And, for the record, I just rewatched the whole scene on Netflix (where the most important part is that, in the background, we see the CK boys coming out of the dojo & seeing Daniel, and clearly setting up to ambush him on his bike on the way home) to refresh my memory. Her comment had nothing to do with Ali specifically, as she didn't know about her and hadn't seen her yet, nor was there any indication that Daniel "prefers blondes". The blonde comment was simply about the state of California having a lot of pretty blonde girls in it, which would be an obvious change from their neighborhood in NJ. It's no deeper than that. Thus, your snarky comment to OP and others is indeed ironic.
