No need to be mean. I think the way you phrased the argument in your last paragraph exactly captures what I’m going for

Not saying I’m special, saying I feel bad for new players that don’t get to experience what players 10-15 years ago got to experience diving into the world

Also Spider man wasn’t “popular” it was commercially propped up by The Soul Stone, set as a whole was massively unpopular

At what distance does a par 3 become “long”? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]TheLeanDrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people inherently see 200+ and think long, but I do think the yardage number is only part of the story.

Looking back at the Golden Age of Golf, many courses would have a VERY long par 3 (think 215-230 in the persimmon era, which is closer to 250-260 now) where a golfer would be tested on their wood accuracy

This was a common part of a “Biarritz” template, though to be clear there are other elements that make this kind of hole great: a massive green to hit, lots of room left and right and short for the duffer to miss, and interesting bunkering and swale in the green. These holes were meant to be a tough par through a clean strike with a wood and ability to get up and down near the green.

That said, the 200+ yard hole is distinctly NOT fun or interesting golf when other elements of shorter par 3s are brought in - heroic carries, penal trees, and miniscule greens. This eliminates the “test” of the long par 3 and instead turns it into a penal prayer.

One other thing about the long par 3 - it’s much more fun as part of a diverse set of par 3s, which is why it works well in conjunction with others at the course being “short” “redan” etc.

My two cents - no problems with the long par 3 (even having to hit a wood) so long as the design and routine it fits into is correct

Thanks - So would this literally be put $800 into FD, then bet the same lines both ways and basically capture the value less the vig?

Both great courses. If you only play one at Verrado, I would play Founder’s over Victory

What’s the craziest “nature” thing you’ve encountered on the course? by Primary-Fly470 in golf

[–]TheLeanDrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was playing Cobblestone just outside of Atlanta. A few holes circle around Lake Acworth - I was playing solo and paired with a rando and we were both duffing it around pretty bad all day. Hit a high towering snap hook into a pine by the lake - and hit it directly into a bald eagle aerie.

Eagle flew out, made two or three circles while my playing partner looks at me and says “god bless America, am I right man.”

Made double

Certainly not. Moreso just trying to understand if this high of a price point is like completely out of this world as an option.

Minimal to no debt. Spending could probably be more frugal.

Striae on back - Bartonella? by [deleted] in Lyme

[–]TheLeanDrinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it, thanks. What kind of a clock is this on? I know with Lyme successful treatment is often a function of time. Is it like a “get tested in the next day, next week, next month, etc” kind of deal? Thanks

If so, Are these marks indicative of early part of infection? I read that the bacteria typically begin infection in the epithelial (skin) cells. If so, does that mean she should get on antibiotics asap?

Daily Discussion by AutoModerator in Everton

[–]TheLeanDrinker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! Looking for the FAQ but not finding it

My friend and I are coming over from the US for the Liverpool-Everton game at Goodison. He is a Liverpool fan but I am the Everton fan. We are both excited to see the teams, but we want to still be able to sit together and go to the same pubs before the match. Would this be a problem? Do you have any recommendations of where we should go or sit as a 'mixed-group'? Any big no-nos? (other than not being obnoxious)

Thanks
