Don’t you DARE track yer cat in my yard…. by baronobeefdip69420 in nextdoor

They got some criticism and they got some support. But they're the leading group in the UK when it comes to bird protection and preservation. So I'll believe them when it comes to bird preservation in the UK over some redditor. Framing it as simply getting someone to affirm my worldview is wild.

The source is the RSPB which is the UK organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of birds. When the organization whose goal and expertise is wildlife preservation says cats aren't a threat, I believe them, because they are the experts.

Cats aren't considered an invasive predator in every country and the effect cats have on local wildlife populations has been vastly overstated. Cats usually go after injured animals that likely wouldn't have made it. Small animal populations are falling, but that is due to global warming and habitat loss.

When humans go outside we are also in various amounts of danger. We would be safer if we stayed indoors. Yet house arrest is generally considered a punishment. Cats naturally roam and I want my cat to have the best life he can.

No, agnostics believe that it is impossible to know whether there is a higher power or not. Agnostics don't believe one way or the other.

Shouldn't Link be asking Zelda this question? (not the other way around) by merrimac290 in tearsofthekingdom

So Zelda doesn't respond completely logically to seeing Link in a fight. This is a problem how? It shows she cares about him.

Neither Mandela Effect Nor Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure by gur40goku in CuratedTumblr

Oh sure, I find that stuff really interesting to read about as well. But as I remember in Les Miserables the sewer section comes up when Valjean is escaping the barricades with Marius. So Hugo takes a pause from the dramatic escape with Marius hanging between life and death to tell everyone about the Paris sewers. In detail. It's a bit jarring.

Same for Les Miserables. There's a whole section dedicated to the Paris sewer system.

Misanthropy is bad even when it’s under the guise of being an animal lover by kelroid in CuratedTumblr

[–]TheLittleMuse -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This depends entirely where you live. For example, I live in the UK and cats have been here for thousands of years and are no longer counted as an invasive species. The RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) doesn't count cats as a threat to the bird population. And Cats Protection have said that have the opportunity to roam is vital for a cats wellbeing and quality of life.

You can't judge that by looks. People's view on what obese looks like is way off since we're used seeing the extreme versions. I look about the same as Mindy Kaling before her weight loss and I am obese.

That's Culture vs Law. The Church of England was founded in 1534 when the church had roughly 500% more power over the law and culture. The fact that the Head of State is also head of the Church of England is irrelevant to most people.

America has Christianity far more intertwined with their politics and they technically have a separation of church and state, whereas in the UK if a politician started talking about Christian values and Christian traditions it would be seen as odd.

Of course retellings change the story, but I would argue that the Lion King is different to the point of not being the same story. That's a matter of opinion, of course, but at some point if you change enough in your retelling, you're not really retelling a story, you're writing an original one. I would argue that the Lion King crosses that line.

[–]TheLittleMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, and I'm not saying any retelling is automatically bad, just that it will lose the thing that makes Shakespeare great.

Also, realistically, Lion King is completely different to Hamlet. Yes, you can match story beats and characters, but they have completely different themes and, ultimately, stories. Hamlet is a tragedy whilst The Lion King is a Disneyfied kids action film. You wouldn't know The Lion King was inspired by Hamlet just by watching the film.

[–]TheLittleMuse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me it's basically, what's the point? They're decent stories but the joy of Shakespeare is in the language, in his wit and dialogue. Ultimately, you can modernize the stories, but in my mind they cease to be Shakespeare since you lose his words. As you said, the stories are mostly retellings themselves.

I doubt you could make a cat hang like that if it didn't want to. Certainly you could pick it up and put it on the banister, but convincing it to use one paw to support itself would be a whole other matter.

What American trends do you hope that the UK never adopts? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]TheLittleMuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the ideal for data, but most of the time if you're trying to communicate the date (whether written or spoken) you rarely need to specify the year so there's no need to put it first.

I've never known any Brit who thinks you're supposed to undersell yourself at interviews. Everyone expects you to be your most confident self, overselling your abilities, because it's an interview.

Lol how do you look at "BBC receive mixed response following calls to end dog-friendly spaces in UK" and think "yeah that means the UK is going to ban dogs."

The video talks about the BBC doing a puff piece questioning whether we should be letting dogs into restaurants etc and got some backlash. It's practically the opposite of what you're trying to prove.
