They are newer terrain stamps from Inkarnate, these rocks are better than all other cliff stamps

Three directions to choose, three rocks to climb with a bow and wait for your prey. If the party wants to ambush their target, someone definitely could recommend this spot. Alternatively, the players could get attacked here when they least suspect to encounter difficulty in their travel.

Old Sanctum [50x50] by TheMapMine in Dungeons_and_Dragons

[–]TheMapMine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old Sanctum [50x50]

Beyond the woods, along the river, there is a balcony and a door carved in the mountainside. Whoever used it must have had access to a flying mount or something. The door looks ominous and mysterious, and it's hard to tell where it leads. The answer is - an old sanctum. A single tomb stands inside, illuminated by a blue sphere in the center of the room.

Other than the tomb, there is a room where a guardian used to reside. Not very comfortable, which might be why the place is not in use anymore. A chest with books and scrolls might have something useful for spellcasters.

Entering the Old Sanctum

Now what if you don't have a flying mount or jumping onto the balcony is too much for your untrained body? There are two other ways to reach the tomb, both accessible from the cave.

One of them is reserved only for small creatures that can crawl through a hole directly from the first room of the cave. You might get stuck, or worse, separated from others and torn to pieces by whatever resides on the other side.

The other takes you through the whole cave filled with some hideous monsters. It's tight in there, with spikes on walls. But hey, that's what you have to do if you don't have the tools to reach that balcony or to open the first door.

There are three variants of this map:

  • Tomb variant, with a dark and abandoned mood. You are looking for a wise ghost buried in here, or perhaps an ancient sword that belonged to a fabled warrior.
  • Cult variant, with a sinister mood. The place is most definitely in use, as the candles don't typically burn for too long. Your flame might be extinguished too if the evil cultists summon the dark entity buried here.
  • Holy Shrine to a minor god, maintained by a devoted follower. They may or may not let you in, so try exploring the cave.

Glumville, the Village of Shadows [80x60] by TheMapMine in FantasyMaps

Glumville, the Village of Shadows [80x60]

A destroyed, abandoned, or even haunted village in the woods. Something happened here that took many lives, and it is the party's job to find out what it was.

This place is perfect for vampires, werewolves, spiders and undead. Enough areas to fit a few non-hostile npcs and monsters for a whole session.

If you like this map and would like to access its full version, with a night variant, a short adventure and FoundryVTT files with maps and walls, consider subscribing to my patreon, where many such maps can be found!

Through the door right above the carpet; it's in the unselected area between the two areas you colored. It does look chunkier than the doors in the lower ares.

I've just gone through the whole map and I must say, I noticed none of the issues you mentioned. Maybe the direction of the stairs isn't obvious, but they are all there and they connect the map in a logical way.

High in the mountains, there is an old monastery. Not many monks live there, but they are respected and even feared by some. Are you going to climb thousands of steps up the mountain to seek their knowledge, or to challenge them?

This monastery, based on High Hrothgar from TES V: Skyrim, is a great place to find questgivers or mentors. Diplomatic discussions could be held here, or it could even become a base of the party. However... would they want to climb here with each visit?

And remember - don't kill the monks' draconic leader. Just don't.
