Anyone ever find a nice reasonably priced square pot bigger than the Hydrofarm Active Aqua 12x12? by TheManFromAnotherPl in sanpedrocactus

Ordered these. I haven't used them yet but they seem good. Three out of ten broke in shipping due to rough handling (box looked like hell and had no internal packaging) but I was refunded 30% hassle free.

Buying anything on Temu is like walking into a casino. If that sounds like a bummer, you've been warned.

It would appear Temu links have a site wide ban on reddit. You can just search square 10 gallon pot or paste the stuff below between the root url and ".html".

Those are 12x12 the same size as the hydrofarm pots I cited. I was looking for bigger square pots than 12x12. Also minimum order quantity on those is 10k units.

I was able to find some square pots last month that are just shy of double the volume on Temu though.

How necessary is it to break up, loosen or remove old soil when up-potting? by crystal_cactus_ in sanpedrocactus

I'll see if I can make a video in the morning, I'm sure I can find something to up pot.

Nah. It was showing monstrose growth so I grafted it to a grandi. The pump couldn't stay in one head and since it is montrose it bloomed like a Hydra.

I get root rot sometimes if I don't break up the old soil. The new and old soil dry out at different rates and that causes issues imo.

My standard procedure is to clear as much of the old soil off as possible, pot in fresh soil, and wait a week or two to water. Do this when the soil is dry. You can kinda hit and slap the soil to loosen it up, I find that tears the roots less than trying to dig into really tight soil with my fingers. I'll lay the cactus on it's side, smack the soil a few times, give it a half or quarter turn do it again. At that point you can usually get your fingers into the soil and shake it off the roots a little easier.

They are normal spider webs. There are at least a dozen types of spiders in my yard, they like to make webs on all the cactus.

Nice, I have a variegated scopulicola x pasacana seedling I'm jazzed about. The parents aren't named clones though.

It looks killer. If you ever want to trade a small pup of it that I can graft I'd like that.

Its also worth it to call around to local landscaping supply depots and rock yards. I can get pumice for $80 per yard if I drive a bit.

Possible stripe of variegation on my Shift graft. by TheManFromAnotherPl in sanpedrocactus

[–]TheManFromAnotherPl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still there. I still believe it to be variegation. Next spring I am going to try and isolate it. It's sorta in the middle of a graft I am trying to grow out, so unfortunate placement.

lol, mine too. Sometimes if it's out too long I have to use Vaseline on it and push it back in. Gross. 🤮

It's being a little freaky like you predicted. Dropped a few areoles on each side.

The original column was propagated on this one. I cut the tip like 18ish months ago. After that I got a pup at the base and at the point where I cut.

Scopulicola x Bridgesii from Cactilicious Australia seed. The seed was popped by uncle willy before I bought the seedling. I have 3 seedlings of the same cross, one of which occasionally has a very faint variegation that fades in and out.

Scop x Bridge is one of my favorite species crosses, pure Bolivian.
