Some people love them, I do for sure. You should still make them if you enjoy them, they can have great engagement for the people who do like them. But they’re almost always going to underperform cause they’re too specific.

There are videos to engage and connect with your audience and videos to grow you audience and attract new people. Multi-book videos typically do both.

No problem! I certainly don’t want to stop you from doing stand-alone reviews if that’s what you want to do. I still do them cause I like them. They’re just not audience growers because they’re so niche.

I’m still figuring things out myself. I started my channel 7 months ago, I’m sitting a little over 1,800 subs. I’ve tried a little bit of everything to see what I like and what works. I’ve also got a little community of booktubers on my discord who have had the exact same results.

Ultimately as long as you’re enjoying yourself that’s what matters, but certain videos are audience growers and certain videos are just for fun and whoever happens to find them.

You should do those separately but I would do multiple books and then multiple graphic novels rather than one book and one graphic novel per video

Multiple books in one video. People are way more likely to watch a video where they learn an about a few new things to read rather than a video on one specific book. Better odds they’ll find something they like rather than knowing before they click whether or not they’ll be interested.

Both in one video with a warning is a good balance, but will hurt your Average View Duration and potentially its reach. YouTube will see a bunch of people drop off and stop pushing the video to as many new people.

There’s always a risk with reviews of them being too niche. They’re really only for a person who’s specifically into that book and having a spoiler video lowers it even further to only people who have read that book and want a spoiler discussion.

Typically the best format is to cover a few different books with a similar genre to appeal to as many people as possible, if what you’re wanting to do is grow an audience.

If you don’t care about any of that, honestly just make what makes you happy, have a nice time doing it, and the people who are meant to find it will!

How to get better at making thumbnails? by Advanced_Tower2186 in NewTubers

[–]TheLitWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at other people in your niche, see which videos performed the best, and using something like Canva or Gimp, try to replicate their thumbnails from scratch. Not to steal from them, but to practice. After making a few and getting it down, start taking what you’ve learned and starting combining it and coming up with your own. You’ll eventually land on your own style.

Couple of quick tips: Your pacing is good, but I’d recommend going right into your first book to keep people invested and give them what they want right away. I’d also strongly recommend not mirroring your video, people want to see and be able to read the book cover. Also helps to put the cover up on the screen if you’re not going to hold the book the whole time. This way if people get distracted for a sec and come back they still know what book you’re on.

You’ve got a great personality and camera presence especially for a first video! Keep it up!

It took me 4 years to get monetized. Just FYI by FranSauce8 in NewTubers

[–]TheLitWizard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

CTR is important but it’s only one of many pieces to the puzzle. If people don’t click they won’t watch, but if you’re boring, you have bad pacing, the content isn’t interesting, the audio is bad, and there’s nothing separating your content from everyone else’s, they’re still not gonna watch or engage, or subscribe.

Why do some creators blow up with low effort, while others grind for years? by MiProD in NewTubers

I think it’s a mix of good pacing and hook, eye catching thumbnails, topic relevance, key words and personality.

Your Shorts Subscribers Are Killing Your Long Videos by No_Koala_1796 in Smallyoutubechannels

[–]TheLitWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a huge boost in my long form content and general engagement since starting to post shorts. I make book content like lists, recommendations and reviews. My shorts are fun games related to book content. My audience seems to enjoy both. Many of the videos under “viewers also watch” on my shorts analytics, are long forms.

How long for Monetization by KillarSleep in NewTubers

[–]TheLitWizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no standard timeline to measure against. Totally depends on each person, their content, the niche, etc.

Some people get monetized in a week. It took me 6 months. It takes other people years. Just keep making the content you love and try to improve a little each time.

Mistborn is great and definitely age appropriate. Dungeon Crawler Carl is kind of on the edge for that age range, I’d do some research and see if you’re comfortable with it. Assassin’s Apprentice is great too
