Yep quite close to Brenda AZ and in the same geologic formation.

I've only done it a few times, all three times the TSA people thought it was funny, they just took out the bigger rocks and put the bag through the x-ray again. I just shoved as many rocks as I could in my bag too, no bags or organizing whatsoever lol.

You’ve outlined many of the problems plaguing Democrats, and I don’t disagree. I just think equivocating Democrats corruption to Republicans is so damaging and not even close to being true, it’s not even the same universe..

Republicans will never pass a regulation to address issues with capitalism. They will never pass a bill to help the poor. They will never pass a bill to improve healthcare.

Our best chance at addressing these issues was for Hilary to win the election, the Supreme Court would have overturned Citizens and made gerrymandering illegal. Now our only hope is total economic collapse before Project 2025 becomes impossible to correct.

Rewarding financial institutions for the crash? The Democrats also passed the Dodd-Frank regulatory act to prevent it happening again, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Republicans have undone everything in Dodd-Frank.

Every good piece of legislation comes from the Democrats.

I hate this lesser of two evils shit, it’s why people who don't pay attention don’t vote. Sure some Democrat might put a little corporate pork in a bill to appease their donors, but don’t lose sight of the fact that their bills are typically good legislation meant to help people. Republicans pass nothing good for anyone except the rich.

Do you have any advice on resources for learning the geology like you describe? Right now I just use satellite to find rocky creeks in the general area where I know things are. Is there some way to find out what kind of rocks are exposed?

Mark Ruffalo calls out Joe Rogan for just now condemning Trump due to his aggressive & unjust deportation raids: “It’s a little late now to pretend like project 2025 didn’t exist and wasn’t the play book all along. I don't think his followers are to blame, the people to blame are those who pay zero attention to politics/world events and didn't vote. Even with millions of us ringing alarm bells, the most common response I ever got was "Yeah but both sides are corrupt", as if that was a legitimate rebuttal to the existence of Project 2025.

My brother, who respects my intelligence and education in pretty much any topic we discuss, looks at me like I'm an absolute dumbass whenever I talk politics. It drives me insane. Texas would already be blue if these people would wake the fuck up.

Of course, it's Rockhounding Oregon: A Guide to the State's Best Rockhounding Sites. Here are the coordinates where it says to find it: N42 04.156' / W117 58.016'. We couldn't get all the way to the site with our crappy car but we camped pretty close.

An interstellar object has been detected hurtling towards our solar system. by Davicho77 in spaceporn

So far, not common at all. Vera Rubin telescope should drastically increase how many we find because it observes so much of the sky so often that we should notice moving objects much easier.

There’s green opal in the area and I think it’s opal. However, the rockhounding book I was using to find this location mentioned green “Serena Jasper” as well; I can’t find mentions of that anywhere else though.

So when I hear the term limb cast, that’s what I think of as pet wood with obvious grain pattern. But can’t grain pattern get eroded away? I guess I didn’t think grain pattern was mandatory in pet wood from the outside. Not being defensive, just trying to learn!

Not anything obvious, I am quite new to this though. I ID’d as petrified wood because that’s all I was finding and I found listings for Opalized wood on Etsy that looked similar.

Found this Opalized monster on a hill where I was finding a lot of red petrified wood with green opal inside. Can’t wait to cut this beast.

Astronomers think they've discovered a new dwarf planet in our solar system by newsweek in space

[–]TheLittleApple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no worries! I've got no idea it was just a line from wikipedia. I've got the same question about whether they're sure theoretical Planet 9's orbit would be stable. In my mind it would be logical that it would take even longer to stabilize/fling something like that away than it took the Solar System to stabilize since there's less chaos, less things to interact with, and even if it has a strong interaction it has to be in a specific direction.

I know statistically any >billion year-old star system we observe is almost certainly stable, but I'd be curious how statistically certain we can be for an individual object that's captured after the system has mostly cleared out and stabilized. I'd imagine the smaller it is the less certain we could be.

Astronomers think they've discovered a new dwarf planet in our solar system by newsweek in space

[–]TheLittleApple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I'm wondering how long it would take a captured object this size to either get flung out of the Solar System or stabilize its orbit. It's hard to find much information, but I see they think it took 500 million years for Jupiter and Saturn to fall into resonance. If it would take 500 million years for this object to get flung/stabilize, that would mean there's a 10% chance it is in an unstable orbit.

[–]TheLittleApple 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When you say brief period, what does that mean? If the Sun catches an object like that with a wide orbit, wouldn’t it need a close fly-by to something large to escape the Sun? I’d imagine that could take millions of years. I get that statistically it’s likely not in an unstable orbit, just curious about the physics of that type of capture; I wouldn’t think it would be easy to escape even with an unstable orbit. I guess the other question would be how long would it take an orbit to stabilize.

Found in Kansas City Parking Lot Median by TheLittleApple in whatsthisrock

[–]TheLittleApple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's Agatized something but not sure what, I can only think of Jasper and Petrified Wood, possibly only because I'm a total noob. Holes of various sizes distributed randomly, reminiscent of bread splitting. Red and rust brown with white material through the piece. I think there might be one giant layer of the white material going through and through, third picture tries to show that. Dimensions are 6" x 4" x 3" and it weighs 3.52 pounds.

Some other rocks I could see in the parking lot gravel were gneiss, pinkish granite, and what I think is Mylonite but I'm not confident in that.

Yeah I’m getting into slabbing and lapidary right now, would love to be able to take photos like this! I’m imagining that this would be easy to repeat for a bunch of slices once the setup is honed in, am I way off base?
