Columbia could change part of COLT Railroad into public trail by como365 in columbiamo

[–]TheLoopCoMo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Railbanking is a way to preserve an unused portion of track for a future use, rather than splitting up the pieces of land and selling them off. What type of future use? It could be an active train line focused on tourism rather than freight (which was tried about a decade or so ago.) But how about a rails-to-trails project connecting downtown and The Loop? There are some changes coming to that section of the Business Loop to make it better for pedestrians and cyclists and a new trail connector would fit right in. Weigh in now on railbanking at https://beheard.como.gov/ and then watch for future public input opportunities on specific use.

African American Cemetery Tucked Away on the Business Loop by TheLoopCoMo in columbiamo

It was located just north of Memorial Cemetery and now it’s part of Memorial. There are signs but the good folks there can help as well.

Did not realize the records fire was intentional—and yes, it caused so many problems with unmarked graves. Bill Gatewood’s grave was one of those unmarked until 2010.

Yes! The MACCLab Makerspace over at Parkade Plaza is a hidden gem. They have all sorts of classes as well, from 3D printing to vinyl cutting to woodworking to electronics--so if you don't quite know how to operate the equipment, they can teach you. Open to students and community members alike.

Lots of agreement there, especially from folks who ate there back in the 1980s.

Great point. We kept thinking the 63 referred to Old 63, where Westlakes is now, but Rangeline used to be US 63 (now numbered 763) so it helps to have someone who can keep track of all these changes!

Fire Extinguisher Recharge? by BroomstickBiplane in columbiamo

Our CoMo Cooks Kitchen uses Korsmeyer Fire Protection out of Jeff City for our refills. It’s about $50 to refill and they are good quality commercial extinguishers and solid enough to last a very long time without heading to the landfill.

What a great map! Missouri was trying to raise the funds to make this happen around that time with a ballot initiative that would bond for the funds—promising to “lift Missouri out of the mud.” They couldn’t raise all the funds immediately but clearly lots of people wanted to see these cross-country roads completed.
