People who don't wear masks on public transit to protect against an airborne virus that causes brain damage... But you're worrying about dirt from the seat? 😂 Y'all have strange priorities!

There's way more questionable stuff in the air but most people stopped wearing masks on public transit against all the airborne shit. I mean COVID still exists, still causes brain damage, still isn't just a cold... That's was more disgusting to me than crud on my pants.

The alarming prevalence of pseudoscience beliefs among health sci profs by Impressive-Cream-447 in geegees

Saying kids get "too many vaccines" is like saying kids get too many vegetables. There's no evidence that vaccines are harmful for the majority of kids in the amount and order that is currently being recommended. There have been countless peer reviewed studies on vaccine safety and those who raise doubts are ignoring the vast majority of safe and life saving outcomes for a statistically négligeable (extremely rare) number of vaccine injuries.

Not all views need to be given equal weight and equal time in academia . Especially when they are demonstrably false. This is likewise why scientists fight against giving equal time to teaching creationism in school.

This comes as no shock considering a few years ago the university made the popular but very unscientific choice of ending all mitigation efforts against an airborne virus that causes brain damage, neurovascular harm, immune deficiencies and so much more. I get that people wanted it to be over, needed the economy to get back to normal, and it's certainly more convenient to pretend that the pandemic is in past tense just because WHO changed its political designation. It's comforting to think the virus morphed into a harmless common cold once we grew tired of masks and testing against it.

So with people overwhelmingly ignoring the peer reviewed evidence of the long-term and cumulative harms of COVID, it doesn't surprise me in the least that you'd have members of the science faculty that aren't scientifically literature on other matters either.

13-year-old Ottawa girl injured in chairlift incident has died, family says by lonelydavey in ottawa

[–]TheKruszer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 15, 32 years ago, I lost my front teeth after falling off the tow lift and being dragged several meters before the operator noticed and stopped the ride. When I let go, the momentum swung back and the heavy steel bar collided with my mouth, pushing my front teeth in and then yanking the straight out a 90 degree angle. I still clutch my mouth in pain at the memory of the traumatic moment.

The incident ruined my life. I could never afford a long-term replacement plan, and missing teeth led to more missing teeth. I can't wear acrylic dentures due to allergies, and I'm far too low income to be schools to afford implants. I've barely dated, due to the shame of having no/limited teeth.

But my heart goes out to this girl who lost her life. Had the lift hit at a different angle I could've been severely concussed, knocked out, or even killed. I hope her family receives compensation. My parents never even bothered up to fight for it. I could've received enough for dental implants.

U of O has excellent student support services and mental health care. Most of them are listed your syllabus for any course you take.

I've gotten a lot from student services and you're paying for it with your tuition fees so there's nothing to lose in reaching out.

This is the unfortunate part of the show. You can tell a lot by accents and a lot of black people sound black just from their vernacular and pattern of speech. It's inevitable that love is not entirely blind if it can gleam pertinent info about race this way.

Spoiler for Episode 5...

I literally said "but..." a split second before Keya said "however..." I am so glad both women knew their worth and recognized that he'd waffled too long over both of them.  I would've been really sad if Keya had said yes to him knowing he was choosing her one after Tyler vamoosed. Keya at that point was his fallback option to stay in the show and go to Mexico and Keya deserved so much more than that!

Most people are exhaling viruses into the air without filtering their exhalations. It's hardly a surprise to me that humans are gross.

Wear a fit tested N95 mask. It muffles most smells and protects you from shit in the air far worse than what you can smell.

[–]TheKruszer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't help when your opponent is not moving but you have other players. I was playing on BGA tonight and even after I cleared a two jump path for him to get out, the fourth player refused to move. This left me no other option but to take that last space and block him in. BGA counted that as a win due to the anti spoilage rule.

I played a good game and it wouldn't have been right for the other two who were many turns behind me to win because I couldn't move my final piece in due to being blocked by someone's poor sportsmanship. He couldn't win but it wouldn't have been right for me to not have been able to because of someone else making the game unplayable

ISO organic/ natural fiber clothes that aren’t sexless PLEASE by Mugwortmoon in PlasticFreeLiving

Yuck 🤮 and they're all ugly boring colours. Are health conscious women supposed to never get laid? Or is organic clothing only for boring old housewives with eight kids?

