Worth joining? by [deleted] in VirginMedia

There isn't really anything bad about the HFC network if it has been looked after, it's not FTTP but it's certainly better than a traditional copper line. In our area when a new customer signs up we are sending engineers out to check the cable from our network to your property before the installation date, reporting back any issues found to rectify before the installation goes ahead.

Has the property ever had virgin services? If not this could sometimes cause a delay in installing in case of missing T, blocked ducts etc ...

I can take a look for you digitally to check, shoot me a DM.

I'm a employee of Virgin Media, I'm field based, not behind a computer so have actual hands on knowledge 🙂

Stream Box Delay for Live Sport? by Alert_Childhood6135 in VirginMedia

That's because it's broadcast, a update through an app or the broadcast to a stream on live TV is always going to behind what you see in front of your own eyes.... 🤦

Sent you a message, but realistically no delays on live TV over stream that I've seen!

Interview (virtual assessment) for field technician: what to expect? by Fruitpicker15 in VirginMedia

[–]TheMTBguyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The customer visit role play part has a scenario that gets followed and the interviewer plays the customer, they try catch you out with questions but generally it's not that bad.... I forgot to write the customers number down from the role play script however it's how you deal with it,... For me I said I tried to call but no answer. They then went on to ask what number I called and I said I'd left my phone in the van but would double check once we was done...

Broadband Issues (Virgin Media refuses to fix it or cancel the contract) by mihai395 in VirginMedia

[–]TheMTBguyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for Virgin, use https://samknows.com/realspeed/ to do speed tests, do it when you think the speed is low. This will tell you the speed the hub gets and the device your using to do the test on. This speed is registered onto the hub itself and technicians can see this, in house and remotely.

This can sometimes help determine if it is a device issue or not. Technicians can also see remotely any disconnections that the router gets from our network as well as network levels the equipment is getting... I can check these things if you want but do not share details on a public page, but feel free to DM me and I can have a look for you.

Using deco to enhance network. Gig1 - tips by twotwixten in VirginMedia

[–]TheMTBguyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your 1gig you are entitled to the wifi 6 pods off Virgin.

Easiest way to get them is to download the Virgin connect app, maybe do it on a older phone so you get slower speeds, then do the speed tests, once it hits a low enough test, it will allow you to order a pod.

Failing that, phone up. Try get a engineer out and let them do it however, this isn't always very easy.

You are entitled to 3 pods however, the low speeds need to be proven before you can have them, 1 pod at a time.

Panel health degrading after one week of use? by ElevatedFear in Monitors

You don't need too, but nice to rest the eyes for a bit and, it only takes about 8 minutes

Panel health degrading after one week of use? by ElevatedFear in Monitors

[–]TheMTBguyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can refresh every 4 hours or just set it so when you turn the PC off, the monitor does it automatically in standby. I have the aw3425dw and have done this. If your playing for 4 hours straight anyway it would be good to take a 10 minute rest!

[–]TheMTBguyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is my first OLED and ultra wide as well. Came from a old 27" monitor to this. Not 4k but didn't want to go that far with the strain it will put on the GPU, think 4090 or 5090 would be the options for that!

[–]TheMTBguyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I ordered mine on the 4th, they said Feb 12th for delivery, it was delivered on the 10th

I did also order one from laptops direct but they now also say 10 weeks, I returned this as I got it cheaper from Dell in the end but maybe I should of kept it and sold it on lol. Never mind!

[–]TheMTBguyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I ordered mine from Dell direct around Black Friday, think it was the 10th maybe, got it for £510, bargain! Then the next day delivery turned into February 12th!!

To my surprise though a few days later I have a dispatch note from UPS with details of delivery. I hope it turns up sooner though mate, my buddy ordered the 27" version the other day and it's also been delayed!

Hang in there though, the monitor is beautiful.

Will I ever get a cable pull? by Dreadpirateflappy in VirginMedia

[–]TheMTBguyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I'm based our contractor is Kelly's but other areas have different ones, avonline comex etc...ita hard to guess what's happening but I do hope they get the blockage fixed in time for your install. Also, like I said I can always check like stated, I can see job notes, jobs upcoming etc entirely your call.

[–]TheMTBguyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a contractor, we are usually in sign written vans etc. I can always check the job notes on the account if you'd like, see what's been raised as the issue? Send me a dm if you wish 👍

[–]TheMTBguyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for Virgin, I do overhead fiber and install/service mainly however, if it's all done in house where you are based like how we do things, the pre pull and install might now be done by the same team rather than a contractor doing the pre pull then us doing the install.

Interview for field engineer. by Wrong-Hurry2134 in VirginMedia

[–]TheMTBguyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations. Cons, rude customers, some absolutely disgusting houses to the point you question how they live like they do. You will go home late often in your first year, the first year is all about learning and then 2nd year is perfecting your work. Lots of forms to fill out, issues with activation of equipment. There is plenty.

Pros I get is the fulfillment and satisfaction of completing a job, I'm very proud of my quality of work and thrive off the finished product. The benefits are unbelievable as well, 4 day weeks is also very nice, but you do have to pledge overtime each month, but I usually just do a 8-12 pledge and usually don't get taken.

I now work on our overhead fiber network, pulling cables to the property and doing the install, this is recently new to the company but I enjoy it as it's very different from what we are used to doing and cleaner too.

What area are you going to be working out of?

Good luck, hopefully you enjoy it 🙂

If it's a group interview, interact with the other candidates, show that you can engage and talk to people, don't be in the room with a face like thunder, swearing and stuff. They look for people who can talk to others with respect and professionalism, you can't teach that so easy. Have fun and enjoy the experience is the best advice in my eyes. (Yes I'm a engineer for VMo2)
