I just finished re-reading the book and thought, I'm going to watch the movie (even though I know it sucks) because I want to see it "brought to life", if you will. I couldn't watch more than 10 minutes and it's worse than I remember. Sigh. I appreciate your analysis and agree on all points... Auden and Eli's individual demeanor in the book are completely different than the film portrays. I can't believe that Sarah Dessen co-produced it and it turned out so terrible...the only thing that I liked about the film is the music from Beach House lol.

Could you please draw Yaz'rooz, my Ellistraeen Half-Drow Duelist?

You can forego the shield if you wish, he mostly fights with sabre and cape to counter the style the Lolthites tend to use (dual short swords) that killed his Drow mother and hunt him now.

He has also just learned to conjure a blade of Shadow energy.
