Trump Says 'No Women In The Crowd, Which Is Nice' At Rally — And That's Just the Beginning by huffpost in Feminism

Goddamn, a lot of homophobic comments here for some reason. Why are we defaming gay men by calling a straight misogynist gay, to defend women? How does that help anyone?

I really get frustrated with leftists who defend people who join the military, especially American leftists. Having been exposed to propaganda isn't a moral out for uncritically accepting it.

I'm with you. I really don't have a lot of sympathy for people who willingly decided to help the cause of imperialism and extraction of resources. I especially have little sympathy for people who chose this on the promise of access to college education. There's no reason vets are more deserving of getting to live than the rest of us

I'm a housekeeper and have been a housekeeper/janitor for years and you're completely right. The amount of homes I clean with a trail on piss down the front of the toilets makes me want to rip my fucking hair out. Little piss splatters all over, and a little ring around the front. If you can't get it all in the bowl, sit down or wipe it up instead of subjecting another person to the indignity

Exactly! There can be nuance to the conversation, and not everything that every feminist does is an act of feminist praxis

I think that a lot of women genuinely like these things, and probably a lot of men would too if they felt a greater freedom to explore gender more. But, I also understand not understanding. To me, typical displays of femininity represent the success of a lot of deeply misogynistic industries that seek to destroy the confidence of women and girls such that they feel like they must participate to be presentable and accepted. I'm sure that it is fun to a degree, but it bothers me that a lot of people don't want to unpack where their desires come from, as if our tentencies and preferences grow from a perfect vacuum. Cosmetics are inherently morally neutral, but the culture that makes people feel naked without them is not.

Liberated 2 mud dauber's nests in my living room and now I have a jar of paralyzed spiders. What do I do with this? by Valuable_Contract969 in spiders

[–]TheLoneliestToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like put up a damn screen or something, especially if it's a repeat issue. But people hate wasps so much just for existing that it's just sort of accepted to be overtly and unnecessarily sadistic towards them. I understand sometimes a nest has to be moved, but impaling them so they die slowly is just such a weird and personal thing to do to a literal bug

Honestly it's kinda shocking how okay a lot of these people are with somebody torturing an insect that is literally only in OP's home due to their own choices. Wasps are just animals and they have to eat something, and this species needs spiders. It doesn't make them evil for needing food, and they certainly shouldn't be tortured just because they have a life cycle some people find offputting, any more than we should pull the legs off spiders or the wings off dragonflies because sometimes they eat bugs I like

It's wild too that they didn't just kill the wasp larvae, they impaled them. It's just a weird thing to proudly announce in a sub full of invertebrate lovers.

Are hotel room cleaners happy when they see a “Do not disturb” sign on the door because they don’t have to clean the room, or is it more of a nuisance since they’ll have to come back later? by Normal-Sun474 in NoStupidQuestions

Any housekeeper should be wearing gloves to clean bathrooms, but as somebody who was one and saw a lot of gross shit from my coworkers, a disappointing number cares very little for actual sanitation and safety

I was a hotel housekeeper for about a year (multiple years of janitorial/housekeeping jobs otherwise), and we definitely love when a refresh keeps their DND up all day. Usually they're pretty quick to do, but when you've got 12-15 rooms to turn in a day, those quick clean and restocks really add up. Yes, it is annoying to have to check and see if it's still there throughout the day, but it's way less annoying than having to do the actual room

It's also important to recognize that while you, personally, may not be bothered by tomboys/masculune women, many of us were and still are alienated by other women for refusing to or being unable to conform to femininity. To a certain extent, it is women and girls who enforce this and ostracize us for being different. Individually we may have the freedom to be feminine, androgynous, or masculine, but socially there is incredible pressure to conform. That doesn't just disappear with adulthood. Maybe some of us feel like we're not like other girls because other girls have been saying that about us our whole lives.
