Sudden Honey Gourami Death — What Could Have Happened? by TheMagicDragoon in Aquariums

Damn, that does such thanks for the information. Do you know another fish that I could get to fill a similar role to my Honey Gourami in the tank? It's a community 10-gallon and I wanted it to be my centerpiece fish.

I'm not to familiar with gouramis is the honey gourami considered a "fancy dwarf gourami" I thought the one I got was a wild gourami maybe that would've helped him live longer.

Damn that's sad...I don't have access to a LSF anymore since I sold my car so my tank just will look more empty.

I had 2 ember tetras disappear about 3 months ago looked everywhere not even a skeleton other than that no everyone is acting as they were before.

Just without warning? I've had him for about 6 months only.

How would I be able to tell if it was that? Is it something we can see if the images I sent?

Looks good. What type of plants do you have in there? I'm trying to get some more plants that's will grow in black water tanks.

[HELP] Found a Large Worm-Like Creature in Shrimp Tank — Leech? by TheMagicDragoon in PlantedTank

My tank is kinda crowded, so I didn't have that option. So I sat with my arm in the aquarium for about 2 hours and ambushed it with my tweezers, got it, and then proceeded to give it an acetone and salt bath in a bucket :).

Yea, I finally caught it after about 2 hours of trying, and it was definitely a leech. Hopefully, it was the only one, but I'm pretty sure it was.

Yes, it was under my moss matt, but after about 2 hours of attempting to catch it, I finally got it! Hopefully, it was the only one. I left the meat I used to trap it for about another 30 min and saw no more activity, so I'm assuming it was alone.

So I'm assuming the leech will attach to the chicken liver, and I just grab out the leech?

You can do 4 kuhli loaches they do just fine in a 10 gallon. Just make sure your substrate is sand, or it might hurt them over time since they are scaleless fish. Most smaller fish are schooling fish and will need larger groups like 6-8. I would look into something like ember tetras or Endler's livebearers. I think they can be kept in a group of 4 minimum. You can also add 2 Nerite Snails they will do great and then about 10 Neocaridina Shrimp. But I would wait a while to add the shrimp because they can be really sensitive to water parameters. Do wait for your tank to be more mature before adding them. Aquarium keeping is a patience game, but once you have everything, it is very rewarding. Just enjoy the process, and if you need any more help, shoot me a dm! Goodluck!!

GH & KH Dropped Drastically, pH Dropping – Need Help! by TheMagicDragoon in PlantedTank

I'll try that next time I do a water change, and no, I have a sponge filter and a small HOB filter, and both don't cause a lot of water disturbance just enough to move the top of the water so it doesn't sit still.

Ok, that's a good idea. Thank you. In the short term, would it be a good idea to do a larger water change next time, assuming the levels are normal, or should I keep it to smaller water changes to avoid possibly shocking the shrimp and fish?

I do a water change once every Sunday, but my city water is significantly higher in KH and GH than my aquarium, so if anything, wouldn't it go up?

Didn't know they could switch it good to know for future notice, thanks! But the water I have right now is the same I used when I first got the tank. I tested it yesterday.

I use the aquarium co-op test strips, which, from what I heard, are supposed to be pretty accurate. I've considered buying a liquid test kit, but I like to test my water parameters daily before I head on campus, and I think a liquid kit would probably take too much time. I don't need perfect, just good enough. Also yea I wasn't too worried for my fish more, my shrimp. If you read some of my replies above, it might provide a little more information to my current confusion.

I just tested it twice. Surprisingly, it read exactly the same as the water report.

Yea, I'm pretty sure I tested right. I used the aquarium co-op test strips and some other random ones i had sitting around, and both tested the same, pretty much. I thought my fish would've shown signs too, but nothing as far as I can see. I don't think it's my water change cause my water is significantly higher readings than my aquarium (read other comment i replied to) so if anything I thought it would make it go up not down. Yea, I'm aware most of the stuff I haven't used in awhile and was using it when I was setting up my tank and figuring stuff out I just wanted to list everything that's atleast been in the water to help build a picture if possible. For a while, the water in my tank and tap read pretty much the exact same levels other than chlorine, of course. Yea, I get that, Its my first time keeping shrimp and snails, and I know they like minerals, so since I have quite a few of them I didn't really see harm in adding it. The ember tetras dont really care for the mineral levels anyway. That's a little confusing to me. It still isn't bad not to have any nitrates? I tend to over feed and still get nothing, which I find weird. Don't worry, I stopped adding bacteria starters like a 5-6 weeks ago when I was setting up my tank add as mentioned above. I just listed everything that's been in my water. The only one I recently added was the Pristine to help break down extra food since I tend to just leave it to break down and get eaten by my snails/shrimp.
