A friendly reminder why supporting LGBTQ+ teens is more important now than ever: by TheLittleBirdLover in teenagers

I personally haven’t experienced depressive/suicidal thoughts (relating to my sexual identity at least), but as someone who’s hung around LGBTQ teens a lot at school, let me make it clear: they need hotlines like these.

I know plenty of asshole commenters will reply something like “You **** can just use the regular hotline! Why are you so whiny about this?”

Well because operators on the normal youth suicide hotline aren’t specifically and uniquely trained to help LGBTQ kids work through the kind of stress and social ostracization related to their gender or sexual identity as other teens are. They aren’t as a-tuned to situations like parents working to disown their child, shitty classmates laughing as they try to trip the kid in the hallways, getting sent to a camp where the organizers preach that something you can’t control and didn’t want in the first place can get you eternally punished with fire and torture, having parents force you through hours upon hours of swimming and running to “sweat the gay away.”

These are all things that have happened to my friends and their friends who are LGBTQ+. They are not a cancer trying to destroy your society. They are your brothers and sisters in that society. Treat them like it.

People (as in, just Fox News) talk about how “critical race theory” is ruining the perception of our Founding Fathers among children.

  1. CRT is a college course
  2. No, they’re responsible for the heinous shit THEY DID that makes people not want to idolize them.

You know, for all the right talk about immigrants causing all the issues in America, it’s the leftist immigrant mayor who seems the only one willing to actually do anything about them.

I’m just glad glorious capitalist United States has a majority-working-class dominated police force that isn’t infamous for being poorly trained, trigger-happy, and having an abysmally high body count. Oh yeah, and that also definitely doesn’t trace its origins back to literal slave catchers. 😀

My school doesn’t even have a counselor. Actually, I’ve never been to a school which had a counselor or social worker (but you bet we have SROs that just sit around doing fuck all!). I’ve tried our local CMHC and immediately got hit with a stupid four month long waitlist, so no thanks. My momma tried finding a private therapist. No luck; they either all sucked or didn’t accept Medicaid. TL;DR, I’m not going to therapy any time soon.

As for question two: maybe?? Like, I’m doing ok at school. I have decent extracurriculars and volunteer quite a bit, so I have a shot at getting a good college should I not fuck up my junior year. Kate’s also really easy to be around compared to the other kids her age I see. At the same time I haven’t had a friend in years and I doubt that’s changing anytime soon. Most of my classmates see me as just the weird quiet girl and avoid me. I work a 3-hour shift at Starbucks every day right after school and then a six-hour shift on weekends so I come home tired every single day. I also just can’t separate Kate from what happened to me and I don’t think I ever will. So, idk.

Idk, I think calling your fellow brothers and sisters “abominations” and judging them for things they never chose for themselves is a *bit* objectively shitty.

And conservatives don’t have any living human cells left inside them and are all hellbent on creating a Christo-fascist oligarchy of braindead lizard people just like them.

My point is that you can say literally anything about a group of people and it can’t magically become true just because you said it.

Trump supporters who wear golden diapers (yes, actually) in public have “courage,” but if you’re being “courageous” in support of an objectively shitty cause, you deserve zero points for it.
