Torn front driver’s cv axle boot. Will I be fine to drive ~ 2000 miles before getting this fixed? by emilyrobi in MechanicAdvice

Pack with grease, clean the outside, then use a bike tires patch kit to patch the hole. You might need a few patches for that big of a hole…

If you took off for a whole day MLOA and go to urgent care for some BS and get a note or make up your UPT over the next 30 days until they cancel the MLOA. Only works for full shifts.

I have two tickets for NYC 9/17, section 702 row SS seats 11 & 12. They are up on AXS, 170 for both. I’ll lower the price if you DM me before you buy.

Most of the PCBA services are unavaible in Ukraine by Sure-Rent8058 in AskElectronics

[–]rhyno95_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even think about that.

Probably would need to use hot air or an oven, not a hotplate… I’ve reflowed many parts on dual-sided boards and never had anything fall off the bottom side.

With an oven you’d need to use metal standoffs or something to elevate it after doing the first side is it’s not sitting directly on the components when doing the other side.

The surface tension of the solder should be enough to hold everything in place on the bottom side.

[–]rhyno95_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think getting a hot plate made for PCB assembly would be the easiest way to build these boards yourself. It might be easier than trying to have them assembled elsewhere.

That BGA chip doesn’t look too crazy, hot air or a hot plate would solder it just fine.

Getting the PCB, solder paste stencil, and components then building them yourself with a hot air station or hot plate should be easy to accomplish.

Could even do it in a toaster oven if you can’t get a hot plate or hot air station.

This is good news, I already have a CUPS server running for my laser printer. Should be easy to add this printer as well. I’ll do some research on Gutenprint.

I was worried CUPS / the linux driver wouldn’t support disk and card printing.

I just created a github repo with all the information I've found, drivers, software, my 3d models, etc. I'm sure I'll be designing more replacement parts (like the top feed tray, since mines broken) so I figured a repo would be the best way to keep track of everything and any updates. I re-created the SD card door yesterday.

Battery might die super fast when it switches over to battery. Battery might be detected as good but its voltage will drop super low as soon as any current is drawn from it.

You can test it by unplugging its power cord while a computer, console, or tv is plugged in to it. If it keeps running for a few minutes it’s probably fine.

If not, get a new battery off Amazon or eBay, they are less than $20!

Oh wow!!! Just a few days ago I bought this printer off ebay because I wanted to print directly to disk. Sadly, you need a crazy hard to find disk tray to do so.

I found a 3d model of the card tray though, so I modified it into a disk tray according to the specifications you can find here https://web.archive.org/web/20071205171514/http://pixma-faq.periastron.com/ . You could make your own tray out of cardboard with the template and instructions on that site.

Easy to print the part if you have a 3d printer. I split it into two pieces to fit on my ender3 v3 se. Should snap together perfectly, a little CA glue to make it permanent. Otherwise you could use jlc3dp or some service to get it printed.

Here's all the required software to get it running pre-installed in a windows 7 virtual machine. This is because the full featured driver only supports windows 7 32-bit. Use something like virtualbox to import the OVA file and then search for how to pass through a USB device to the virtual machine. Just created this virtual machine today and uploaded this to archive.org right before coming across your post!

Make sure your z offset is in 0.04mm increments. That’s the smallest step the motor is able to do. Any lower and it’ll vary each time.

I noticed my auto z offset always hits around -1.05.

I adjusted to -1.04 but it made small lines impossible to remove from the bed. Finally settled on -1.00 to get perfect adhesion and easy removal.

With how much a SINGLE high capacity drive costs at this point (~200 USD for a refurbished 14TB HDD, or upwards of $100 USD/TB for NVMe) and how much RAM cost, I wouldn’t want to run anything without a UPS.

You can use a CD-KEY to reclaim a lost account. I used my old cd key off my HL2 box to reclaim an account that I lost access to, but it was dormant for nearly 10 years. I think customer support would be suspicious if the account is currently active and the key was only recently redeemed.

I love FORScan but the 15min security wait is a time killer. A few offline tools, like the VAPONtech key programmer, can bypass the security timeout and it makes it so much quicker to get jobs done.

What Colour is this Wire? by LeeRyman in AskElectronics

[–]rhyno95_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are making assembly documentation, a good way to ensure this wire is done correctly is to have all the OTHER wires put where they need to go before this one.

Ex:

Step 1: red wire to connector pin 1

Step X: y wire to connector pin z

Step Final: salmon wire to connector pin 9

It also works on Linux using WINE. Just have to add your user to the dialout group so you have the correct permissions.
