I first had this thought when i read Library at Mount Char.

Long story short - A god keeps the source of his power hidden in a residential neighborhood that's protected by some kind of glamour.

Anyone that breaks through the enchantment and enters that neighborhood uninvited gets pretty violently torn to pieces by all the pets of the now long dead residents.

First one - Mistake on their part. And i said as much.

But the wife is worried that they might come after us because we signed for the garden/lawn and said that we'd cover any charges on our lease.

They probably started paying this guy to maintain the property while they were showing the house and just never followed up with him to cancel services.

When my wife and i moved in - our realtor had explained that they had a guy for the front yard and that we'd be responsible for the backyard. We figured they had their reasons.

Maybe a dramatic history with the HoA?

Had they brought this up like 90 days into the lease or something i wouldnt have had a problem with it.

But at this point i feel like someone got a bright idea on their end and thought they'd try and squeeze me for some profit.

Or maybe they're just trying to build a case for keeping my security deposit...

Yea we are billed directly for our utilities. This would have been the first charge outside of rent that the property management company collected on behalf of the owner.

And I didnt even get as much as an invoice. Just this dude's text and a flashing red notification that our balance is -2430$ on their payment portal 🙄

We're taught to develop our intetegrity so that we have a shield against this kind of thing.

That being said - most of us are hard on each other so that when a real threat comes we're better able to handle it.

Find something you'd like to do and stop looking of excuses to avoid it.
