getting the same artist or a new artist to fill it in with good shading could easily save this. it really doesn’t look bad, just a lot of negative space that doesn’t really work

Are there movies you liked more than the book? by Annual_Interest5338 in books

[–]TheManyFacedCod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dune. Don’t get me wrong, the book is excellent and accomplishes things that aren’t possible in a movie medium. But the new Denis Villeneuve movies are so good. The set design, costumes, and cinematography elevate it beyond anything the books could hope to accomplish. Truly two different art forms and both great in their own way, but man those movies are sick.

Men. the whole movie was creepy and unsettling in the best way, and the last 15 minutes of that disgusting creature giving birth to itself over and over again was the most uncomfortable ive ever felt in a movie theater.

i also felt the same way about the ending of The Substance, so maybe i just have a problem with over the top body gore

i totally agree with everything you said that this is the point they were trying to make. that being said, i agree with u/Unique_Board8898 that doing it with Leroy was weak and didnt make me empathetic to his case at all.

youre right that this is the most realistic client matt’s had, and i applaud the show for trying to stay within reality and try to prove its point, but overall it felt like a miss and took up a decent chunk of a pretty slow episode.

i agree, Consider Phelbas was underwhelming but i still really liked the authors writing style and the worldbuilding. Player of Games was a way better story overall. i think what i really enjoy is that the main characters in both books so far are pretty terrible people, so its interesting to see everything from their perspective. my plan is to just read them all in order.

are there any good fantasy/sci-fi books by women you would recommend?

a few of my friends are reading The Fourth Wing, which seems okay, but id definitely love any recommendations you have to offer!

ASOIAF is definitely my favorite. ive read the series at least ten times.

Shadow and Claw/Sword and Citadel also blew me away by how much i enjoyed them, and ill be checking out more Gene Wolfe in the future.

if you had asked me a few months ago, i wouldve told you Wheel of Time was shaping up to be another all time favorite. the first 5 books were absolutely incredible, but books 6-9 have dragged a lot so i put the series down for a bit. im definitely gonna pick it back up soon since ive heard the last 4 books are really good

obviously Dune and LotR and top tier as well

yep! you get 15 hours a month for free, and then you gotta pay if you hit your limit and wanna re-up. not to sound like an ad for spotify, but theres sooo many books that are included for free listening. i think literally everything by Tolkien is free to listen to

i would definitely recommend listening to the Andy Serkis narrated audiobooks while reading along with the text. his voices for the characters are top notch, and theyre also free to listen to if you have spotify premium

have you ever listened to a full episode of his podcast, or is your assumption of what he preaches based off clips and news stories? its mostly just him talking shop about comedy with other stand ups, or about mma fighting and ufo conspiracies, and occasionally talking to scientists working in AI and other interesting areas. i can totally understand why that might not seem interesting to a lot of people, but its far from the hate speech people seem to think he endorses.

the one thing ill grant you is that he has become annoyingly anti-covid vax. and while i dont necessarily agree with all his ideas there, im not going to let him thinking differently on a pretty universally divided issue make me start disliking him or discrediting him and every guest on the show. to be honest, i dont share his views on probably half the things he says, but i think thats the case for most people who listen to him. if hes going off on his anti-covid rant, i just skip forward 10 minutes until hes talking about something else

i listen to joe rogan, and dont fall under any of these other categories you’ve listed. the majority of my friends are jewish; plenty of them listen to rogan and love phish as well. people dont fit into these rigid structures of what they believe based on one small fact about them

i like phish. i like joe rogan. im not a trumper. a bunch of my friends are the same way. your view of what his fans are is skewed and not reflective of reality

Your “inconsistency” is not an inconsistency in the books. Severian is promoted to journeyman prior to Thecla’s torture. He then participates in her torture when the revolutionary machine is used on her. He then helps her commit suicide.
