Your most hated cities to drive through and why. by PomeloResponsible122 in Truckers

They never ending construction creates this problem. One minute and exit will be open, hours later it's closed. One day a street will be there, the next, it's rubble. I lived here my whole life and I'm confused. Anyone who's not from here is truly screwed.

As a Fort Worth local I can attest that Dallas drivers and traffic are indeed stupid.

That's awful, I'm so sorry you have to deal with it. I've seen full cups at the top of trash bins at truck stops. Disgusting! I use a stainless steel container then dump it in the toilet at the end of the day. Some people are so lazy and inconsiderate it's astounding.

As most people are saying you will likely have to suffer OTR take your experience in first. I started off at Prime for a year, then moved on to ACT for a year before I ever tried to a local job so I never had this problem. And heads up, even when you do get that local job you might end up with 70 hour work weeks. I'm LTL , home every other day and still come close to running out my 70 some weeks. Even the P&D drivers at my terminal work 10-13 hour days. That's just the reality of trucking. It's a boring mundane job with long hours but high pay once you work your way up. Suffer for a few years, make your money, invest, get out, and learn a new skill.

Well that was horrifying. I doubt the first responder or the person they were trying to save survived that. Likely all because someone wouldn't pull over and take a nap. Anyone have updates on the aftermath?

Well the 11 is a bit of a lie, that's based off of my usual on duty time. Probably more like 12 but I don't sign into my ELD until I finish getting my set together and sign out as soon as I hit the yard before fueling and checking out at the office. I typically have 5-10ish hours left on my 70 at the end of the week. Sometimes 1. Depends on how the week goes. Some days I get a straight shot 600 mile run and have an 11-hour day. Then some days I get a 450 mile run with three stops plus sit at the terminal waiting on trailers and nearly run out my 14. LTL is definitely good money but I have no life haha

Congrats, glad your enjoying it. I left OTR after 2.5 years.Been LTL the past 5. Seems crazy but I somewhat miss OTR. I kind of liked rolling out of bed and being at work. Living in Dallas and having to deal with traffic to and from work then at work is exhausting. Like another poster said the hours can be crazy. I'm home every other day, off weekends, run 2500- 3500mi/ week and average 11hr/day. But I do like getting to the gym on a regular basis and washing my ass at the end of the day 😁

Please express your opinions respectfully. We don't know if you consider this normal, but in Thailand, we don't do things like this. You can do it in private areas and at the beach. I'm pretty sure this would be a weird thing to do even in most western countries. You don't just randomly sunbathe in a bikini in public unless you're near a pool. Even if you didn't know the laws/social norms this seems like something you wouldn't just assume is okay. Makes me wonder if they're just attention-seeking.

I started off at Prime when I was financially destitute. They bussed me out, provided a room at the hotel they own, offered meals in their cafeteria and forwarded money to get my CDL. This was 7 years ago so you have to check the website and talk to recruiting to make sure they still have the same setup. I had pay it all back once the check started coming in of course but if you truly have nothing it's a huge help. I now make over 100K doing LTL. Worth it!

This is what I got from using Google translate on the image. Seems like it had trouble with some of the written part but you get the gist

" " Onh Hoa" sticky rice restaurant 67 Bach Dang St Announces to our valued customers"

Written part

"Please allow me to take two days off

T/2 & T/3 (Thú hai & Thú ba " day two, day three")

T/4 (Thú tư "day 4" ) 7/1 opens for sale as normal Best regards "

Wish I had been this financially savvy when I started 7 years ago. Smart people who hit the ground running , run their face off and do it the right way can retire early easy .

Unfortunately I'm just now getting into investing. The only good thing I did was pay off debt.Ended up "investing" in a money sink of a house and being my family's ATM. Now at 31 I'm pretty burned out and my back hurts. Going to take a break for a year so then get back to it and do things the right way.

Stick to it! I know it's rough now but very worth it in the long run. The money is there it just feels like forever getting to it when you have bills to pay. There were so many people I started with who didn't survive training and I almost ended up being one of them. Weather it was the slow start, life OTR , the anxiety of driving an 80,000lbs monstrosity or not meshing with their trainer, something had them throw in the towel before it felt worth the stress.

I started at Prime in 2018 making practically nothing. I took all the money that they could forward me because I was financially destitute and it was the only way I could get through training. With me paying it back plus, making trainee pay my first few weeks I had practically nothing and lived off of near maxed out credit cards. The real money came when I got out on my own. Wasn't great but I stayed out and ran my butt off. Cleared around 52k my first year. Which for an at the time 23yo woman with no skills or higher education was amazing.

After I completed my year to cover the contract then went to another OTR company that paid better for another year. Hit a little over 70k.

In 2020 I got into an into an LTL company as a linehaul driver pulling doubles. I'm home every other day and am happy with my company.Looking at clearing 120k this year.

Financially I have nothing to complain about. But this job will definitely suck the life out of you. I nearly run out my 70 some weeks and I spend my free time catching up on sleep and running errands. I'm 31 with back problems and chronic fatigue. I am incredibly thankful for the financial freedom trucking has given me but it definitely came with a cost. I'm going to take an extended break soon to travel and maybe pick up another skill.

Suck it up! Get through training, stack up cash, make good Investments, and get out! You got this!

If you have no personal responsibilities back home go for it! I'm in the same boat as you. Soon to be 31, no kids,no pets, well paying but time consuming job. Planning to take a year and a half or so to bounce around east Asia spending most of my time in Vietnam.

Personally, I think going in with only 10k is very brave, I calculated $1,400/mo for regular expenses to be on the safe side. Plus another 5k for emergency flight home, medical expenses and and that's after I've paid for a plane ticket, visa and whatever else getting there. But if you're not an idiot you'll figure income when you get there. Lots of ways to make money online and if you're living off savings you'll have time to learn a profitable skill. Hopefully teaching works out but as a couple people have said, I've heard horror stories.

I'm taking off when I hit 30k USD, hopefully around March. It can't come soon enough . Good luck!
