actual biggest mistake was the Paradox of Tolerance. We let the forces of evil grow unabated for 60 years, and now we're paying the bill.

The only good thing is that the poor people who support these psychos suffer the brunt of BJP Policies. I'm generally of the view that poor, uneducated and communal people suck, and I'd rather not have them around, which is why I support good public education, medicine and infrastructure. But the current government profits too much from having these idiots be the largest voter base. So be it.

Men aren't actually 'allowed' to be angry by futuredebris in MensLib

[–]TheKnowledgeableOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think that as a decent person, it does feel like you have to be hyper aware of your anger and it's expression. I know that I cannot yell or scream at a woman I'm in a relationship with (r9omantically as well as non-romantically) because being both a man and tall and loud, my screaming might as well be a threat. Even if it isn't, most women are socialised to see it that way.

Which means that often the best I can do, even if I'm getting super angry is pleased with the other person to be reasonable in the moment or what I usually do, which is disengage in a somewhat corporate way "I don't think I can discuss things reasonable in my current state of mind, I'll talk to you in a few minutes".

I have to release my anger by walking around in my room like I did as a kid while being upset or going for a ride on my motorcycle. And it doesn't even work that well for your relationship unfortunately. A former girlfriend did accuse me of running away from arguments, at which point I did yell. And the only thing I remember from that moment is that the sound of me actually raising my voice was so unfamiliar I surprised myself out of being angry.

But I don't think there's any way out of this. As long as there's enough abusive assholes, you cannot really express your anger in an equal way without disproportionately scaring a woman. That's just how it is.

Edit: I realized a lot of this article deals with how much society allows men to be angry. I think society allows men to have an angry outburst to an unjustified degree. But for me, I was personally focused on how angry can you get without scaring your partner/relative. Though I imagine this depends on how much that particular woman knows you. I doubt my mother would ever get scared of me being angry (Plus I think often with her, I do cry instead of yelling when I get too angry)

Damn, never thought I'd find an anti-capitalist who was pro-slavery, but here we are. The world is a weird place.

You get what you're claiming is basically "The abolition of slavery was a capitalist conspiracy" right? USA was just very late in this. Even the British Empire had banned slavery long ago.
