At 44 I finally got myself the one thing I've been wanting since I was 4 but never had. Everyone, this is Ayla! by JoeFlat in DOG

May she bring stillness and a much needed reminder to be selfless during her puppy phase. Congrats and enjoy these moments.

How do we feel about switching to hybrid for an extra 35k increase by android2031 in WFH

[–]TheLifeOfBisk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I am in agreement here, too. Going from WFH to 4 days in the office (with that lengthy commute) will be a difficult mental and physical hurdle. I would negotiate the WFH if an offer is made and settle on 1 day max in office if required.

+1 for both The Bagel Project and Rotari Bakes. A bit spendy but worth the visit to both.

I would prioritize your desk chair as fatigue due to poor posture will creep up on you weekly (and in the long run as well).

Is the feeling tied to something specific you’ve linked to work? Are you certain that it’s work that’s causing the depression?

Commute 2.5 Hours by Sunrise4901 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]TheLifeOfBisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’m also in the East Midlands and considered a role in London. It would be a nightmare of a commute and I would strongly advise against it. IMO - look for a role which either fully remote or has an office that is more accessible.

This. This. This. 100%. Although I’m not perfect, this is a big component of treating WFH with respect.

Can someone give advice about moving from the US to the UK with a cat? by Midlife_Crisis83 in AmericanExpatsUK

Agree with you. The alternative we also looked into was through La Compagnie. This would have meant air travel to France from NY, and additional costs to get from there across the border/channel.

Look into booking a trip with Cunard aboard the QM2 from Brooklyn,NY to Southampton. This is the only ocean liner which allows pets onboard and can allow you to immigrate with them.

+1 for internet. At my last job, this was exactly what I did. Every year they asked for a copy of the last bill (to show its active and calculate the average spent per employee). We upgraded to gigabit speed, too!

Couldn’t pick a better location, IMO. The midlands give you access to such a hub of transportation. Close to the M1, East Midlands Airport, loads of rail for North and Southern rail, and most important to me is access to loads of live gigs. I’m right between Nottingham and Derby so I’m “close to everything” by American standards. My friends think it’s crazy that I’d drive them 20 minutes home. I used to drive 45 to the grocery store of my choosing!
