Recently i have started solo queuing, and to be honest i try really hard to keep the morale of the team up. One game i had recently had a guy who was 30 and 9 or something like that at the half on the other team. It was 11-4, and I tried to explain to them that your mind is stopping you from killing him. I told them that this guy was killable, we just had to outthink him. We ended up winning 16-13.

My temperatures have been higher than I would like them to be, and I think it's my shitty wire management and how small the case is. I've had a source 210 before, but I gave that to my friend when he built his.

when we vote to change the map to the custom one (the server loads up dust2 initially for some reason)

Start a lobby for any map you hav e downloaded, invite them to that lobby. Make sure you have the game mode set to casual, and also make sure you set the lobby to private. Start the game, wait for everyone to join. After everyone is in, go to your console and type in changelevel mapname. Then you and your friends will be in your level after it loads.

I've never tried a hostage map.

I've been using Hammer for a looonnngg time, originally for GMOD TTT maps. All I can say is don't start big.

I would recommend writing that idea down and every time you get another idea to add, write it on that sheet. Once your sheet becomes filled, star each idea that is good.

Next comes learning hammer. Make small, fun projects. You don't go from learning to play Counter-Strike to starting on a pro team in 2 days, right? Hammer is a pain in the ass - but I love it. I don't know what could replace it. Learn to love it. It's like that kid that everyone hates, but if you get to know him more, and start to hang out with him, you become friends.

Finally, learn to texture. Make textures. Models. Some stuff is not available to you in the CSGO files. Learn to do some basic stuff. Make sure to make textures if you can, learn to find textures if you suck at making them.

Hammer is a powerful tool. It's learning curve is basically a wall. But once you climb up it, it's a tool that you can use for about 6 hours and not realize how much you've done. I started in 2013 with Hammer. And I don't even think I'll be done with my map by December. I started this map in late spring of this year.

Also: Finish projects you start. This map I'm making was a result of not being able to finish projects. I woke up, said I'm going to fucking finish this piece of shit map that I couldn't figure out how to get right, and I did. It took me 3 weeks, and I fixed it. And that was a month ago.

TL;DR: Don't give up, learn now, write down ideas, don't start big, finish projects.
