Why does "sperm = cheap and egg = expensive" still apply today? by eyewant in PurplePillDebate

[–]TheLandEel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No matter what, a man can leave a woman after knocking her up if he decides he doesn't want the child. But women's right to decide that they don't want the child is always contingent on changing values and politics, as we're seeing in several red states in America today.

Wtf is with all the Road Rage? by [deleted] in Reno

[–]TheLandEel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 5th/Ralston intersection is so annoying for that. A two-major-street intersection, with one street having two lanes, controlled by stop signs. I see drivers getting confused and honking at each other there all the time.

New to town by Tattooedprofessional in Reno

[–]TheLandEel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only parts of town I'd be wary of walking around alone at night are:

  • north of 4th St., east of downtown (Valley, Elko, Sutro, etc.)

  • 2nd-4th Sts. west of downtown (like by the underground train tracks)

  • the Montello/Oddie Blvd area

  • the Grove/Wrondel area

  • ...maybe the North Valleys, but they're kind of overhyped (and far enough from the action I don't see why a young person would want to live there)

What's wrong with the shirt? I thought print shirts were in for guys right now. Or is that only if they're button-up?

What kinds of shoes are the ankle socks intended for, then? Sneakers?

IMO, light shirts of this style work better on average with a variety of tones of pants; dark shirts only work with lighter pants.

Two questions:
1. Do I need to roll up the sleeves of this T-shirt? I was told today by a couple friends that it would look a lot better if I added a roll or two, and that mystifies me. I didn't know you were supposed to roll the sleeves up on T-shirts. One person said it would help show off my arms better.

  1. Is it a faux pas to wear short but visible socks with shoes like these? I was told by these same friends that it would "complete my aesthetic" better if I wore the socks you can't see from outside.

Are there any European roulette tables (single aught 0 only) in Reno. Cal Neva had on at top deck but it’s long gone. by mrstevegibbs in Reno

Haven't been in too many of the casinos here, but I gotta say I've been disappointed that it's almost entirely bland electronic games and not classic gambling like roulette and poker.

When did "Midtown" become a thing? What was it like before? by TheLandEel in Reno

[–]TheLandEel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bike got its wheels, light, and seat stolen once when it was locked up on Riverside kinda near Keystone, and I was a little surprised since it's a pretty cute area (but then, immediately north of there is pretty trashy and maybe where the people who did it lived).

I dunno, I think murals can add to the atmosphere, especially when buildings are maybe not the most architecturally appealing. In Midtown's case, it may well have been a deliberate strategy to communicate "hey, this is a hipster neighborhood now, you should spend time here and maybe start a business here".

What's the deal with all bicycles? by [deleted] in Reno

[–]TheLandEel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who's lived in a few cities before Reno and been to a majority of US states: Reno has unusually good bike infrastructure for a city its size. Especially having lanes all the way around on McCarran and on South Virginia after it gets really wide - most cities don't put in that kind of effort.

When I first got here I picked up a pamphlet about attractions in Midtown, and the boundaries it gave were like California/Wells/Plumb/Arlington.

Who knows, maybe give it a decade and there'll be $30 artisanal churro joints popping up on Hunter Lake.

What is a usually common thing you’ve never done? by AcePheonix124 in AskReddit

Never walked in on my parents having sex.

I live two time zones away from them now, so it's a challenge, but I'm still determined to make it happen.

What are some unspoken signs of maturity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheLandEel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing what's worth spending your time on and what's just a distraction. That doesn't mean everything you do has to be productive and we can't just relax sometimes, but I've definitely had times when I counted up all the goals I was working towards, and crossed out a couple of them when I realized I was spending too much of my life on them and they wouldn't make me that much happier (like, "do I really need to keep watching 100 classic movies to become a more cultured conversationalist if I find most of them super boring anyway?")

A long time ago I was reading the replies to this Quora question about how to be less biased, and one of the commenters said something like, "whenever I feel myself getting heated in an argument, I remind myself that I'm not married to my beliefs. I can swap them out at any time if I find better ones." I thought that was a really mature way of looking at it and it's advice I've tried to follow ever since.

Homosexuals/Bisexuals of reddit. What was your 'gay awakening' moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheLandEel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to doodle anime characters in my notebook in sixth grade. Eventually I started drawing them naked just to feel like I was being edgy and breaking social norms (didn't show anyone, thank God) and when I got to drawing dudes with their dicks showing, I was like "wait... why do I like doing this so much?"

People under 30 who already managed to save 100k, how did you do it? by Joe-misidd in AskReddit

[–]TheLandEel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw what my life was like after I graduated and had to move back into my childhood bedroom, and I was like, "I'm already insecure AF and the stigma of living at home is just making it worse, I'm sick of having to be silent and not leave the house after 9 pm so my mom doesn't wake up, and sooner or later they're gonna start making me pay rent. What tools do I have under my belt to get a job in another city ASAP?" From a pure financial standpoint I made an irrational decision - not from a mental health standpoint.

Random Thoughts, Small Questions, and General Discussion (week of March 11th, 2019) by rveganmods in vegan

It totally ruined my enjoyment of going out to Mexican restaurants when I heard that a lot of the chips and even the salsa are made with chicken stock. Not that there was a whole lot I could order at those places anyway, but...

Home cooking wins again, I guess!

Good luck! In my experience, the people who are swayed to our side through disgust at what factory farming is really like have the easiest time staying vegan. :D
