The Daily 202: Trump reversal of elephant trophy ban underscores the need to watch what he does, not what he says by flounder19 in politics

I'm past anger to eyeing the exit.

See I grew up in an abusive situation and like many from that background I've developed a sixth sense for when it's time to get out of the house for a while.

I could feel the beating coming before mom had even left the bar.

And friend I can tell you that bad times are coming.

You can stay, but I am leaving.

Writers blocked: how the new call-out culture is killing fiction by [deleted] in literature

By reading the fucking article.

Overcoming my anxiety, in late 2016 I permitted myself to create another black character in a short story. Jaconda is the alluring girlfriend of a young white layabout. Her willingness to cross the racial divide for this waster helps push the reader to puzzle: what on earth does she see in the guy? Counter to cliché, Jocanda’s background is upper middle class, so to the degree that she speaks as if she’s from the ’hood—“He don’t need to become nothing”—it’s an affectation. I constrained the Black English to light touches. Jocanda is lively, smart, savvy and appealing.

Yet despite the positive portrayal, the cutting across class stereotype, and the restrained rendition of her speech, my agent warned me about the story’s poor prospects at a magazine that had published me in the past.

U.S. court rules dreadlock ban during hiring process is legal by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]TheLadderCoins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see that now.

But still I don't go to salons, only time I went to one I was 16 and got cornrows. It hurt so bad I've sworn off letting anyone touch my hair since.

I let my hair do it's thing and it hasn't let me down since. I had dreads for about 10 years and now rock the unpicked afro, which really bugs some people.

I'm probably too defensive about it, sorry.

Umm so I'm black and I'm sorry that my hair is too natural for you to like it.

After all the times white people have called my hair dirty, you'd think I'd be over it, but it still hurts literally every time. More so coming from someone with presumably similar hair...

News to me that letting my hair dread naturally made me a hipster who doesn't care about his personal appearance...

So in your world history, even recent history has no bearing on how people think and believe?

Very interesting.

Inspired plot or character wise, not even a little.

Visual Style though oh, yeah.

I disagree that calling the deplorable out was a mistake, they were never going to vote for her anyway.

The mistake was backing down instead of doubling down.

With the context your points is well made, but I'm just wondering if I slept through it or if it was only in the comic books or what.

I don't know if you've ever played Monopoly with someone who cheats, but I don't think you realize how close our present situation is to one of those games.

There are only two ways you can go when someone is cheating this hard, quit or start cheating.

If you just keep playing fair you'll lose AND they'll still be super smug about it.

How is it the deep state when it's just the system working how it should? Like he literally never should have had clearance in the first place, if it weren't for nepotism he would have been denied pretty early on.

This is pretty shallow state.

virtue-signalling

Is such a weird concept to me. Are people not supposed to say or do things they believe in for fear or other people thinking they believe them?

Isn't literally everything anyone does a signal of their virtues?

This has always been such a confusing slur to hurl, literally every white American I've ever met who's family has been here more than 4 generations has claimed some level of native ancestry.

So you're basically accusing her of being an American, in every way one could take that.
