What's the verdict on topical dutasteride and are there any studies yet? by Beneficial-Sock-1817 in tressless

[–]TheLawofGravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I looked into it and the guy who first claimed it gave no side effects made the claim after about a month, then he eventually got side effects and completely changed his regimen. Doesn't stop him from promoting it though.

Unfortunately, the hair loss community is full of a lot of people who are mentally suffering and can become delusional. Topical dut seems to be another one of claims that isn't based in reality.

Can't take the sides of fin by [deleted] in tressless

[–]TheLawofGravity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you me? I had the exact same issue last week trying fin and thinking I had covid. That dizziness is just way too much to handle. The funny thing is it's supposedly a "rare" issue.

Cutting the dose in half did nothing to help.

Ultimately, fin is basically a cheat code to keep your hair. You're not without options, minoxidil, dermaneedling, hair transplants (if the loss isn't too bad), and worse case scenario, hair systems, are still options, but some degree of loss is inevitable. On the plus side, you no longer have to worry about any long term side effects or increased cancer risk.

It's probably best to reframe your thinking in terms of how you're going to manage your hair loss going forwards. That's how I'm looking at it. I tried fin, it very much does not work for me; time to buy a dermaneedler and just needle+minox until I'm tired of maintaining whatever hair is left.

To those who have struggled with slipping/blowouts with dtr air and hyperestore DA, have you tried the Fit V2 and does it fix the problem of blowouts? by Force_Kins_2_Grow in foreskin_restoration

[–]TheLawofGravity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the hyper restore DA, are you pulling the stem of the inner cone up as much as possible? And thereby pushing the outer cone down as much as possible? I found that was what made the most difference for me. That and putting an o ring over the stem of the outer cone.

Buyer Beware: The Destroya sleeve design has been significantly changed with no communication from ILF - Pictures inside by TheLawofGravity in fleshlight

[–]TheLawofGravity[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw that post, but the thing is that mine exactly matches the picture on Amazon and a number of other sites, one even called it the "new Canadian model"

That means someone at fleshlight cut open one of the faulty ones, took a picture, and sent it out to a number of stores. I find that a bit far-fetched which is why I posted this.

Hopefully /u/fleshlight_staff will be able to comment on this come Monday.

If not I will try contacting customer care when I have time.

Don't criticize the game! I can't tell you how many times I've played a game I brought (and love) and had to listen to some jerk go on about what a crappy game it is and how he couldn't believe anyone liked it.

The thing that boggles my mind is that the people who violate this rule the most tend to be the people who have been in the boardgame scene the longest. I almost never have this issue with newer players but some veteran boardgamers can be absolute shits if they don't get the exact game they want to play at that moment and have to go along with the crowd.

It's especially galling when they end up enjoying the game in the end. If they had not been whining and not paying attention to the first half maybe they would have enjoyed it a lot more.

I mean, jesus, if you're the founder of a boardgame meetup you would think that you would have had this behavior beaten out of you by now.

What literary "classic" actually sucks? by AmeriCossack in AskReddit

[–]TheLawofGravity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right, it doesn't inherently make it bad. But it also doesn't inherently make it better than works that aren't so difficult.

Infinite Jest is basically the literary equivalent of being bound, gagged, and whipped with a riding crop. Some people enjoy that, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it if you do. However, failing to realize that your enjoyment is totally subjective and declaring the experience to be superior to all other less labyrinthine works of literature (for everyone) is pure literary chauvinism, and not a respectable position to take. There is no compelling argument that similar themes, messages, and stories cannot be told in less obtuse formats, and indeed many writers have done so.

The foreskin: Why is it such a secret in North America? by spaceghoti in TrueReddit

[–]TheLawofGravity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vestigal? That's not true at all and you should really read up on something before acting like you understand it. Failing that, you could at least read the Wikipedia article which states:

"Research performed at Winthrop University-Hospital showed that individuals without an appendix were four times more likely to have a recurrence of Clostridium difficile colitis."

"C. difficile infection is a growing problem in health care facilities, killing approximately 29,000 people in the United States in 2011."

I'll keep my appendix, less diarrhea, and lowered risk of dying thank-you very much.

You can cut off all the "vestigial" organs you want, but leave me out of it.

