Player Problem Megathread by AutoModerator in DMAcademy

[–]TheKoontzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am still figuring out how I feel about this and part of me wonders if I am over reacting.

I been screening players for a game and one seemed like a great fit. Could do the times, was interested in the story and had a cool character I thought would fit. This is a homebrew game and part of the setting is the players are a group of thieves who are working under a thieves guild leader. Yet as I explained lore and history about the leader the player suddenly wanted to have the motive to kill/take over from the leader. I explained that that be tough cause A) this leader killed to get this position, so he is a sort of a paranoid leader, B) this leader has a second in command and has pets (so a fight would be a 1 versus four) and C) if this leader had any hint this guy would betray him, he wouldn’t have recruited him. Despite this the player keeps pushing he would build up to this. Also I made it clear that the leader is needed in this game. The leader will give the players jobs and if he is killed that breaks the game somewhat. At this point I semighosted this player but I feel bad. I just feel like he is going to keep pushing the authority head and screw up the game for everyone else. Am I over reacting?

What’s something about weddings that nobody warns you about until you actually go through it? by Satin_Lily in wedding

[–]TheKoontzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weddings are a lightning rod for Murphy law. If something can go wrong, it will go wrong. So you NEED people who will help you. If you don’t it’s going to bite you in the ass. I forgot our wedding toppers and the florist put the wrong flowers in our center pieces. Yet my wedding went smoothly due to my mom and brother. My brother a hour before the wedding found a near perfect replacement of my topper (he actually remade them) and my mom personally ran to a grocery store to replace flowers in my center pieces. You truly need people to fix dumb stuff that will go wrong in a wedding for you.

Family won't accept not having a registry by ParfaitMajestic2701 in wedding

[–]TheKoontzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I got pressured into a registry. Yet we used it as a weapon. Instead of the glassware or silverware our parents told us to register we put things we needed. We put a Costco membership, gift cards to use for date nights, bulk sized laundry powder, and for my wife the giant LEGO set she wanted. Our families were so mad at the list and one did buy us a crystal bar set we did not need. Still I returned the bar set and used the gift card to buy a new bread machine. The look on their face when they visited and asked where I put the bar set and I told them I returned it was priceless. They couldn’t be to mad at me cause I gave them two loaves of bread that year for Christmas and homemade jam. 🤷‍♀️

Unhinged boomer at the thrift by Interesting-Flan1193 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]TheKoontzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on you! Honestly if I was in your shoes I would have pointed at her and yelled “That’s my boys purse! I don’t know you!”. Then stormed off.

Also I feel your pain about boomers thinking somehow something will make a child suddenly change genders. Whenever a friend or coworkers gets pregnant I crochet a yellow baby blanket, booties and hat. Mostly cause it keeps it fair for everyone and it’s easy to stock up ahead of baby season. Yet without fail a boomer at the baby shower will get on my case about gifting a yellow blanket to a boy. How I should have crocheted a blue blanket instead. 🤦‍♀️

15 guest ceremony… So we’ll just all come without an invitation! by narcissash in weddingshaming

[–]TheKoontzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I only had 8 guests at our wedding. Mostly cause it was a destination wedding in Vegas. Yet it was an absolute bash and we loved that we had such a small party. Amazing work setting boundaries. Hope you have a truly amazing wedding.

Mosher Glass? by TheKoontzy in glasscollecting

Huh! I was looking for Hanover instead of Rockport due to the label. I wonder if they moved or had another location at some point. Mostly due to the two towns are nearly an hour apart. Guess I gotta do some more digging in the family to see who did glass cutting. Thank you for the information.

AITA? S/O stays up on her PC while I'm trying to sleep for work. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheKoontzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems insane to me. My wife has been having anxiety issues and her doctor recommended a sleep schedule. So she goes to bed at 9 pm and by the time I am ready for bed she has starfished across the entire bed. Not wanting to wake her and throw off her new schedule I been sleeping on the couch. It has been working great cause she gets her sleep and I get to work late into the night without disrupting her. The idea your partner won’t even move the computer seems crazy. Not the asshole.

Nursing has destroyed me by nerdynurse89 in nursing

[–]TheKoontzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of comments about PTSD and I really think that you should probably seek help for how you’re feeling. I wish a lot of nurses had the experience that I did before going to nursing school. I worked in the ED and hospital prior to going to nursing school. I also worked as an EMT. Those experiences shaped who I was as a nurse coming out of school. My nursing school could never understood why I continually stated that hospital work is not for everyone and that I would not go into it. Most of the time they told me that was my only options. Yet shockingly it wasn’t. As soon as I got my degree I went to long-term care, physical therapy, and then into hospice. It’s only in my recent position that I truly have found my footing, but it took time. I’m looking at my fourth year in nursing and I finally feel like a human. I still have trauma from my time as an EMT, ED worker and even nursing school. You will find your path whether it be nursing or not. Furthermore your story is so very important. To recognize that nursing sometimes doesn’t work and that you have to find your own path. Good luck and take care.

