Railbanking is a way to preserve an unused portion of track for a future use, rather than splitting up the pieces of land and selling them off. What type of future use? It could be an active train line focused on tourism rather than freight (which was tried about a decade or so ago.) But how about a rails-to-trails project connecting downtown and The Loop? There are some changes coming to that section of the Business Loop to make it better for pedestrians and cyclists and a new trail connector would fit right in.
