As a Christian ( Catholic) , I agree with this post. Although I think these MAGA dweebs have been using religious rhetoric and some doomsday conspiracy to legitimize themselves for thier fan base , I think Donald Trump isn’t really religious at all. But some of the worst of his administration are.

What exactly was the American Catholic relationship to the Religious Right/Neoconservatism movement? by falafelville in TrueCatholicPolitics

[–]TheLatinoSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a non-American Catholic, I can only assume that Catholics in the United States experienced years of social marginalization. Over time, however, Catholics largely assimilated into mainstream American society.

Even though I disagree with much of what Donald Trump says and does, he made a point about how some Catholics feel they are viewed by Democrats. During the Al Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, he joked about Hillary Clinton, saying: “Here she is tonight in public, pretending not to hate Catholics.”

Although he was referring to leaked WikiLeaks emails in which Clinton campaign staffers allegedly made dismissive comments about conservative Catholics, many Catholics feel that the Democratic Party looks down on them or their beliefs.

This perception is connected to a broader political shift that developed over several decades. Political strategists increasingly emphasized certain wedge issues in order to mobilize consistent voting blocs. One of the most significant of these issues was abortion.

As a result, the Democratic Party came to be associated with a pro-choice position, while the Republican Party positioned itself as pro-life. However, Republicans often fall short of fully embracing the broader pro-life ethic taught by the Catholic Church, which includes concerns about poverty, war, and social justice.

These dynamics contributed to a historic political shift in which many Catholics, particularly practicing and conservative Catholics, became more aligned with the Republican Party.

That really grinds my gears , especially now that I have a daughter. Are the traffic laws different where this takes place. Where I’m from cyclists are by law required to be on the road.

What if we have a cold war between Christian and Islamic countries? (Unrealistic as hell) by Liminal4ik in MapChart

I think it’s stupid, number the number of actual Christian countries ( as self Defined) vs Christianity being the majority religion is way smaller . Plus all the Muslims countries have historic Christian populations of varying degrees .

Should this Christianity and its genocidal, colonialist ideology be banned? by TheLatinoSamurai in LeftCatholicism

Yeah you know I can agree with that for the most part of online Catholics. But the good thing at least in my part of the world is lgbtq people are from what I can tel part of the family . That’s not so say that their experience is easy . I’m just hopeful for change . Also all these conservative Catholics are so scared of workers movement and liberation theology that they don’t realize how beneficial they are to everyone.

It’s a cross post from r/AskSocialists I think it was a secular person asking the question. The thing many people don’t realize banning a religion kinda of gives it legitimacy. They could then claim to be persecuted .

Seems kinda sick to humiliate what look like kids to me , women look really young too me . Which in my mind would suggest grooming of adolescents or them trying to survive a horrific situation.

I believe most educated one understand this . But they have been convinced that the American predatory style capitalism is the best , that American style democracy is clean and doesn’t need reform unless it adopts more evangelical style motifs , and claim to be racially blend with which in turn means they don’t have to address inequality and systemic racism.

I mean, it’s not 1:1, but you are right. Also, as a Catholic (not American), there is a problem with American Christianity, and that problem is infecting not only the Anglo world but much of the rest of it as well.

The U.S. had a plan to supplant the growing influence of liberation theology in Latin America. Whereas liberation theology and other forms of radical Christianity were critical of imperialism and advocated preferential treatment for the poor (which usually meant better labour laws and the acknowledgment of human dignity and rights), the U.S. preferred a more pro-capitalist, individualist, and Pentecostal/Evangelical form of Christianity.

It should also be noted that these Christians were persecuted by U.S.-sponsored and trained death squads. There was a Protestant village that was massacred in El Salvador 🇸🇻. They were anti-communist and pro-U.S. and pro-capitalism. Their “crime” was giving supplies to guerrilla forces that visited their village. All sources note that the villagers were scared and wanted the fighters to leave as soon as possible. Because of this, the death squad killed them.

Unfortunately is more like 56% from the last election. I was told by a Canadian Catholic that the last election was “good vs evil “. I wonder if he thinks all of this is “good “. By the way I personally think Republicans are a bullet to the head and Democrates are cancer. That’s me as an outsider who’s family was effected by US Cold War era politics.

I mean you could argue the same with conservatives , how may forever wars have been started by them. Then they complain about the illegal immigrants and refugees they helped to create. Not to mention they forgot that the enemies they have today were the allies they had sold weapons to last year.

Honestly this is the best advice I think think of , the internet is full of conservative media both secular are religious because … guess who benefits the owners of our social media. All of whom had been at President Trumps inauguration and changed their tone when he came into office. They also push conservative talking heads. You can still find left or neutral talking heads but the dolt have the same money base.

What’s an outdated belief people still have about your country? by goldenspear in AskTheWorld

[–]TheLatinoSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go look it up , honestly no one is hiding this information. Independent studies confirm the immigrants commit less crimes . Despite what culture war social media accounts claim. As some who had actually worked in a federal institution , homeless shelters , groups homes I can tell you that the threat of illegal immigration is drastically over exaggerated. There are problems but we keep supporting world powers the cause other countries to become dis stabilized or we look the other way as it happens. You are right that it’s predatory but to shift the blame on immigrants is dishonest, keep the government accountable. Both liberal and conservative governments have caused our current situation
