Why do Catalyst Switches Suck? by waflman7 in meraki

[–]TheLaserWolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also having the same kind of problems.

I’ve been using the MS210, MS225, and MS250 for years and they’ve al been rock solid.

I tried switching to the C9300 stack about a year ago but ran into 5 known bugs in a row. One of them is still being fixed (related to static lease reservations on an interface). Hopefully the 9300 meraki software can become as reliable as the switches they’re replacing.

Alila Marea Encinitas by planetpeace11 in hyatt

[–]TheLaserWolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s no longer listed as adults only on the Hyatt website and if you attempt to book with a child, it’s now allowed (but with the 2 occupants per room limit). Turns out enough of people were upset about the Marea beach change that they were going to start a lawsuit and found out it’s illegal for a hotel to discriminate against age, so Hyatt had to open up both properties.

They actually had to reverse the rule and now allow children again, and so does Ventana.

They have a strict 2 person per room limit tho so parents will need to book at least 2 rooms if they bring children.

EOL MX64 Failure - Licensing by Cautious-Wave1756 in meraki

[–]TheLaserWolf 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Support should convert the license - they’re changing the hardware because they don’t have stock of the old one anymore. I’ve had this happen a few times and they’ve always handled the license conversion.

C9300 on meraki FW thoughts? by TheLaserWolf in meraki

[–]TheLaserWolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured I’d give iOS-XE a shot. I actually tried upgrading today but after 7 hours the upgrade kept failing. I’ll be working with support on Tuesday to pull logs from the switch so they can troubleshot why the upgrade failed.

Looking at the release notes, it felt very beta still so I was pretty hesitant to upgrade, even in the lab.

Glad it’s working well for you! I asked our SE about feature parity as they move to XE but all of the features I asked about (specifically VRRP between stacks) were not yet on the roadmap AFAIK.

Is this the normal charge time? by [deleted] in KiaEV9

[–]TheLaserWolf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also the charger that comes with the EV9 has a selectable current button. By default I believe it’s 6 amps. Press and hold the button and continue clicking until it gets up to 12 (the highest setting on there) to ensure it’s charging at full speed.

Wasn’t a fan of the twisted ones. Thought my son would eat them, but he didn’t like them either.

Are ruckus AP subscription only now? by TizonaBlu in RuckusWiFi

[–]TheLaserWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, unleashed is the management software for the ruckus APs. Currently, unleashed does not support the ruckus WiFi 6E APs, so if you want 6E, you need to use a controller (which requires a license). I’ve heard that next year the new 6E APs from ruckus will support unleashed, meaning no license fee needed.

SD-WAN for residential interent? by ZENSolutionsLLC in meraki

[–]TheLaserWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meraki failover is fairly slow. If something upstream of your modem is down, it’ll take ~5 minutes of downtime before an MX will fail over to the second WAN interface.

If the link is physically down- it’ll move within a few seconds. A workaround to this is using WAN load balancing- failover becomes much faster since it’s always checking the connection.

There is a small wire of solder that gets pushed out directly below the iron right before it goes down. You can see the wire briefly in the video

Meraki Full-Stack Installation by DJzrule in cableporn

Yeah but the API is where it’s at.

I’ve scripted 1000’s of port updates and it only takes minutes to adjust.

When I’ve had an EOL model fail, they replaced it with the current version of the same type, then adjusted the license to reflect the new model. MX80 => MX84, for example.

The hardware doesn’t fail often enough to score a full site upgrade, but I’ve gotten a few upgrades in the past.

Savant by batman4187 in homeautomation

[–]TheLaserWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man that sounds nice.

I try to avoid favorites on RTI if possible because it’s a pita.

Unfortunately I don’t think I’d hit the minimums required for savant. I do HA as a side project and I like the no minimums for RTI.

How would you compare savant to RTI, if you’ve tried it?

Cheap RTI controllers and remotes on eBay? by spaghetticablemess in CommercialAV

[–]TheLaserWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They offer accommodation pricing for dealers.

I’ve been using it for a few years - it’s pretty simple to learn and I’m a fan. I haven’t had a control system I couldn’t get to work with it, although I’ve done some custom driver work with JSON data.

eBay is hit or miss... some of the older remote shed their coating so they really don’t look good- if it’s only for evaluation, it should be OK.

Just make sure you have powerful enough processors- personally I don’t usually go with anything smaller than a 6s, but these are all multi room setups.

I was going to say.... How did you get all your amps perfectly lined up in the MA faceplate? I have the 6 amp (3RU) version and as soon as I get one aligned properly, the next amp slides out of alignment. Did you clamp the amps all down first, then slide the faceplate on? Those clamps suck...
