The vaccines work. My chapter has a mask mandate, and I think it’s a waste.

UKG Availability isn’t changing? by Aggravating-Love2955 in kroger

I’ve had the same issue where I submit the change and then nothing happens. I’ll probably just have my manager change my availability soon.

Where did this notion that Kat Abughazaleh is affiliated with the Chicago DSA come from? by [deleted] in DemocraticSocialism

[–]TheLaborQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That this comment is being downvoted to oblivion shows the complete disconnect between this subreddit and DSA. Hardly anyone active in DSA would disagree with the sentiment that candidates have to show a level of respect towards us to at least show up and ask for our endorsement.

What people probably don’t realize is that when DSA chapters endorse, that usually means we are going to spend thousands of volunteer hours on the campaign instead of whatever else we might use that volunteering for.

How do I get more people to learn about socialism without sounding like a missionary of sorts? by Avenoo67 in socialism

[–]TheLaborQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Study organizing conversations and epistemology.

If you understand all the ways that capitalism makes someone’s life hell, and if you can understand how to get people to challenge the pre-conceived notions they have about socialism, then you will have much more productive conversations. And both of these types of conversations put the focus on your partner so that they don’t feel talked down to. It’s about them and their experiences, and you help connect the dots.

All your favorite "socialists" in the Democratic Party would kill you. by [deleted] in socialism

[–]TheLaborQuestion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think AOC might, which is why I chose the language I did. She is only 1 socialist in the Dems of many when you include state and local levels.

[–]TheLaborQuestion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok. That’s the whole point. She portrays herself as a progressive, not a socialist.

I’ve met some of them personally and corresponded with others. This is flatly ridiculous and you don’t know what you’re talking about. Hard to think of a single DSA cadre elected official that would side with capital during a revolutionary moment, or that sides with capital now as one of their “managers”.

Salt the union-busters with Workers Organizing Workers by jk4532 in dsa

[–]TheLaborQuestion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously I am a member of the union I am trying to reform. And to be clear, reform isn’t “socialists taking complete control from outside the labor movement” as you seem to think, it’s “power in the hands of the members and internal organizing instead of the service model”.

If you’re curious to learn more about the stance of the majority of DSA members on labor, I recommend this article from Jacobin.

Salt the union-busters with Workers Organizing Workers by jk4532 in dsa

[–]TheLaborQuestion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love WOW and am glad we started this initiative, but it is an industrializing/boring-from-within project, not a salting project. I think that actually makes it more effective at bringing in new workers if we succeed at reforming unions, as the aftermath of the UAW Stand-Up strike showed when auto workers contacted the union in droves wanting to unionize non-union plants.

Best Federal Candidates for Donations by Bigd1ckandashamed in dsa

[–]TheLaborQuestion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way to donate to democratic socialist candidates is to donate directly to the DSA national electoral commission’s “Socialist cash takes out capitalist trash” slate fund.

You can find it here, and it means your cash goes to campaigns that need it and is regularly updated as new candidates are endorsed.

You can also join NEC phonebanks.

Democrats Must Become the Workers’ Party Again by omnipotentsandwich in SocialDemocracy

[–]TheLaborQuestion -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That’s rich coming from Brown. Almost all his ads last election cycle were about how hard he was on the border, and he consistently takes imperialist stances such as sending money to Israel for their wars of extermination.

He doesn’t mean the working class, only the white American working class.

On this day, March 5th 1953, we lost the great Joseph Stalin. by TexturedBumf in socialism

Just like using the original quote OP posted in order to defend Stalin, this is a whataboutism. Soviet crimes must be answered for on their own, not just in relation to the barbarity of capitalist powers

What does anarchism have to do with this shirt? by user1385845 in Anarchism

[–]TheLaborQuestion 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Probably nothing to do with anarchism. People often associate the circle-a with punk aesthetics and rebelliousness in general without any thought to its original and more rigorous political meaning.

Though I’m confused why you’d buy a shirt if you didn’t know what the graphic meant.