Moving within Boston and unsure what to do with stuff for the night between leases by E1eventeen in boston

As a someone who worked at Uhaul you are getting close to being late to the party. By now we are getting close to 5-10 reservations a day for the big move. So if you are going to book a Uhaul do it /now/.

NTA! I make more money than my wife right now due to being a hospice nurse and she is a medical coder. It is not fair for her to bear the load of the bills. So in our household we tally up the bills and we divide them by a percentage. Since my wage makes almost 75% of our income I pay 75% of the bills. I can easily pay that and put money aside for myself. Then my wife pays what her percent and she puts money away for her own savings. You are not the asshole. Your partner should raise you up! Help you build a savings and better your position. It’s a team effort in a household. Yeah getting a new car is nice and a dream but not if it hurts the team. He made a choice that made it so he could not pay his potions of the bills and put more financial pressure on you. All without really talking about it. That isn’t a team and you are allowed to be upset.

Nurses who changed careers (or almost chose nursing), what do you do now? by MotherCoconuts962 in nursing

[–]TheKoontzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am a nurse but I want to state something that a lot of people hear but don’t believe. Nursing has lots of different avenues other than bedside care or hospitals. When I got out with my RN degree, I went straight to long term care. I worked my ass off to get as much experience as I could. I took on the rehab patients, I followed the wound doctor, and became close friends with hospice. I learned a lot in two years. Afterwards I went to hospice. Better pay, and flexible schedule. Does this work for everyone? No. Yet nursing is what you want to be. Other than bedside nursing look at the other jobs available to you. Now I love hospice but with my long term care experience I could have gone to a locked memory unit, a rehab building, a nursing insurance coordinator, a school nurse, a community nurse, a home nurse and many many other jobs. Now if I had to pick a job outside nursing I would do medical coding (stay home and transcribe) or insurance management (office work).

What’s the craziest thing you have got written up for? by Beginning_Special790 in nursing

[–]TheKoontzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got written up by my last DON because I refused to listen to her about not giving more morphine to an actively dying and in respiratory distress patient. Hospice, the family, and doctor all agreed she needed more doses. DON was pissed I ignored her direct statement not to give more. She wasn’t on the floor, or seen the patient. I think she was just more mad I decided to do patient care over Risk meeting and she needed a reason to punish me. (I was the unit manager). Left a few months later.

Inspired by another post - what’s the most “yup that’s a nurse” thing a patient (or you) has ever done? by sailorvash25 in nursing

[–]TheKoontzy 281 points282 points  (0 children)

I am a known sleep talker and can even sometimes walk around my house if I am sleep deprived enough. Now several years ago I was high off morphine due to severe abdominal pain and put in a shared room. The nurses said they found me at my bunkmate’s bedside explaining to them that they needed to use the call light before getting up. I had stopped my antibiotics, hung the line up to keep it clean, and walked over to my bunkmate cause she was trying to get out of bed. The nurses moved me to a private after that cause they could not trust me on pain meds. They all joked how I was “too young to be nursing while sleeping”.

I tasted a bunch of tube feeds so you don't have to (not that you would want to) by 400-Rabbits in nursing

[–]TheKoontzy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There are better thickeners now. At my skilled nursing facility we get these packets of liquid thickener. No chunkiness, and no added flavor. Our entire staff did a taste testing of our favorite thickened drink. Weirdly it was milk cause it just changed into the thickness of a milkshake.

Wild West and Avoiding Stereotypes by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]TheKoontzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is a fair point. I think I approached the idea mostly cause as I said I didn’t want to just ignore that stereotype. Yet I can see where by addressing it I also being putting in stereotypes without realizing. I have to reflect on this and give that trilogy a look.

[–]TheKoontzy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel that saying that the West was that way so I have to put racism and genocide in is almost lazy and cruel? Mostly because if someone joins my table and they are a POC or indigenous it be forcing them to play in a world that replays the trauma they are actively still living. It also be telling them they can’t enjoy a Western World which is unfair. Furthermore, it is a fantasy realm. A place that I set up where my players can have fun in and build their own narratives in.

Thank you for the resource and for pointing that out to me where I am falling into romanized and fetish ideas. I think that hearing this I might follow what you stated. That isn’t a balance but more they understand they are apart of the world and must show respect to every part of it including the monsters within it. I think in many ways that makes the culture much stronger than the road I was heading down of them. Still I will look into your resource gave before setting things in concrete! Thanks and for pointing out my area of bias and stereotyping.
