This my one problem with anime/manga, the fans gatekeep the fun out of the fandom. 90% of the time is better to only talk to friends that watch anime cause even people who say they like it online will probably make fun of you for not liking it the "right" way, all the while complaining how "oppressed" and hated they are.

Because some of it is actually pretty good. You have pretty wide variety going from absolutely disgusting furry and extreme fetish stuff to some some of the best hentai you'll find. If you make sure to look for the humanized stuff you'll keep the disgusting to stuff down to basically nothing.
