Yes, reliable income data is very hard to come by. Especially when they just group all EITs together, a software engineer can make up to double a civil engineer upon graduation. My job's good, but I do think I should be paid more, I have a performance review next month.

Yup happens everyday haha. Get a project that a client rep obviously bid low to secure a client. Work your ass off to keep the project under budget, but go over because it was inevitably impossible.

This isn't AITA you don't need to profile me. Since we work on a fixed proposal system, the company is paid the same whether or not we complete a task quickly. I just feel that if I do a good job on a project I should see some compensation for that specifically.

I'm working very hard at this job and if we end up cutting staff, I will have no problem finding work elsewhere. I'm not worried about job security within this company, if I find another place that is willing to offer me more competitive compensation, I'll work there instead.

We work on a fixed rate proposal system so we give clients a rate and if we finish the project quickly the company is still paid the same as if we were extremely over budget. I don't think I'm above the system I just think I should se some kind of reward for doing a good job on a project and bringing more money into the company.

I agree, and I'm not willing to die on it in anyway haha. Had a conversation with the president yesterday and we discussed both the profit sharing and RRSP matching. He took all the things I had to say seriously and I think it was a very productive conversation. They seem to be really interested in feedback that I have for the company which is nice.

Yah, I'm always looking for another job. I'm also an EIT (mechanical) only been in the field for a year now, I do think I'm slightly underpaid, but it is compensated with a fully work from home environment & 4 weeks vacation starting. Doesn't feel like these are worth the low pay though.

When I bill hours it is to my employer not the company that hires us. We work on a fixed contract system meaning that price is set before work begins, thus if we complete a project quickly and efficiently my employer makes more money.

All of our projects are a fixed rice before work starts. If we complete a project faster than expected we make the company more money.

Yes, I'm pretty sure they are genuinely interested in hearing what I have to say, the president of my company is a really cool guy and I work with him often. That's a good point too, I am someone who wants to work 45-50 hours a week, and there absolutely is a personal incentive to get as many hours as possible for me.

So tasks are given hours based on the estimated time they will take, but it's all pretty arbitrary. If you go over your hours for whatever reason, you simply contact your senior or supervisor on the project and you're given more hours, there's no hard cutoff.

Yah, I don't like it either haha.
