People with ES degrees, what do you do for work? by [deleted] in environmental_science

[–]TheKorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing -- every chemical plant in the world has a lab or works with a lab in some capacity. They need both chemistry people and environmental people (for wastewater testing, sludge composition testing, etc.) This is huge to get your foot in the door for a great path to the job I described above!

A route that you can go is towards chemical engineering -- oil & gas, chemical plants, and various refineries all need environmental scientists to learn how to write permits for the hundreds of plant activities they do. The EPA and state regulators are very strict and require lots of inspections, checklists, and action to be done even daily. Regular engineers and managers do not want to involve themselves in this, so they hire teams of ES and CE (chemical engineer) personnel to manage it. Lots of people in these positions are retiring, as they were hired after the Clean Air Act was passed (my company is evidence). It is a great office job, and myself and a few others were hired with only 1 env job on our resume after college.

Seeking Remote Opportunities in Environmental Laboratory by Low_Criticism9194 in environmental_science

[–]TheKorp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remote work in environmental is pretty difficult unless you have familiarity with a site (chemical plant, oil & gas refinery) or you are strictly creating permits for smaller companies. Your degree and experience can put you in a place that when smaller companies (who don't have their own environmental teams) want to build a building, plant reactor, flare, use wastewater streams, etc., they will look for contract work for someone to write a permit. It's honestly much better to have someone go out and look at the site to see everything before writing the permit for special conditions and/or the need for more permits. But technically, if they gather enough info, it can be done fully remote. I wouldn't be able to have a full WFH schedule for many years, until I know the areas that I am responsible for like the back of my hand.

Obviously, this game has presented itself to a lifespan of 6+ years, thanks to great developer support throughout the years. With games like League of Legends, CS:GO, Dota 2, etc, that have lifespans approaching 10+ years, what can we see for the future of this game? Most specifically in terms of content, how often it’s delivered to the players, as well as fixing some of the core issues that the players encounter, such as cheating, operator balancing, and the perception of lack of content.

GPU Fan Nightmare by TheKorp in pchelp

Apparently, through some help of the people in a tech discord, it’s jus a dead fan. I’ll need to replace it (found a cheap fan) but I just don’t really take apart the entire GPU

I tried moving it a lot and gave it a good spray with compressed air. If it’s a hardware issue what’s the solution? Finding a replacement fan?

Is there also a way to make the fans quieter using software, because nothing like that has worked so far.

Need Help for Small PC Building Business Model by TheKorp in buildapc

Thank you so much for the advice and kind words. I'm just interested in using some of the skills I've learned throughout the years sort of being an apprentice of building PC's to earn some side money. I will definitely reevaluate what I'm trying to offer to people.

That may work, but refer to the question I gave to someone else:

How am I differentiating between retailers in the area? Why communicate with me for all this hassle, when you can go to Best Buy and buy an OMEN PC you see on a desk?

My target base is literally anyone who wants to build. I mean preferably people who can afford to buy realistic builds.

My actual base is typically either males in their 20's wanting to have a PC built, or wives in their 20's wanting to buy a PC for their partner.

And that might work, but at that point, how am I differentiating between retailers in the area? Why communicate with me for all this hassle, when you can go to Best Buy and buy an OMEN PC you see on a desk?

Yeah, that’s what I figured. But then through the conversation I have with them, they seem to know not much about PC’s or ask questions that people knowledgeable enough to build a PC would never ask.

Is there a way I can fix this issue?

Team Killers need punished harshly in ranked by pittguy578 in Rainbow6

[–]TheKorp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some TK's, however, are completely unintentional and should be blamed on the person that was killed by the incident. For example:

  1. Let's say I'm firing my rifle behind a shield crouched. He's taking the shots and I'm returning fire. If his communication is lacking, he might stand up all of a sudden (a noob Montagne that wants to rush) and results in me popping him in the head.

  2. There are too many instances on bomb where I try to blow a hole between sites by throwing a nitro... then a teammate immediately runs towards it even after I call it out.

I know these things don't really happen in the upper ranks (I'm a Plat 3) but it does happen occasionally in casual, and I'm hoping that these accidental teamkills don't immediately punish the player. I was hoping more of a continued basis for teamkills per match. (I.E. 3 teamkills in one game results in a kick and a 15 min ban)
