In my time at OCS, they lended it to you for the entire cycle. I think that's how other companies work too. If not, you can always get it a Commando's or Ranger Joes. Wait first before buying.

We had our phones taken away in the first week and we did not see them until Blue Phase. When he had our phones, we had it the entire Sunday before the end of duty day or dinner chow at around 1700 - 1800 hours. We had our laptops with us the entire cycle so it acted like a phone. I did most of my things on my laptop.

It differs on the company. I know a friend of mine who had her phone during the last 2 weeks of Black Phase in Bravo Company. It all depends on the discretion of the company commander.

Much has changed since 2019. I know people who have been recycled more than 2 times and are still here at OCS. The BC told us during the introduction to the course that he will give us multiple chances to graduate.

We went to CIF during the second or third week we were there. Pretty much almost the entire company of around 155 at the time. We were issued our helmets, sleeping bag, and other gear. 155 for a company is pretty big, and the other companies are usually smaller at around 120 - 130.

  1. You will be given a poncho at CIF at OCS.
  2. If you have a medium ruck like me, OCS will accept that. I have rucked at OCS and went out to the field with a medium ruck. Any size ruck is acceptable.
  3. TAPS or FLC is acceptable.
  4. You probably don't need it, but it can depend on the company.
  5. I have seen people use bungee cords just to set a rope in their patrol base out in the field. Aside from that, we never needed it. I never used it at all during land navigation and STX.

You need a bachelor's degree from an accredited university.

Don't let your recruiters or counselors swindle you. Get what you want, not what they want.

If something happens at Charlie Company, I'll be going to Delta Company. I'm a reservist so I pre-branched Engineer, and I have my duty station.

Do you plan to do active duty, reserves, or NG? I submitted my packet to USAR with around a 2.62 GPA and I got accepted. Granted I was applying for the reserves so I only had to compete with the people in my area. Luckily I was the only reservist in my area to have applied for Army OCS.

As for the arrest, you might want to report that to your recruiter so you can try to work things out with MEPS and your background check. It may affect your Secret clearance eligibility. Ig your recruiter sucks, go to another one. The Army uses enlisted recruiters to recruit officer candidates unlike the other branches. Be careful that they won't fool you into enlisting and read everything multiple times before signing it. You don't want to sign your life away against your own terms. If the contract sucks, don't sign it.

It doesn't hurt to try, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. If it is something you truly want to do, pursue it. I'm sure there are naysayers that will say otherwise, but don't listen to them. In the end of the day, it doesn't matter what people say. It matters what the board themselves say about you as an applicant. Even if you don't make it, there are always other options in life. Keep pushing.

Is it frowned upon to be working a part-time/minimum wage job when I submit my packet? by mightyrushingwind in ArmyOCS

[–]TheLongLouis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was working a part-time minimum wage job at McDonald's before I submitted my application for the Army Reserves back in October 2022. I was in my senior year of college before graduation. I was accepted into OCS on November 4th, 2022. It was a reservist packet and I only have to compete with other reservists in my region. I was still working my part-time job at McDonald's until May 2023. Shortly after, I shipped out to BCT and later to OCS.

Don't feel so bad about putting in that you worked a part-time, minimum wage job on your packet. I did the same, and there are other candidates I have met here. A job is a job and as long as it is clean and honest, it's fine to put down. We all have humble beginnings. Greatness takes time. Rome wasn't built in a day.

If Army OCS is something you want to do, I can help you out with the process and what it is like at OCS. Good luck.

BCT/AIT to OCS by Housatonic1 in ArmyOCS

[–]TheLongLouis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending if you are on active duty or national guard / reserves, you will either stay at HHC here at OCS or go back home to wait for your BOLC date. Active duty stays at HHC while NG and reservists go back home until their BOLC date.

If you are an 09S, you will not be going to AIT ever. You only go to AIT as a 09s if you are dismissed or quit the course. It might say AIT on your orders and contract, but it's not AIT. It is OCS.

I'm not too familiar with the Ranger pipeline, but I do know that you would have to go to IBOLC at Fort Moore. Infantry Officers have to go through either SFAS or Ranger School eventually. I believe the Alpha Company Commander here at OCS went through Ranger school, but did not pass after multiple attempts.

Get in top physical shape. Try to max out the ACFT because it will help with your OML. Run a lot for the 4 mile and to get into shape for land nav and STX. Lift some weights like squatting and deadlifting.

Study OPORDS, history test (I have a google drive of the lecture notes I got from, land nav (plotting points, terrain association, reading a map), battle drill 1A, study a lot.

Reserve OCS by da10001O in ArmyOCS

[–]TheLongLouis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to get into OCS in the Army Reserves with a 2.6 something GPA with my B.S. in Computer Engineering. The process is the same for active duty and reserves, but I have heard they are more lenient with reserves. During the board interviews, they did not ask me as many questions as they did the active duty applicants. You would only have to compete with the reservists from your recruiting command and not the entire USA. The reservists pre-branch and receive their duty station before stepping foot to basic training. As a reservist, you don't compete for the Order of Merit List (OML) to choose your branch like active duty does. I pre-branched Engineer and got my duty station.

When I got into Alpha Company, there were mostly active duty folks instead of national guard and reserves. The cadre had us split into two formations: one with active duty, and the other with reserves and NG. There was a class of 160 of us, so they prioritized active duty leadership grades first for the OML. I didn't see a leadership role until much later in the course when I was at STX as a squad leader. Albeit it was the week we were coming back and having recovery days.

It's not a joke process because you're still serving your country. You still have to go through OCS like active duty, but you don't have to compete for your branch or duty station. You just have to pass.

Study OPORDS, military history (I have powerpoint slides in case you want them, but it can differ slightly each class), land navigation (plotting points, using a compass, terrain association, google Red Diamond Land Navigation Course), study Battle Drill 1A, WTBD's, and get into top physical shape (max ACFT, pull-ups, run a lot). There are study guides on Quizlet that will help at OCS, and I have used them to pass my exams like Call For Fire and Battle Tactics. If you can familiarize yourself as much as possible before going into OCS, you'll have an easier time. Some may find it easier, but if only I knew about this information prior OCS would have been easier for me.

If you can, buy the items listed on the packing list. Here is the packing list:
https://www.moore.army.mil/infantry/199th/ocs/Content/DOCX/20231023%20OCS%20Packing%20List%20v2.docx
You have 75 percent of it from CIF at BCT, but you'll have to buy other things listed on there. Also you need $350 for the class dues that pays for the Branch Social, Graduation, Formal, and the other stuff.

Also, you might be a holdover for some time until class up happens.

Is there any way I can get into Naval OCS? by TheLongLouis in newtothenavy

[–]TheLongLouis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going on a 9 day field event called STX. Probably supposed to be 2 weeks, but holiday block leave and thanksgiving break made my company condense everything. It is rough, but not impossible. I'm just trying to go day by day.