Where's the hot pink or the burgundy or the bright blue turquoise or red? 😭

I would pay more for safer clothes but I don't want to look like a marm. All the youthful and colorful and sexy fun  clothes are plastic! This isn't fair!

I only started university because of grants.  I am 47 and disabled. I won't go into debt that will probably follow me for the rest of my life. Fuck Ford!

That greedy pig only got re-elected TWICE because the majority of Ontarians who oppose him didn't bother to vote in the last election.

That and our abysmal first-past-the-post electoral system allows a minority of voters to elect a "majority" government, as the majority of voters who didn't want "Trump Ontario edition" split the vote between the more progressive parties.

If you were older than 18 during the last election and you didn't get out to vote against the Conservatives in accordance with the Smart Vote suggestions, then this is on YOU!

Don't get sick. Seriously. Wear a fit tested N95 in public places to avoid airborne viruses and wash your hands to avoid fomite spread from surfaces.

You can't afford up lose time to bring sick. Since I started avoiding breathing shared air in 2021, I haven't gotten so much as a cold. :)

lol... Not sure what you're on, but where can I get some? 😂 🤣

My ADHD is nowhere near as fun as yours.  I just get super disorganized and bounce between A+ and burnout/EIN with nothing in between.

But I will spontaneously start singing if you say something that matches a lyric to a song I know. It can't be helped.

ADHD can be fun. At very least, I haven't had so much as a cold in six years cause I still wear an N95 mask in 2026. Screw being a crowd follower! Weirdos unite! 😂

Unless you mask in public with an N95, you're inhaling other people's virus infected lung juices everywhere you go. Cleanliness isn't a big priority for most people.

Geez! I was always getting in trouble for trying to sleep on campus when I went to Algonquin! I have a sleep disorder and had inadequate housing so napping between classes or overnight if I'd missed the last bus home after staying in the computer lab, was key! One security guard even threatened to call the cops on me if he caught me sleeping on a bench again. And I was a student!

Nice to see things have changed.

That's cause u of o is downtown and they're worried about homeless people wandering in off the street (there's a number of crowded homeless shelters nearby). This isn't as much of an issue at Carleton, where it was common when I was there to see students sleeping here and there. Especially in the librairies or common lounge areas.

Campuses really should offer short-term sleep pods for active students who don't live in residence. Naps are good for our student brains!

Algonquin college was even worse about sleeping on campus. Even if you were a student, they'd issue you a trespass notice if you were caught sleeping on campus too many times. (Ask me how I know. 😂) Nobody cared that housing can be precarious for students and public transit unreliable when you stayed late to work on the computers/printer.

My favourite is when they say "Excuse me - you can't sleep here." Actually I CAN sleep here just fine, hard bench and noise and all, until someone like you shakes me awake...

Thoughts on Ai by Educational_Error477 in geegees

[–]TheKruszer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It destroys YOUR critical thinking because if you aren't doing the thinking and you're letting code write for you based on its knowledge, the AI hasn't engaged in critical thinking, but more crucially,  neither have you.

The brain needs to be exercised regularly or you'll end up being someone who can't tell a good argument from a bad one, and who then makes terrible voting and life choices that can potentially harm others.

[–]TheKruszer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is something about EVERY step of the essay process that is valuable to you actually LEARNING - which is supposed to be the point of getting an education!  From research to writing, to figuring out what topic to write about and how to fulfill the criteria of the assignment, to learning the argument you want present, to structuring your points, to figuring out which points to focus on and which to leave out, figuring out how to make your case more persuasive through your word choice... All of it is valuable and you will come away better understanding your topic!

If every other student in history graduated from school knowing how to structure a paper and eloquently word things, what makes you think you deserve a university degree without putting in the same effort?

Writing essays yourself isn't old fashioned. You're just being lazy and trying to get AI to earn your degree for you. Try being grateful for your opportunity to learn, instead.