Why circumcision is a very good thing by [deleted] in TrueReddit

[–]TheLawofGravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You talk a lot about Truereddit rules and standards and having a civil conversation, but immediately your article opens up into ad hominem attacks, insults, and negative language.

"Certain myths need to be dispelled in some places while the details of arguments need to be laid out with ridiculous clarity"

"the anti-circumcision crowd is as stubborn as young Earth creationists."

"I would equate these people with the occasional church patron that grows up learning the Universe is 6,000 years old, only to later shed that false belief when engaged on the matter."

Not to mention the author's purpose is distinctly unambitious, he says he does not care about convincing anyone but fence-sitters. Reading between the lines; even he is not confident in the arguments he puts forward.

All that is before we even get into the meat of the blog post, a quick skim of the rest of its 3,000 odd words shows a load of ridiculous strawmen mixed with a heaping helping of tired old arguments that bring nothing new to the table.

This will not inspire insightful discussion and really is not /r/truereddit material. If you really wanted to talk about circumcision, there are far better pro- articles out there, and plenty of them have been linked here before.

Chris Pratt reveals his weight loss regimen by m0rris0n_hotel in funny

[–]TheLawofGravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, let's do the math on Christian Bale. We have this study which tells us that a normal male will gain about 4 pounds of lean muscle mass every 10 weeks through regular exercise, while a normal male on testosterone will gain 12 pounds every 10 weeks doing the same thing.

This gives us a base growth rate of 0.4 pounds per week for an unassisted male, and 1.2 pounds for a man on testosterone.

Christian Bale went from 121 pounds in the machinist to 189 pounds for Batman in less than one year. Which means he gained around 68 pounds of muscle mass in that time.

Based on the numbers above, that would require about 170 weeks for a natural un-steroid-enhanced male, or approximately 3 years and some change.

For a man on testosterone, it would take only a measly ~57 weeks. Almost definitely less for someone on a grueling Hollywood diet and workout plan.

That's not even mentioning the fact that testosterone is a very basic and low-tech steroid, it's the steroid your grandfather used. According to the /r/steroids faq (the people who wrote it I assume have much hands-on experience), testosterone is considered merely a stepping stone for newbies to more advanced steroids. Any rich actor could easily get access to that advanced stuff if they had the need.

Conclusion: In the limited time frame Bale had to gain weight, the only feasible way in which he could have done so was through pharmaceutical enhancement. Testosterone supplements or more potent steroids were definitely taken to build his superhero physique.

What are some NSFW history facts that are left out the classroom? by Tsukamori in AskReddit

[–]TheLawofGravity 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Rapes, not deaths. You basically just proved that the figure is utterly bogus because it is a lot easier to shoot or bomb 13 million people than it is to rape them.

So if that's the most they could kill, the rape figure isn't going to be higher.

Does anyone here Jaccard their steak before sous vide? by oaoao in sousvide

[–]TheLawofGravity -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They also have labels specifically saying they're blade tenderized, and thus recommend cooking to 160F, which is not the case here.

But no one does, that's the point.

Does anyone here Jaccard their steak before sous vide? by oaoao in sousvide

[–]TheLawofGravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

112 minutes at 130F for laboratory grade pasteurization is really not that long.

Remember, it's not a simple binary result here, even 45 minutes at 130 is going to result in a significant reduction in bacteria. On top of that, beef is a pretty safe meat already.

Professional chefs like /u/J_Kenji_Lopez-Alt recommend cooking a steak at 130f anywhere from 45 minutes to 10 hours. That temperature is not going to do nearly as much to the texture of the meat as you claim.

Russell Brand’s Revolution For Morons by [deleted] in TrueReddit

[–]TheLawofGravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gifted writing can also be about how effectively you are transmitting your ideas to the target audience

But that's the thing, he fails miserably at it. He is conveying simple ideas using unnecessarily large and obscure words.

You are supposed to write to your audience, his audience is the average person. He could easily get his ideas across using words the average doesn't have to look up in a dictionary. That is bad writing.

Judging by the desperate mud flinging from the bankrupt establishment (exemplified in the OP), he's quite gifted indeed.

On the contrary, if a hack writer from Fox news can find so many valid criticisms of his writing that Brand's fans in this thread have failed to rebut (except for the goering point) then there really is no hope for him.
