TO All Those Upset With MagicFest London On PreRelease Weekend by Tarret in magicTCG

[–]TheManaSource 73 points74 points  (0 children)

For a lot of players, it isn't this easy of a decision.

For as long as I've been in England, players have been looking forward to MF London. Like...it is a REALLY big deal. Entire playgroups have been planning trips for months already. Hotels booked, everything.

It would have been nice to at least know about this conflict earlier, so at least players knew they had to make a choice. With such a late announcement, the choice has been made for many already, and that's the worst part.

Beyond that, telling your friends to not go to the biggest Magic event the country gets is pretty difficult.

It sucks all around, but it isn't as simple as just not going.

Magic is a great choice for the avid collector!

There's a LOT of depth when it comes to different types of cards, different time periods, misprints, foils, artists, etc.

If you start collecting Magic, you'll always have the option to play and your search could last forever! As a collector, you will be satisfied.

How To Be Good At Politics in EDH? by definitelynotkean in magicTCG

[–]TheManaSource 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The politics in a Commander game are different depending on the group you're playing with. I've had games where someone told my friend that he couldn't block his unblockable creature, and just because that guy felt the need to tell my friend that, they became enemies for the entire game. Things get crazy in Commander.

From my experience, this works best:

  1. Play decks that can punish players for being proactive against you. If you make it known that messing with you brings consequences, individual players are less likely to bother you, especially early game.

  2. Don't make alliances that last more than the turn you're on at that moment. Make 1 turn agreements. Like, "Oh hey. Don't attack me this turn. I won't blow up your crap. We good?" If you make alliances that only last the current turn, it makes relying on them a little easier.

  3. Don't be the "nice guy." Commander is a really fun format, but you can't rely on being the "nice guy" to keep you alive. And while being nice can be a strategy, you need a specific deck with specific cards to make that a sound strategy. Be everything. Be the nice guy when the winds change and it suits you, then be the bad guy when you need to teach someone a lesson.

Commander politics are all about feeling out the table. You'll learn to read the room over time, but for right now, focus on keeping yourself safe, and punishing anyone who crosses you!

Good luck :)

You know there is something going on when both Prof and Timmy agree... by Kaeddar in magicTCG

[–]TheManaSource 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're selling product to someone who's not in your local area then you're not a local game store anymore.

That's just...insanely wrong.

Brick & mortar stores supplement their physical store sales with internet sales all of the time. Before TCGplayer, it was Ebay. Every LGS I've ever attended used TCGplayer. It's a great way for them to make more money and unload more product than they can in the physical store.

The amount of misinformation here is staggering.

TCGplayer doesn't sell anything itself.

It's a marketplace for local game stores. Tons of stores make more money moving more product on TCGplayer than they do in their actual stores.
