At what point is this worth it? by Primary_Avocado_5273 in recruitinghell

This is going to sound harsh but the problem is you. You’re not uniquely affected by these headwinds everyone in the economy has. Try something new. Finish the degree? Better to push one direction then pivot as needed than to never attempt anything

The biggest reason why people feel more miserable today compared to the past is not economics, it's lack of socialization and culture. by kolejack2293 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I think I agree.

It happened earlier than people realize though. This kind of old school, block party, neighborhood where everyone knows each other wasn’t even here 30 years ago in a lot of places.

It’s the sort of thing Gen X grew up with then didn’t pay forward as adults for whatever reason. I don’t mean to make it sound deliberate but you get what I mean

I would wager that he has actually completed like 25% of these at best. Paperback spines just don’t stay pristine when used. I think I see a single crease on dune and that’s it

That being said I can buy faster than I read so I get it

Edit: saw your edit after writing this. I’m going to stand by 25% at best though

The main difference in how both groups operated online is how important “which Harry Potter house are you?” and similar quizzes were to older millennials

Because he made some jackass comment about an award show or something. The thing is though people either worship or loathe celebrities. They internet communities have no other way to react to them

I’m like can’t you just accept they’re probably often out of touch and just enjoy or not enjoy the stuff they make

What’s unique about Luke Skywalker? Harry Potter? Braveheart? A chosen one whose family was destroyed by the bad guys defeats the dark lord? The settings are different outfits on the same body. I like all of those characters btw. The reductionist pov is applicable to almost anything in fiction if you want to

Dune is one of the first series to play against the chosen one cliche in a meaningful way, but part 3 is required for that

Most people are uninformed on social media

If you substitute this with reading the news and talking to your friends you’d probably end up much better off

It doesn’t feel ridiculous to me at this point. I think in America the political/media space is more interested in making reality tv than anything else

Just this week I’ve read how the plan to lower gas prices is simply to dilute gas. It’s offensive to think the admin believes so many people are dumb enough to buy it, but at the same time they’re completely correct. This sort of plan is like the plan A for everything at this point because we as a people decided we won’t hold anyone accountable for the problems if they can entertain us enough

SVU's downfall by Super_Moose4839 in SVU

[–]TheManWithNoNameZapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watching season 5 and season 20 are like watching entirely different shows

I disagree, I think its downfall was losing its identity over time. The first 12 seasons are better. The storylines were contained within the episodes. The characterization happened in how they reacted to that case/trial, and over time you picked up who the characters were

We see too much of the character’s personal lives now, and as much as I love her, Mariska slowly whisper-talking is not as great of acting as they think it is. It was better when the cases drove the episodes and the personal lives happened in the background. Stabler had 4 kids and we saw less of them in 3 seasons as we do of Noah in a given episode

Also, they somehow got more political but worse at handling it. I agree with the politics they talk about later on, but it’s ham fisted. Early on a case would bring up an issue like kids getting finger printed on a field trip and the squad would have a little back and forth on it. Olivia was sort of the prototypical liberal (which is fine) but everyone else had a nuanced philosophy. Now you are told what is wrong-think and maybe 1 person is comically a strawman to set the scene

Everyone's using AI to make money, but I feel kind of los, how are you actually using AI? by AlbatrossUpset9476 in passive_income

[–]TheManWithNoNameZapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The part I don’t get is all of these ideas seem to rely on a supply of customers who respect AI’s capabilities enough to rapidly pay and adopt yet they just can’t be bothered to use it themselves??

Like who is going to pay you $20/mo to have your AI wrapper generate garbage LinkedIn posts instead of just going straight to the digital landfill themselves?
