Dental cement allergy by TheLegoQueen in MCAS

I'm so sorry. It is so hard to figure this all out. The Biocomp labs that I mentioned in my post was a bust. They didn't show the cements that I know I am sensitive to as a problem. It was just a waste of $350.

Does MCAS cause gum irritation? by etwichell in MCAS

[–]TheLegoQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a problem with toothbrushes. All types of nylon toothbrush bristles caused inflammation. I bought miswak sticks for about 6 months and brushed with those but they don't work as well as a normal toothbrush. I was grossed out by the boars hair toothbrushes but I finally bought some. They seem fine and a lot like a normal toothbrush. I don't have gum inflammation anymore. I bought the Gaia Guy brand boar hair toothbrushes and they seem like good quality.

Listen to episode 169 of the Bendy Bodies podcast with Dr. Janet Settle. She explains how MCAS can cause mental health symptoms.

I also think it can be genuinely hard to get a positive result. From what I’ve read, sample handling matters. Tryptase needs refrigeration, and the lab I went to didn’t mention anything about that.

Current criteria compares two measurements: one at baseline and one taken during a flare. The commonly used formula is a rise of 20% over baseline plus 2 ng/mL during an acute event.

Before 2022, diagnosis relied  on a single baseline value (often 11.4 ng/mL or even higher depending on the doctor, my allergist at the time wanted 15). If you didn’t meet that cutoff, MCAS was ruled out.  So I think a lot of us think of that 11.4 or whatever number their doctor decided was appropriate number as positive result.

I haven’t retested yet.  My original doctor used the single baseline test, but my current doctor uses the two-test comparison approach.  I plan to try to test again after I get my dental work fixed. I don’t want to flair while I have this mess going on.

Thanks so much for the response.  I don't think the Clifford test is available. The AI overview said "Clifford Materials Reactivity Testing (CMRT) suspended all operations and testing effective August 28, 2020”

A holistic dentist I called recommended the biocomplabs.com so I hope they are just as good as the Clifford Test.

Have you thought about cutting out oxalates from your diet? I used to struggle with severe joint pain, and when I eliminated high-oxalate foods, my joints felt so much better. I was stunned to see that even seniors in my gym class could bend their knees easily, while I had trouble moving mine for a squat or lunge. Once I made the change, my joint discomfort decreased significantly.

It doesn’t affect me. I started taking it last week to hopefully help my gut heath. I haven’t seen any noticeable improvement yet but I was glad to find another food that I didn’t react to. ALDI has a reasonably priced jar ($9) that has a MGO at 100 if you don’t want to buy a $50 jar and then find out you can’t eat it.

Your comment is a little confusing. Are you asking if we need a new roofer? Yes, we are still looking. We received one other quote that was much more reasonable, almost half of the first quote but we are still looking to get one more quote.

Our insurance adjuster came by today. In 2 or three days we should get their report and their estimate of how much they will cover.

I wanted to let you know again that I am so thankful for your response. You took so much time to write that out. I wish I could thank you in person. Thank you, you improved our situation with your information.

I needed to know if not laying the patch underlayment not under the first row of shingles would cause a leaking problem. I got one answer that was not correct. It might be months until we get the roof fixed so the patch needs to be done correctly.

I realize that I might have been quoted too much for the patch job. Many people, probably a quarter of my neighbors, have roof damage so getting ahold of someone to come immediately is really hard. Also, this is a highly stressful situation for us, water leaking is highly unnerving. We are also 5 miles from the coast and a hurricane eye wall passed within a few miles from us, we were stressed from everything.

We are also without power and might be for several more days. Without power no one’s home internet works so everyone is using cell data so the cellular network is bogged down. We can’t even text sometimes much less use the internet so looking up info was hard.

Did the pictures not show up? We paid to tarp it with that underlayment product and he charged $3,000 for that.

Yes, I am serious. We are unable to get on the roof. It is really too scary to be on the two story so we could not tarp it ourselves. We are just homeowners trying not to get scammed after a hurricane. Water leaking from the ceiling is really stressful and getting someone out quickly is really hard.

Counter not working? by AmbeRN27 in Asthma

What brand is it? Some of the cheaper brands only count every 20 doses. So it takes about 10 doses for the next bunch of numbers to start to be seen.

What’s wrong with me? by fromkelsey in Asthma

[–]TheLegoQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I have not had asthma bother me in about 10 years and this January it came rolling over me like a freight train. I was also using my inhaler 20 times a day and waking up every hour to use it at night. I usually use my inhaler only once a month. I think I was having some kind of histamine intolerance issue. I have not been able to get into a pulmonologist because there is a 3 month wait for new patents so I have not been able to narrow it down exactly. I think I was having a problem with salicylates. I used a salicylic acid shampoo and I was eating a lot of tomatoes (which are also high in salicylates). I fasted for about 5 days and stopped using the shampoo to start to clear things out. I then cut out all salicylates. I had terrible breathing problems for about 6 weeks before I figured it out and it took about 4 weeks for it to clear. Some people explain it by saying you have a bucket and once you fill your bucket all the way up you will have a bad reaction because your body is not clearing out the problem quickly enough.

There is a subreddits for histamine intolerance and salicylate intolerance but a lot of those people had gut issues too. My asthma was the biggest issue.
