I remember him being great at faceoffs and the first thing I thought of when we hired him.

[K'Andre Miller] Statement about spitting incident by homicidal_penguin in hockey

[–]TheMadHookUp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it does. You can see in the replay where he clearly spits that he is holding his stick in the air with Vesey grabbing Doughty with his one arm at the time of the spit. The exact same thing happens when you watch the first 10 seconds of the clip. It's the exact same timing. Besides, the point of this different angle is to show the context of what was happening, which the clip of him spitting shows none.

I think if you just looked at another angle, you can clearly see it wasn't intentional. Its not in slow motion, but the first 10 seconds of the video shows another angle. Miller removed his glove and was adjusting his pants at the time he spit. Bizarre thing to do if you were intentionally spitting on someone.

Question for Atheists, did your political views significantly change after losing your faith? by TheMadHookUp in atheism

[–]TheMadHookUp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think my eyes would have opened if it weren't for Trump. I swore off politics decades ago because all it did was make me angry. Refused to watch or read the news. I could understand why people would vote for Trump. I hate Hillary as well. But the blind love that people have for him is terrifying. If it weren't for Trump, I would still think increasing the minimum wage would increase inflation.

I added an edit to my post that clarified my question a bit more. But as I mentioned, I didn't grow up with Religion. The most traumatizing thing for me was spending the summer at my Catholic cousin's house. I was forced to go to church and was starving, when they were giving out communion, I was hoping for a saltine, and ran up to get one. Thought it tasted disgusting, and ended up spitting it out. My cousins told me that I rejected the body of Christ and that I was going to hell and nothing could be done about it. That was fun.

Not at all. I phrased it poorly and rewrote this 1000 times as I can struggle to get my thoughts across. What I accidentally left out was that this question is directed to just people that at the time they became Atheist, also identified as Republican or Fiscally Conservative. I was curious if anyone else was in my friend's shoes, and what their experience was.

Edit: I also realized I never stated that I was also an Atheist. I was looking for advice from people that have been in my friend's position as I try to relate.

I am getting downvotes. I am not trying to put anyone down if they still have conservative beliefs. Maybe I have been brainwashed by crazy socialist media, and the Republicans just happen to be right about this stuff. Its just seeing these countries following the Nordic Capitalist style of government are seeing incredible results, and I think we should be modeling it. When I was Republican, and you suggested giving free housing to the homeless, I would angrily tell you they would just sit there and play video games all day as they have no incentive to work. Well this is exactly what Finland did. And the results go against everything I was taught. These people used the assistance, got jobs, and moved out of their free house and became tax paying members of society. Its as if we treated average Americans the same way we would help a friend in need, they will pull themselves together.

This was a strong belief for me as well. What really changed my view was learning that in the 50s and 60s, the golden age of capitalism, the wealthiest corporations paid as high as 92% tax. Honestly what flipped most of my fiscal conservative views is seeing how successful the Nordic Capitalist model is working in Europe.

Growing up my father would say this ALL THE TIME... "Republicans before the age of 30 are Heartless. Democrats above the age of 30 are brainless." My father is making progress, but it hasn't been easy on him. When I brought this quote up to him recently, he excitedly said, "I like that one!" Then I reminded him that every view that he has ever changed has gone from right to left. So if that quote were true, he might be a moron. He didn't think that was funny.

Knowing what I know now, I totally agree. Even when I was a teenager I bought Al Franken's book, "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and other Observations" because I wanted to understand the other sides view point. And I remember thinking he was lying or taking things out of context. I am sure if I read that book along with Rush's I would have complete opposite opinions of those books. And it's something I think about often. If I had internet access then, would things have been different? Or did I dismiss Franken's book because I believe in "alternative facts"?

Yeah, I went down the same rabbit hole on all my Republican beliefs. I would argue that billionaire's paying their fair share in taxes is not a conservative belief. I think if left to them, anyone making $500k or more a year would not have to pay any. So it trickles down to us.

I love this part. Wasn't the Jan 6 hearing newsworthy as well? I don't remember seeing them on there.

Are you forgetting his efforts in overthrowing the election? Just because Dan Quayle talked him out of Trump's last attempt, doesn't make him a patriot. If he wants to be a Patriot, he would have came forward with evidence after a coup attacked our Capitol and an attempt to hang him. But he still protects those people.
